I hate everything about this.  Weber seems petty and needs to constantly prove that he did nothing wrong -- even though he did.

For Warde, this is just an unforced error. Nobody likes to have words put in your mouth, but how hard is it to say "Chris and I had a private conversation and I'm not going to comment on who said what to whom."

Can't they just make amends, stop talking in circles, and hang the banners so we can finally move on. The AD honors individuals that are actually questionable people (Yost, Bo, etc.) yet is endlessly petty with Chris.

I mean, I sort of doubted the Webber story when it came out because it seemed such a random interaction.  I think Webber was done wrong by the whole Ed Martin investigation in the sense that lots of people were breaking those rules, but he has also been pretty petulant and stand-offish about the whole situation over the years that I generally assume he's not telling the whole truth when he speaks about it.

Feels unnecessary to do this in the press. Who cares if you didn’t apologize to him. The Warde hate on this board is absolutely over the top and stupid but this isn’t a good way to handle the situation.

So, why isn't this good?

I'll always love the Fab Five and what they did for basketball and Michigan but "adult Chris Webber after Michigan" is a fucking cry baby.

I don't blame Warde for setting the record straight if Webber took what he said out of context.

I mean, I loved the Fab 5 back in the day (Jr. High).  I hope this drama ends some day, but it seems like it won't.

The endgame here is pretty simple.  Webber needs to stop being bitter and petty.

If he's putting words in Warde's mouth, he's still bitter and petty.

Thus, the drama continues on and on (and on and on and on and on and on .............)

My guess is that Warde was catching heat from higher ups / donors about his "apology" to Chris Webber and felt that he had to set the story straight. Otherwise this doesn't make a lot of sense and goes against the old Canham "Never turn a one day story in a two day story" concept.

Honestly, this reminds me a lot of the Lions and the Calvin Johnson situation. I understand that at the time, emotions are high and each side will be passionately defending their position.

But for fucks sake- it's been like 30 years since the Fab Five were on the court, and it's been a long time since Calvin played for the Lions.

Both sides in both situations need to step up and figure out any possible way to move forward so this stuff doesn't keep coming up. I understand there's some huge pride behind the Lions organization, but you guys could write off a million in your sleep. And Michigan needs to come together with Chris and figure out a way to make both sides happy.

Let's be fucking adults here- all this shit is so childish.

Silence is golden.

Both Warde Manuel and Chris Webber could use a lesson or two as to when to apply this particular "rule" to the situation at hand.

There was nothing at all "unfair" about the system Webber played under and it's hard to see exactly what he means by the claim that the AD didn't "protect" him.  Protect him from who and what?

Michigan should continue to take pride in actually imposing real sanctions upon itself when it came across one of its athletes taking the illegal bag.

I don't care about Chris Webber.  We've had a bunch of teams just as successful as the Fab Five and they managed to do it without criminal investigations and saddling the program with massive sanctions.  I don't give two shits how Chris Webber feels about this, or literally anything.

Not a clever response from Warde, once again. He doesn't have to outright repudiate Chris and alienate people. If he's trying to appease some contingent in the AD or U that's still got its knickers knotted about the Fab V. . . honestly. Compared to Schembechler tolerating Anderson, ten years banishment for Chris looks miles over the top at this stage. Are we remembering what kind of racist antagonism the Fab V aroused, including from alums? How much creepy corruption the NCAA has overlooked since? The fact that Kansas just keeps on playing? What these clowns need to do at this stage is close the book on this one. This ish has dragged on long enough.

Why does the University keep messing this up so bad.  It happened.  It's over.  We all suffered.  When does forgiveness happen and everyone hug and move on?  That M continues to take stands like this and Warde makes everyone look like an ass in the name of what - looking better, getting clarity on words? Even if it wasn't said he should know its okay to let it go, BUT no, M needs to stand on their sword and say it didn't happen thus keeping the bs story going forever.  Lay down your ego Michigan and let the past unite - GOOD LORD!  Makes no sense.  Michigan never learns.
