Never trust anyone who wears a bow tie or has two first names.

Tom Allen made a huge mistake when DeBoer took the Fresno St job. He promoted Nick Sheridan to OC and their offenses are getting progressively worse despite the talent level being solid.
Defense is still good. But offense is costing them games
September 19th, 2021 at 2:10 PM ^
Their offense looked good against a very solid Cincinnati team. Penix made a few bad decisions resulting in 3 picks. He's not quite back from his injury. Sheridan called a great game.
September 19th, 2021 at 2:30 PM ^
I didn't think it was a great game called by Sheridan. Indiana had several three and outs and their passing game is pretty vanilla. Obviously Penix' decision making is a problem. But I think it shows his lack of development as that was a problem as an underclassmen. Offense has been trending down since DeBoer left. And they haven't topped 400 yards of total offense in any of their three games this year. 7 turnovers in the two games against legit competition tells me its more than just a player problem.

Replacing assistants that leave is one of the biggest jobs coaches have. Finding top assistants and keeping eyes out for teams and how position groups play is a huge job for coaches.
Hard to believe how far back they are now from where they were last year. Their RB’s are not near as good as last few years! Offense had creativity at times with some excellent play calls. Just not sure Sheridan is ready to be the sole coordinator without an experienced guy next to him or at least as an analyst to guide him.

