Dude, grilled Brussels Sprouts are the bomb. Seriously.

10/04/2018 - 2:29pm Absolutely this^^^^^

Absolutely this^^^^^

The teams mentioned above were, for the most part, pretty lousy in the 70's and 80's. Another poster mentioned that many of them probably would not rise to good MAC level competition today and that is totally spot on.

And.....I do miss the days of students being allowed to bring in coolers to the stadium. In the mid-80's they had outlawed kegs, but you could still bring in coolers, no questions asked. It was the best way to spend a Saturday afternoon.

09/21/2018 - 3:10pm Mostly due to heavy clay…

Mostly due to heavy clay soils and poor drainage. That hole is pretty deep and the field is actually pretty close to the water table. Made it nearly impossible to grow a good natural grass field that would stand up to 300 pound dudes.

09/21/2018 - 3:08pm Well, they installed…

Well, they installed FieldTurf in 2003, replacing the natural grass. And since there are people allowed into the stadium and the gates are open, I would guess this is pre-9/11. I think it was after 9/11 that they pretty much closed it off to visitors outside of events.

The upgraded scoreboards and additional rows of seating at the top were installed for the 1998 season. Based on these I would say these were taken between '99 and '01 (pre-9/11).

I also have a bunch of photos of Michigan Stadium from the time when it was pretty much open for anyone to come in and walk around. I miss those days.

08/22/2018 - 4:08pm As my wife has a large…

As my wife has a large collection of Longaberger baskets, +1 to you, sir.

Also, now that I know they are meeting at the "Longaberger Alumni House", she is going to have to burn all of her shit.

08/18/2018 - 5:05am You right, my friend…

You right, my friend. I love summer and I hate winter. Football, specifically Michigan football, gets me through it.

05/15/2018 - 3:32pm I bought a 2018 Jeep Compass in Dec that has this feature.....

I was not at all familiar with it. The first light I stopped when the engine stopped I was freaking out a bit. I then realized that was a "feature" of the vehicle. Sure, I can turn it off with the press of a button, but I HATE having do it every time I start the vehicle. Pain in the ass.

05/15/2018 - 3:23pm New pickup trucks in general....

Sure, they look fantastic and come more creature comforts than ever before. But, they have gotten away from being pickup trucks.

I had an '08 Silverado extended cab that I bought new. It was by far the best vehicle I ever owned. I had almost trouble with that truck and it drove fantastic. It has four doors, but not four full size doors. It still had the smaller extended cab doors. What was great about this feature is that the bed was 6' long, which provided me with ample space for what I needed.

In December, while I was waiting turn left, some dude in a Super Duty diesl rear ended me going 45mph. It totalled my truck. I was heartbroken. Yes, it had 179,000 miles on it, but that baby was good for at least another two or three years for me.

I started looking at replacement vehicles. I started with pickups because that is what I wanted. I about had a heart attack looking at the price tags. All were crew cabs with four doors and all came with 4 wheel drive (mine was 2 wheel, which served me just fine). Plus, because the rear doors were full size the length of the bed was only 5' instead of 6'. I asked about finding a 2 wheel drive and I was told that there are pretty much none of those available in MI any more and I might have to look south if that is what I wanted. It didn't matter because the price was too outrageous for me.

So, after doing a ton of looking and test driving, I settled on a Jeep Compass with the trail hawk package. In the few months that I have had it she has been a fine vehicle. It tackles a MI winter far better than my truck ever did. But, it isn't a pickup. I truly only need a pickup a few times a year, but there was something about driving one that I thoroughly enjoyed.

tl;dr: New pickups are too expensive and more car-like than truck-like to me.

04/30/2018 - 9:21pm Colorado game in 1994

The winning catch was right in front of me. We had a great team that year and that game ruined what should have been a great season.

04/15/2018 - 3:03pm This is the channel I watch every

Morning while on the treadmill. I saw this live. I can tell you it was not scripted. It was pretty funny.

02/02/2018 - 1:55pm I partook in the festivities when it was Dooley's....

