Maybe we should take the same approach as MSU and OSU and actually put some fucking meaning into the OSU game throughout the year and season. This no game is more important than the next bores me. Sure, we beat Rutgers and all the MAC schools, but I’d like to see a victory against OSU like relatively soon...

I figure was because he was getting in on Michigan before they went to college playoff.. after they got blown out and no chance of playoffs, someone at Alabama really hit that point home, that we need to get through OSU first.  This f**king sucks.

Yeah....blame a kid for going somewhere where he’s guaranteed to win at least 1-2 national titles before he declares early and heads into the first round of the draft. Or he could come here, lose to OSU every year, and never even sniff the playoff.

I don’t blame him.

I don't follow recruiting that closely but will listen to the recruiting round-up with Sam occasionally.  After listening to Sam talk about Dax and why he committed in the first place this flip is shocking.  Fuck.

I agree, but all that altruistic stuff that parents and recruits say about why they made their decision doesn't mean much when the check clears. Money talks more than getting a better education, becoming a better man, and having a better connection with recruits (all his reasons for initially choosing Michigan)

Well that sucks. If we lose out on Harrison too, that would be a pretty disappointing end to the class. Things were going so well before that OSU game, fucking blows.

I know the real answer should be one game shouldn’t make or break a huge decision, or a college should only want those that are 100%, or education matters... but take any 18 yr old kid that has the pick of any college in the country, and the athletic skills to really make an impact and possibly move to the NFL, and it does make you wonder what else Michigan can do to get true game breaking talent at numerous levels going forward to compete. I’ll remain optimistic. And a bit sad.

I think as fans we have to look at the long game here. We're never going to be like Alabama or recruit like them. But we have to establish a consistent level of success where kids in middle school/early high school always see that Michigan is among the best programs in the country. That will increase the average talent on our team. After that we need to implement an exciting offense or have gamebreaking athletes that keep our team on the news. QBs want to go to Oklahoma and Bama to be the next Kyler Murray, Baker Mayfield, or Tua. I always go back to Clemson. They got blew out 70-33 to West Virginia in Dabo's 4th or 5th year. But the framework of success was there and once they got a game changing QB in Deshaun Watson, they become a perrenial powerhouse.

Exactly. To most teenagers, Michigan has been a fringe top 25 team most of their life. Lately they’ve been a top 10-15’ish team selling the promise of being more than that.

Getting your dicks punched in — yet again — by a perennial top 5 team makes that sales job pretty hard. If you’re a top recruit may as well go to the team that’s an annual CFP team. If Michigan ever gets to that point maybe they can real in guys like Dax and Najee.

Except it IS just one game. The Game. It's always that game. What are we, 2-16 this century and maybe just a handful of those 16 losses we actually had a chance to win.

Michigan will still get their share of top talent, but getting 5-stars every year is just unrealistic. One every couple of years is where we're at. Until we can prove that we can beat OSU and actually perform on the big stage. Reality is Michigan is just a very good program, not elite yet. But as several posters have said, look at Clemson.. Clemsoning was a joke for choking in big games. Now they're an elite program. Took Dabo a while to go from good to great to consistently great. I believe it was year 6 or 7 before he took home an ACC title. And I'd guess it's a bit easier to recruit at Clemson than it is at Michigan. Point is, this sucks but it's gonna be this way until we can beat OSU with some consistency. That ONE game is our entire season, every year.

Let's also consider where we were just 5 seasons ago, or even worse, 10 seasons ago. The RR/Hoke years are what most of these kids grew up with. Michigan is only remembered as an elite team by those of us who grew up in the 90's. But the fact is Harbaugh has turned things around, and three 10-win seasons in four years is great, for us given the last 18 years or so.

So yeah, it sucks to lose a kid like this and apparently we're not just a player or two from perennial playoff contention but we're a lot better off than we were. Hope is not lost, but fucking A, this does suck balls.