Penix made a few bad decisions resulting in 3 picks...
Oh yeah--that's my love life too.
September 19th, 2021 at 6:36 PM ^
OL seems to have BIG trouble giving Penix time to throw.
September 20th, 2021 at 8:40 AM ^
This is good, I remember some people wanting Sheridan last year when things were really dark around here.
September 19th, 2021 at 1:49 PM ^
Tom Allen is living proof that there are more hoses asses than horses.
September 19th, 2021 at 1:50 PM ^
What is it with Indiana and their crazy coaches - Bobby Knight, Tom Crean, & Tom Allen. May as well throw Lee Corso in for good measure. He lost his mind when Lawrence Reid "fumbled" the ball out of bounds in 1979.
September 19th, 2021 at 1:55 PM ^
Kevin Wilson got fired for something similar right?
September 19th, 2021 at 6:38 PM ^
I forgot about Kevin Wilson. He was a sour SOB.
September 19th, 2021 at 1:58 PM ^
Allen's whinging in his post game presser was not a good look. He said the lesson from having a player tossed for targeting that he shared with his team was that life is not fair, and then he went on to say that that play (and action by the refs) was the reason they lost.
September 19th, 2021 at 3:12 PM ^
What does Steve Wiltfong have to do with Tom Allen.
September 19th, 2021 at 2:05 PM ^
I don't think he is "all that" but what a crappy title
September 19th, 2021 at 5:45 PM ^
In fairness, it is also a crappy post.
September 19th, 2021 at 2:09 PM ^
It's Indiana, theyre not gonna be good every year just like Northwestern.
Also Cincinnati is a very good team and Fickell will eventually have a big job, despite so many on here who want to hang onto him being a 38 year old interm at OSU for one year that was missing a bunch of players.
September 19th, 2021 at 4:09 PM ^
Except that by the game all of the players that had been suspended were back on the team. Completely different team at the end then at the beginning. At least by player participation.
September 19th, 2021 at 4:36 PM ^
It was also known he was interim and lame duck. Not exactly the leverage you want to have to get your team all moving in one direction.
Plus, people grow as they mature. I know this isn't a popular opinion today, but it's very likely Fickel learned a lot from that one season of failure.
September 19th, 2021 at 2:11 PM ^
We still have to play them... How about we beat them first before jumping off the rail.
September 19th, 2021 at 2:12 PM ^
Did you think you were really doing something here?
September 19th, 2021 at 2:12 PM ^
Early season "upsets" of teams expected to be good this year because they were good in 2020 is showing me that last season was weirder than usual. Weird things that happened last year don't necessarily change the overall posture of a program.
Iowa and Kirk Ferentz have two big wins: first with Indiana, then with Matt Campbell and Iowa St. Both were unusually good last year, and both appear to be quickly back to their middling historical status. People thought Miami was back after 8-3 in 2020, and they just lost at home to MSU.
Meanwhile, Penn St and Michigan were pretty bad last year and after a few weeks are in the SP+ top 10. Whatever issues they had last year, seem to speak more to the difficulties of a pandemic season than issues with the programs in general.
September 19th, 2021 at 2:23 PM ^
Tim Allen.
September 19th, 2021 at 2:26 PM ^
He’s obviously a solid coach and got a few gift turnovers but gave more gift turnovers as well vs UC.
Allen as a coach, biggest job is hiring and replacing good assistant coaches with more good assistant coaches. He lost several after last season and the new ones haven’t stepped in at the same level. Maybe they will be fine as the season goes and next year but right now it’s a step down.
September 19th, 2021 at 2:29 PM ^
Is this supposed to be some sort of I TOLD YOU SO post? Odd one, if so.
September 19th, 2021 at 2:35 PM ^
It's obvious that the key ingredient to IU's success was Mike Hart. . .
September 19th, 2021 at 2:52 PM ^
Once again, this is the way I read this and what I expected.
"It's obvious that the key ingredient to IU's success was....you guessed it...
Frank Stallone."
Going through the stages here.
September 19th, 2021 at 4:39 PM ^
So what is your point?
What is there to expect other than what is true?
September 19th, 2021 at 2:36 PM ^
Here to downvote the horrible title. And overall shit OP.
September 19th, 2021 at 2:43 PM ^
Tom Allen is a jerk.
September 19th, 2021 at 2:44 PM ^
Maligning Tom Allen after IU had the lead through 3quarters agains a Top 10 team is just throwing stones in glass houses.
September 19th, 2021 at 2:52 PM ^
I hear that he lost his Hart…
September 19th, 2021 at 2:55 PM ^
Because he beat Michigan last year and lost to OSU by a TD.
September 19th, 2021 at 3:04 PM ^
Why are you hating on Tom Allen after a big M win?
You, sir, are a loser.
September 19th, 2021 at 3:09 PM ^
Spent a little time at The Wolverine and every thread is like this...it's awful.
Tom Allen, are you kidding? And then it's not even anything about Tom Allen? This is painfully bad.
September 19th, 2021 at 3:22 PM ^
Wait till the OP finds out Harbaugh hasn't been to a big ten championship game like Tom Allen either.
September 19th, 2021 at 3:24 PM ^
Isn't this what they call "Gaslighting"?
September 19th, 2021 at 3:27 PM ^
First, to the OP - I ask this politely as a moderator here:
What the fuck is the point of this post?
Second, Tom Allen can take a long walk off a short pier. He fields dirty teams, and there ends the conversation, IMHO.
September 19th, 2021 at 3:39 PM ^
I’d take him if Harbaugh can’t be OSU this year.
September 19th, 2021 at 4:12 PM ^
Personally, I don't want Harbaugh to be OSU this year. Or any year for that matter.
September 19th, 2021 at 4:29 PM ^
I’m kidding…would have to throw the bag at Fickel.
September 19th, 2021 at 4:10 PM ^
I thought this was going to be about Home Improvement.
September 19th, 2021 at 4:30 PM ^
More power!!
September 19th, 2021 at 4:32 PM ^
Awesome title, awesome post
September 19th, 2021 at 4:48 PM ^
Now that the man behind the man was Mike Hart, left their building, what becomes of Tom Allen? Indiana could be a 6 and 6 team this season.
September 19th, 2021 at 5:01 PM ^
What an odd victory lap
September 19th, 2021 at 5:22 PM ^
Man with a Penix problem.
September 19th, 2021 at 5:26 PM ^
I liked Tim Allen as the "The Tool Man."
But Tom Allen is just a Tool.
September 19th, 2021 at 6:16 PM ^
He is just “The Tool, man.”
September 19th, 2021 at 6:34 PM ^
Actually, I prefer Tim Allen's work as a major cocaine trafficker to his work as an actor.