As a freshman in the 80's it was the place to be on Thursday nights. Thursday night was half price pitcher night. I met up with this dude that was several years older than I was that happened to have graduated from my high school. He was there every Thursday night and became my regular buyer. I always drank beer at Dooley's on Thursday nights two pitchers at a time. It was grand.'s

02/01/2018 - 2:34pm The Hills Have Eyes

The original and the remake. The remake had me white knuckling my seat a few times.

12/24/2017 - 10:33pm Until my grandmother passed

Until my grandmother passed away 22 years ago it was Christmas Eve at her place. Best times of my life. Piles of presents, great food, and the company of my family. I do miss her and those Christmas Eves of the past.

12/22/2017 - 11:52am Surprised she has one.

Surprised she has one.

12/02/2017 - 6:49pm Holy shit

Have any of you negative Nancy’s watched any games today????? It is all about the QB and we have nothing proven. May the best man win.

11/04/2017 - 3:06pm I agree completely

I also enjoy him in the morning on XM College Sports.

10/31/2017 - 1:05pm "I felt".

Man, unfelt exactly the same way.

09/25/2017 - 3:47pm This 100%.

I have been to every night game at Michigan Stadium so far and when I arrived for the first UTL I was going by the noon reports. When I arrived just before noon the traffic was backed up for miles and the lots were already filling up..

People will arrive early and there is no way AAPD and Public Safety will allow hundreds (thousands?) of cars to back up traffic on the main roads for hours. They will open the lots before noon.

08/18/2017 - 10:39am I have to disagree about Penn State

I have been to UM/PSU games at State College on five different occasions and have had a great experience each time. My last game there was in 2015. State College is by far my favorite place for an away game.

I can also say I have never been to a UM/UW game in Madison, so I can't offer a comparison. However, I have heard from others that their fans are brutal to visitors.

08/11/2017 - 10:40am Born and raised in Muskegon

When I was a kid I would listen to WTRU endlessly with my Panasonic tape recorder next to the speaker in hopes of recording a groovy popular song.

I hadn't thought about WTRU in years until your comment. Thanks for that!

05/05/2017 - 2:38pm I am not an expert......

But if I had to guess, it is because, as a team, we are so young. And a lot of that youth is very talented. If we had a junior-heavy starting rotation the depth chart might look a little different and be more attractive to potential 2018 recruits. I think that is why 2019 looks to be so much more promising.

*Sorry. This was meant to be a reply to DCmissingAnnArbor above.

12/03/2016 - 7:04pm It is Alabama's world....

And we are just living in it. Give them the trophy. Geesh.

11/30/2016 - 12:55pm I tend to agree

But las year I think the four best teams were Alabama, Clemson, Oklahoma, and Ohio Stare. Stanford was good, but OSU was better. However, your point still stands.

Don't you mean #RAGRETS?

07/28/2016 - 5:00pm OK, here is my selfish problem with this change......

When January 2nd is a work day I am pretty much screwed out of watching the second playoff game. Getting up at 5am after watching a game that doesn't end until almost midnight is tough on this old man. When they are NYE I know I always have the next day off and I can freely eat, drink, and be merry while I watch the games.

This is also my problem with the championship game being on a Monday night. I mean, seriously. Can't we find a way to put that game on a weekend day??

Old man musings, I guess......

07/15/2016 - 12:20pm I was there with my wife and two of our friends.....

It had rained like hell they day or two before the game. I mean, torrential rain. Some of the roads leading from the hotel where we were staying to State College were closed due to flooding. The parking areas were a total mud hole.

The Lion fans were so damn cocky before that game. Once the ass kicking started the only sounds you could hear were the hitting on the field and the screaming from the few thousand Wolverine fans.

I have been to a lot of home and away games. I have seen some incredible finishes. But to this point, this is the best game I have ever seen in person. I still get chills thinking about it.

07/07/2016 - 2:32pm I was at that '94 game in South Bend.....

It was amazing.

