News flash he wasn’t worse
November 7th, 2020 at 1:54 PM ^
Likely he saw what this program really was and noped out
November 7th, 2020 at 1:56 PM ^
The biggest mystery of all is McCaffrey opting out. Dylan was a legit running threat, he must not have been able to make a completion in practice.
November 7th, 2020 at 2:12 PM ^
This team wanted no business playing this year and it was proven at the “protest” Plus the fact that shitty recruiting class is now upperclassmen
November 7th, 2020 at 2:44 PM ^
McCaffrey was good enough to supplant Patterson until he got concussed against Wisconsin. I don’t see how it could be a talent issue, feels like something else was going on between him and Harbaugh.
November 7th, 2020 at 3:57 PM ^
There has to be something else. McCaffrey is the clear #2 guy last season and probably would’ve seen action with the first team if he doesn’t get hurt. Then during a coronavirus summer with nobody practicing Milton takes over as the starter.
November 7th, 2020 at 9:38 PM ^
I have a friend who is very close to the McCaffrey family. What the McCaffreys say is that Harbaugh promised McCaffrey that he would be the starter after Patterson graduated. When that didn't happen, he felt betrayed and left. Similar to the way in which James Hudson transferred because another offensive lineman was put in instead of him, when Harbaugh promised Hudson that he'd be the next one in if someone was injured.
Basically, according to these sources, contrary to Harbaugh's constant rhetoric about a meritocracy, he does makes promises to players about playing time, and then doesn't keep his word.
November 8th, 2020 at 1:06 AM ^
So it actually sounds like it is a meritocracy. If he promises people that they will play and when they aren’t as good as someone else they don’t that’s a meritocracy. Probably is scared of kids transferring because they think they won’t play and promises shit and they end up transferring anyway.
November 7th, 2020 at 2:48 PM ^
I'm not sure you guys expected from a 1st year starter. Joe Burrow wasn't Joe Burrow until last year. Milton isn't the problem.
November 7th, 2020 at 3:07 PM ^
Good lord at that comparison. Michigan fans love to point to other teams on what they think will happen to Michigan.
November 7th, 2020 at 3:45 PM ^
The only thing that Joe Milton and Joe Burrow have in common is their first name. The comparison ends there.
November 7th, 2020 at 1:53 PM ^
Dylan, Nico, Ambry, and whoever else were smart to get out of this fucking disaster.
November 7th, 2020 at 1:59 PM ^
Would it still be a disaster had they stayed (and we weren't down 2 starting OL)?
November 7th, 2020 at 2:02 PM ^
We would still have an average QB and a coach that likes to play 3 yards and a cloud of dust.
November 7th, 2020 at 2:20 PM ^
Regardless of the coaching philosophy, it always goes better when you have better players.
November 7th, 2020 at 7:30 PM ^
The style of play isn't what ails Michigan and a better quality of player wouldn't help much either. Not when what ails Michigan is utter lack of discipline and player execution which wouldn't pass the laugh test for a high school JV team. Both are coaching problems and all coaching problems rot from the head down.
November 7th, 2020 at 2:14 PM ^
I've been saying this for years, and you've always been so optimistic. What's the deal??
November 7th, 2020 at 1:54 PM ^
I thought WOT is Harbaugh being the idiot he is, demoted him due to him getting sick a few days.
November 7th, 2020 at 1:54 PM ^
Milton can’t catch the ball too. WRs are getting out-fought for the ball and flat out dropping them.
November 7th, 2020 at 1:56 PM ^
Yeah, no kidding. Whats up with all the hype about All's hands? He drops like 75% of his paases.
November 7th, 2020 at 1:57 PM ^
But at least he doesn’t drop All of them...
someone make it stop please
November 7th, 2020 at 1:58 PM ^
That is the hype about All’s hands.
November 8th, 2020 at 9:54 AM ^
Well you can talk about his hands but actually he tries to catch with his chest.
November 7th, 2020 at 1:57 PM ^
Both of our TE also had key drops. It look hopeless at this point.
November 7th, 2020 at 1:55 PM ^
November 7th, 2020 at 1:59 PM ^
Easy. The program slappies knew there was next to nothing to sunshine-blow about this year so they decided to anoint Milton as the next Cam Newton. As usual, most people bought it - hook, line and sinker.
November 7th, 2020 at 1:55 PM ^
I don't know how much better Milton is over McCaffrey but I have my doubts over Milton's overall talent and potential.
Unless a miracle happens in the 2nd half...I know; I won't hold my breath.
