I feel like they have been doing exactly that. Unfortunately, it can be tough for regular transfers to get through admissions too. Seems like it's been close to 50-50 for players they've chosen to pursue and surely there were some they knew it wasn't worth trying to get in.

I don't really care if they were former big time recruits if they're grad transfers.

He was a Pro Football Focus 1st team All American last year however it should be noted he posted his lowest graded game of the year by quite some margin against MSU, whose OL is not good. Will be interesting to see how his game translates against better competition but if anything his addition is good for depth.

He's worth it if only for depth. It's hard for me to point to one game and be too worried.

Even if he is like that for the entire year, we still get someone who can rotate in and at least be effective, if not stellar.

Per Evan Petzold

The 6-foot-2, 257-pound star defensive lineman made 65 tackles, 14 tackles for a loss, 8.5 sacks, four forced fumbles, four fumble recoveries and two touchdowns for the Chippewas in 2018. He was a member of the All-Mid-American Conference First Team defense.

Also hadn't heard that Deron Irving-Bey had been dismissed from CMU.

I love this pickup!  Terrific news!

On your way from Mt. Pleasant to Ann Arbor, as you make the turn from 127 S to 96 E - just ignore the stench.  Should clear up around when you are 5 miles past that Okemos exit...

Welcome Mike Danna.

A 3-3 stack with a tight viper could be really exciting wrinkle with Don Brown. Basically giving a 3-4 look but with an extra box safety, and probably more blitzing options. I doubt it would be a base defense, but it could be a really nice counter to spread heavy teams.

I expect it'll be unpopular on here due to the experience in the Rich Rod years, but TCU and Alabama have both had some incredibly successful results with it.

I think Michigan would have gone after Danna regardless of getting Karlaftis or Harrison. Karlaftis is a SDE/DT, while Harrison is too raw to play immediately (at least not significant minutes). Danna was a necessity for depth, especially with Vilain's injury history, and Paye spending time at DT.

Speaking of current DEs on the roster, I've heard Ojabo has put on weight to get to about 260 already and wants to put on another 10 pounds before the season starts. I know he's raw, but good to see him getting physically ready to play.

not sure you can call the #12 player in the country too raw to play and then pivot to Ojabo....and then if you assume Danna is here for depth, i think you can expect that high level of a recruit to give you rotation minutes.

I agree with your other point in saying one wouldn't preclude you from the other but it certainly made an addition like Danna much more necessary.

Actually you can. Harrison last weighed in at about ~240 lbs. which is no where near close to being a productive B1G DE. He would probably need another 30-40 pounds before seeing playing time. Ojabo on the other hand, has already put on serious playing weight is already 260, meaning he's big enough to maybe see time as a freshman when he's projected to be 270

This is great for the rotation. We are very thin at WDE players. Uche is more of a specialty pass rush specialist. Hopefully Villain can get heathy too

A depth guy that has played major college football for multiple years and has been quite productive? 100% a welcomed addition. I like this way more than plugging some true freshman in that has never played at the major college level before. Will he be a game changer? No, but you need guys to take up blockers and keep contain. Danna should be pretty good at that. Atleast I hope.

I'm very gun-shy with grad school transfers. Outside of Jake Rudock grad school transfers for Michigan haven't panned out to great. Most of the time they get a little overhyped and turn out to be average players, but Michigan can absolutely use the depth. So, I'm definitely excited about that.