My buddy and I actually met Lou Holtz before the game as he was walking to the stadium. He stopped for a minute or two and shook our hands and wished us luck. He is a little quirky, but he is a pretty good guy.

07/07/2016 - 12:53pm I tend to agree......

I think there are more announcements coming. I simply can't believe that Warde and his staff doesn't see the same schedules that we do. This makes little sense without flipping the MSU series back to being opposite of OSU. Perhaps this was the impetus to make that happen.

I hope that is the case. If not, we really got screwed. Hard to see the upside here.

07/06/2016 - 3:54pm My first Tigers game in person was in 1977.

I was 9 and we were at home playing the Royals. Fidrych wasn't pitching, but he was out in left field before the game during warm-ups. My dad got me a game program and when we saw him we joined the masses that went to the wall to try and get his autograph. He was very gracious and stayed there until he had signed autographs for everyone. He signed my game program.

Oh, and the Tigers won. It was an awesome day.

06/28/2016 - 2:11pm '97/'98 for me....

and it isn't close.

Football national title; Woodson wins the Heisman; Michigan beats Duke in basketball; Men's hockey wins the national title; Red Wings win their second straight Cup (of course, first in '97, second in '98).

And to top it off for me, I attended every single home football game and the epic win at Penn State. I also attended the regional hockey finals at Yost, which still ranks as the best sporting event I have ever attended in person.

Good times.........

05/07/2016 - 11:04pm Is this a trick question?

The correct answer is "no".

04/27/2016 - 12:20pm AC/DC

Back in Black. I bought it when it first came out. I still have it!

04/18/2016 - 6:58pm Thanks for the feedback, everyone.

Eye-opening and much appreciated!

04/18/2016 - 3:24pm Yeah...

That is definitely an area I am looking into for mapping something out.

04/18/2016 - 3:14pm Maybe.

I did it several years in a row before I took last year off because of running related injuries. This year I feel pretty good, but it will likely be a last minute decision for me.

04/18/2016 - 3:11pm I actually checked this first.

Unfortunately none of the routes I could find were actually downtown. Most require me to travel to get to other areas.

04/18/2016 - 3:11pm I knew that this.....

was the right community to ask for advice. Taking the subway to other locales is a good suggestion. Point taken about clothing colors, even if it was tongue in cheek!

I am sure there are treadmills at my hotel, but the coolest thing about going out of town is running in new locations. Plus, it is long and tedious doing 8-9 miles on a treadmill. I can do it, but it ain't fun.

Thanks for the tips and suggestions!

02/27/2016 - 7:54pm Pretty simple

Rum and Coke Zero.

02/24/2016 - 12:41pm Downton Abbey

Not sure why, but I am engrossed in that show.

12/18/2015 - 4:42pm I am partial to

"Happy spouse, happy house". This way the onus is on both to take each other's happiness into account.

While we are talking marital advice, I don't think couples truly understand how devasting financially a divorce can be. I am not suggesting that everyone should enter marriage with a pessimistic attitude, but everyone should understand that if the marriage eventually does not work out, the financial devastation can be insurmountable. I know first hand how tough it can be. My first marriage didn't work and it killed me financially. Luckily I quickly found my soul mate and we have been together for 20 years. But, the financial pain took many years to recover from. And even now, am I fully recovered? I lost years of being able to "plan for the future" because I had to settle marital debts.

Sure, divorce comes with all kinds of pain: custody issues, mutual friends, families, not to mention the pain of ending a relationship that you had expected to last forever. However, most of that gets better with time and, usually, doesn't have lingering effects. However, the financial devastation may never truly go away.

I know that there are pre-marriage counseling classes that some couples take, but I don't know that they ever touch on the financial hardships that can come with a divorce.

"We want prenup"  Of course, I don't necessarily mean that, but I think too many young couples go into something like marraige rather blindly. And since nearly 50% of all marriages end in divorce, the odds are pretty good that your young happy married life will likely come to an end at some point.

Who needs a drink?