November 7th, 2020 at 2:08 PM ^
Milton has great arm strenght, and quickness. These are two of the most over rated aspects of a quartbacks play. Geoff George got a lot of NFL hype for years and floated around the league for much longer than he should have because he could throw thow the ball a long way, but sucked.
November 7th, 2020 at 1:55 PM ^
He knew to
leave. Fuck these coaches.
November 7th, 2020 at 1:55 PM ^
Joe Milton being blamed for this team is like saying a leaky faucet caused the titanic to sink
November 7th, 2020 at 1:55 PM ^
I don’t know what you’re watching - Milton isn’t good by any means, but nobody is ever open and All can’t catch a cold. The line can’t block and we’re averaging 10 yards to go on 3rd. Tom Fucking Brady couldn’t do shit in this offense with our clown show coaching staff calling these plays
November 7th, 2020 at 1:56 PM ^
I don’t know why people are still so confident that he is flat out better than Milton.
These guys were both dealing with new receivers and no lines. Milton is bigger and less fragile. I can see how that alone would give him an advantage with the state of this roster.
November 7th, 2020 at 1:57 PM ^
Milton hasn't been that bad this game, our receiving corp stinks, at least half dozen drops
November 7th, 2020 at 1:57 PM ^
Iron sharpens iron. That’s why you anoint a starting QB in the off season. Isn’t it obvious?
November 7th, 2020 at 1:58 PM ^
My guess is the coaching staff put a lot of stock in Joe Milton putting in work in Michigan while DM was in Colorado. They probably named Milton the starter due to that and it rubbed him the wrong way. Just my guess.
November 7th, 2020 at 6:05 PM ^
I think that's exactly what happened. How is Milton the starting QB when they didn't have practices at all before this season? DMC was the clear cut #2 QB last year and got PT before got knocked out of the season with concussion. I don't buy Milton outplaying DMC. I think Harbaugh didn't like the fact that DMC went home to train with his family who are all pros. His dad is a HC at Northern Colorado and is a 15 year vet at Denver. His brother Christian is an All-Pro RB. His younger brother is a backup QB at Nebraska as a true freshman and was pushing Martinez for the starting spot.
November 7th, 2020 at 9:59 PM ^
Ding ding ding! Let’s alienate a guy and his family all of whom are pros, because he chose to workout with pros, instead of staying in MI and working out with a former and barely serviceable former UM QB who never sniffed the pros. “Michigan man” indeed.
UM after 97 has been a clown show of bureaucracy and stubborn legacy that has tanked the program and it may not be recoverable at this point.
November 7th, 2020 at 1:58 PM ^
I’m beginning to suspect he realized he wouldn’t be successful trying to lead this team with the current coaching philosophies.
November 7th, 2020 at 1:59 PM ^
OP, you are beginning to see the fruits of a culture/program problem that has slowly manifested. There's nothing to do other than clean house at this point. Until that happens, I would try and get used to this type of underachieving and/or head scratching questions that many of us have but have resigned ourselves to accepting it until major changes take place.
November 7th, 2020 at 1:59 PM ^
OR, McCaffrey had enough of this coaching staff and got out while he could.
Why on earth should we believe the bullshit coming from the program that Milton “beat out” McCaffrey??
November 7th, 2020 at 2:05 PM ^
Yep, it was clearly spin coming from the coaching staff.
November 7th, 2020 at 6:24 PM ^
I think this is a good observation. McCaffrey seems to be a smart kid with smart parents; perhaps he looked at the receiving corps he had, a new (bad) O-line, realized the D couldn't stop anybody from scoring, and was tired of the ineffective coaching and decided to get the hell out. As many others have noted, he could have remained on the team this year without penalty and still transferred.
We shouldn't be surprised he distanced himself from this dumpster fire.
November 7th, 2020 at 2:01 PM ^
I still believe Dylan is a better option than Milton at this point in time. This coaching staff needs to go.
November 7th, 2020 at 2:04 PM ^
The coaching staff started talking up Milton about 2 weeks before McCaffrey left. They clearly knew that he was on his way out and were doing preemptive damage control.
November 7th, 2020 at 2:12 PM ^
Thank you for a well thought out reply, your timeline works out an was something I had not thought about.
November 7th, 2020 at 2:07 PM ^
How did Vincent Gray beat out any other cb?
Im guessing more behind the scene stuff than actual play.
November 7th, 2020 at 2:10 PM ^
He's LUCKY he hs not had 2 INT's
November 7th, 2020 at 2:16 PM ^
These post suck. Milton is not the problem. Not even close.
November 7th, 2020 at 2:49 PM ^
READ the post dufess, that was not the question!
November 7th, 2020 at 2:17 PM ^
I like Dylan but think we could use Benjamin ST Juste a bit right now.
