OT - What would you like to see at MGO?

Submitted by canzior on January 16th, 2019 at 1:53 PM

I was thinking about this topic midseason and it seemed a bit OT, so I shelved it until the season was over. Then BPONE assaulted me, but Michigan basketball is bringing me back out of the darkness. I saw a post about whether or not people would like more OSU content on the board.    There are a lot of Michigan sites out there, most just pumping out tidbits of semi-useful information constantly, but there are some things I find interesting.

I love the Opponent Watch, and I think it's "brevity" makes it great, but I would enjoy a longer version, maybe after every 4 weeks about the general direction of the teams, important injuries etc.

Maybe a story every so often during the season about teams other than Michigan. Not a human interest story about Georgia Football, but maybe a conference rundown or thoughts opinions on some of the top teams in the country, since that's where we all would like Michigan to be.

An occasional article about Wolverines that have gone pro is popular as well and I think 247 has a list of the NFL guys each week.

I also would enjoy an annual or semi-annual piece co-written by Brian and Ramzy at 11W. (Hate the sin, love the sinner and all that.)  He's a hilarious writer, one of the few on par with Brian and his sense of humor.

I also wouldn't oppose a non-sports related post.  Maybe a UV without sports or politics or religion? Ehh..maybe.

Any suggestions or things you'd love to see?

Taking some of your suggestions:

"a longer version [of opponent watch] maybe after every 4 weeks about the general direction of the teams, important injuries etc"

You kind of get that on the Opponent Watch and then in more detail during the previews before each game.  I personally don't care about Purdue's injury situation unless they are playing us.

"Maybe a story every so often during the season about teams other than Michigan. Not a human interest story about Georgia Football, but maybe a conference rundown or thoughts opinions on some of the top teams in the country"

I would not find that interesting, but that's just me.

"An occasional article about Wolverines that have gone pro"

I would love that.

"I also would enjoy an annual or semi-annual piece co-written by Brian and Ramzy at 11W. (Hate the sin, love the sinner and all that.)  He's a hilarious writer, one of the few on par with Brian and his sense of humor."

unlikely to happen, but maybe something during the OT season or right before the Game would be really cool.

"I also wouldn't oppose a non-sports related post."

Not really interested.  I like hearing Brian's thoughts on Michigan.  Not really interested in world events or other topics.  We all come here because we love michigan content.  Too hard to find other topics that would be universally interesting.

I feel like we already get content about the conference in the weekly podcasts that wrap up the UM game, as well as how the rest of conference fared, and the opponent watch columns.  More content would always be welcome, but let’s not forget about the bevy of content already available during the season.

I'd like to see:

A week of video submissions where readers express their fanhood through interpretive dance or bowling attire with top submissions receiving Brian autographs on items from Brian's weekly grocery consumption like a pizza box or hot pocket wrapper.

Any LSU Freak content, or the propagation of a UM Freak equivalent.

Drawing competitions to see who can make Larry Nassar, Chris Carter, John Engler or Zach Smith look more like a butt wart or hershey stripe.

More Knowledge content.

A new acronym like "OT" added to any posts involving recruits and their nonverbal verbals to facilitate avoiding the white noise and speculation, unless the scoops come via Counter Strike conversations in which case legit.

A documentary on the life, travels and twitter career of Wolverine Devotee with requisite parental guidance warnings.

I would like to see an autocorrect feature that turns "Ruddock" into "Rudock," "Issac" into "Isaac," "Warrrrrrinnnnnnnnner" into "Warinner," etc.

In-game or halftime analysis from Brian et al during big games. I would definitely fire up the net to see what they had to say at halftime of a UM-OSU or UM-MSU game. . .

I have a long list but it starts with BPONE f/k/a emo Brian somehow finding a way to find his former constructive but heartfelt love for Michigan football again. His attitude and perspective effects this site in every way and it’s having a negative impact on the blog.

I would like to see an objective, unbiased analysis of officiating following a game, or at least the major calls.

The incompetence of college officiating in football and basketball makes it a fascinating topic. Maybe I'll try to whip up a quick diary post after each game going forward...

"An occasional article about Wolverines that have gone pro is popular as well and I think 247 has a list of the NFL guys each week."

They should do this for non-revenue sports.  A board post about John Smith from the tennis team that just got promoted to Desk Jockey #2 at the bank would be heart warming.

In all seriousness, I don't follow hockey much outside of Michigan, so it would be awesome to have a recap of how the former Wolverines were doing in the NHL.

There was a series a few years ago where a former player, whose name I have forgotten, contacted former teammates and wrote stories about what they were doing now, the path taken, and some recollections of their time at Michigan.  It was some of the most interesting writing I have seen on this Blog. I would love to see it rejuvenated.

Maybe a sticker to the top of board that describes some of the abbreviations or acronyms used often. Or MGoBoard comment Hall of Fame. Some of the funniest/embarrassing ones can be archived and we can go and look at them and laugh.

I feel that if you listen to the podcasts you could have a better understanding of where Michigan fits into the rest of the conference and the country for that matter. Brian and Co. Do a great job on their podcasts! Love'm!

I would like to see more Diaries... there are good writers here.

If only there was time.  Really  Brian should make diaries worth hundreds or even a straight K of points.  I mean... points are meaningful to people here.  Post a diary (like Don's up there right now) it adds value.

I would also like more info about Ann Arbor and the University.  Football, Basketball and Hockey and ... sports... this is a very small part of my nostalgia and connection to Michigan.  MGo could do that.

One last idea... maybe an occasional series like... MGoBooks - where people could take down their latest reads.  MGoFlix for movies/TV.  MGoChix for sad bloggers who can no longer touch their banners.

Ok ... one more...

Where the hell is Night King and how come it is taking him so long to get to Winterfell?  That is one slow dragon.

I deeply appreciate this site as a place to come to for minute by minute updates of significant happenings in Michigan sports.

I am deeply exasperated by the delusionary partisans who get to come here and shout people down.

Knowledgeable people can disagree.

I do not have a solution.

There seems to be an emphasis on the theme of content. How about one practical thing? Make it even semi possible for iPhone/iPad users to post pics.
