This will be the thread for hot takes and snowflakes regarding the defense and defensive playcalling versus Ohio State.

I found this puzzling as well. Pretty clear by halftime that the DL wasn't getting home and as a result Haskins was picking us apart. Where were the blitzes?  Yeah maybe Haskins gashes us for a bunch of yards anyway, but at least you throw some chaos in there and maybe get a turnover.

Defense? Never heard of her. Michigan got what they deserved.

I knew Haskins would expose UM, he's Elite. What sucks is Michigan won't even make the rose bowl. This was a program defining loss. BPONE forever.

Haskins is good, but isn't that good.  He has great receivers and had all time to throw to them today.  He actually overthrew a lot of passes.  But he had way too many opportunities to throw and our coverage largely sucked.  I don't think he'll be that good of a pro QB actually.  We just made him look really good.

This scheme is a joy to watch when it works. But I am going to quit thinking we have the best defense in the country every year until it once holds Ohio State under 30 points. Of course, if we had done that today, we would have won....

Agree. You tell me this morning that we score 39 in a non overtime game and I assume we win 95% of the time. Especially if our drives eat clock, 39 would be nearly impossible to overcome.

Our DL was atrocious and it exposed our already weak LB/safety in coverage weakness even more. ZERO pressure. Superior slot WR athlete types also exacerbated the issue.

Part of it was no Solomon, maybe part of it was no hold calls called against OSU’s OL. But getting zero push on the interior gave Haskins all day, and that was deadly.

This game was exactly like the Indiana game, except the opponent had more talent on offense. I know the score is an anomaly, unlikely to happen every year, but it's very disheartening that we were gashed in the exact same way by the exact same plays two games in a row.

We play Ohio State next year, too. Do we make no changes and just hope this doesn't happen again, do the coaches wake up and make meaningful adjustments, or do we get a new assistant or two to reinvigorate the defense?

What was the deal with our dline??? ZERO pressure all day. Like.... none. Our coverage was good enough if we could have gotten to Haskins.... but they were stonewalled. All. Day.

This is the most surprising result since Brown’s arrival.

Peps offense is boring and predictable (and needs a fresh mind in the passing game), but the defense deserves the blame today.

I never want to hear "revenge tour" again as long as I live. There is no other game that matters at this school. If you can't beat OSU, who cares about the others?

I'm glad there's a bowl game because of the extra practices, but I have no interest in seeing it.

You can never have enough healthy defensive linemen. Can't play man-to-man against real receivers without pressure on the QB.

Let's face it, Don Brown is a one trick pony.  For most of his 3 years here he has had the benefit of lining up his players against sorry QBs.  In the games against good teams, the defense has never had a dominant performance, and often disappears completely.  Hell, couldn't even stop Iowa from marching down the field for a game winning FG in 2016.  He had one decent performance against OSU in 2016, but the defense faded late in the 4th Q and OT.  Other than that, nothing.  Remember how Florida State overwhelmed them in the 1st Q, and then when Michigan somehow took the lead late, his defense immediately folded.

No pass rush today.  Watson got exposed big-time.  Whole defense was too slow for OSU.  They ran simple plays and just chewed up Michigan.  Hudson was invisible.  Gary had another unremarkable performance.

Ill be 100% honest. I fogrot Hudson was even playing today. Seriously.

We shouldve been playing a 3 man line all game and took whatever they ran for. 5 DBs and linebackers protect the middle of the field. Honestly 2 DTS were absolutely useless today. Winovich, Uche, Gary, Thomas and Ross out there for most every play. If we dont recruit speed this will be the game every year. It wont change. If you gave our coaches the power of hindsight we would sill lose by 2 TDS.
