I agree with most of what you say here. Everyone can neg away if they want, but I don't believe Saban has to use bagmen based on the points you make. I've been in Alabama for over thirty years and, believe me, there were times when they paid. Auburn may have even been worse. But at this point, Saban gets people in the league and wins and the recruiting takes care of itself. I can't stand the guy and think he's a jerk, just don't think he has to pay. And I really would like to know about the comment made above that we have bagmen. Who the hell are they? I may be naïve, but I don't believe everybody pays players. I don't believe Michigan pays players.

The only good thing about this idea would be that potentially the divisions would be eliminated and we could play traditional rivals more and Rutgers and Maryland less.

I like Carter's show, but please. A day after his buddy Urbs is leaving, what can he do to help his alma mater's recruiting? Oh yeah, here's an idea. This is always a thing we are going to have to deal with......

12/02/2018 - 4:01pm You're right.

You're right.

Two hours away. I'll be there.

12/02/2018 - 2:48pm In the days of co-champions…

In the days of co-champions there was not a clear path to distinguish a single champ (i.e., the winner of the championship game). It made sense then when two teams tied with the best record to consider them co-champs. That is no longer the case. And a Division championship, to me, is just not that meaningful.

11/30/2018 - 12:15pm This should end well.

This should end well.

11/29/2018 - 8:23am If they all lose by forty.

If they all lose by forty.

11/29/2018 - 7:47am Thank you. One of the best…

Thank you. One of the best posts I have read this week. My brain was going to explode if I read one more post saying that all of the elite programs, including Georgia, play like Oklahoma.

11/27/2018 - 7:46pm Great comparison.

Great comparison.

11/27/2018 - 9:09am I am not convinced that all…

I am not convinced that all of the programs you reference are paying players. Ole Miss was undoubtedly doing so. Does Alabama have paying players in its past? Of course. Do I believe there was a lot of sleazy stuff going on in the Tressel era at OSU? Hell yes. But right now, I believe at the level of programs to which you refer, the recruiting largely takes care of itself because the most talented kids are looking for the place where they can get their three years in and go make real money. It’s not that I think Saban is a saint. Far from it. But at this point, I don’t think he has to cheat, at least to the extent of overtly paying players:

11/26/2018 - 2:37pm Thank you Rashan. You…

Thank you Rashan. You brought credit to this school on and off the field. Have a great career.

11/26/2018 - 10:25am Surprised with the record?…

Surprised with the record? No. To me, 10-2 is a good (not great, particularly given the talent that came back) year. Surprised at losing to OSU? Yes, but not overly so. Surprised at giving up 62 points to OSU? Absolutely stunned.

11/26/2018 - 8:18am FWIW, Alabama fans were…

FWIW, Alabama fans were saying some of the same things about McElwain I am hearing here. Of course, they were winning NC’s with defense at the time.

11/25/2018 - 11:32am I agree with this, but I don…

I agree with this, but I don't want to surrender to the mentality that you have to turn into Oklahoma and try to win every game 58-57. Oklahoma might well score 30-35 on Alabama, but they might give up 80.

11/25/2018 - 11:29am I made a comment in another…

I made a comment in another thread that there should be questions about defensive philosophy as much as offensive philosophy and this thread reflects others feeling that way. Having said that, I don't think it is realistic to think we will have more elite pass rushers in normal years than we did this year (at least from the outside). It's also not realistic to think we will have three or four No. 1 corners. We had as close to two this year as is reasonable to expect. The scheme needs to realistically address that you are not going to have All American talent at every position when playing against the best competition.

11/25/2018 - 10:36am I am in the minority, but I…

I am in the minority, but I think the offense can work. But there is one big "if" involved. It will work only if the offense has a dominant line. We do not. We were so thrilled with having an average to good offensive line this year. When compared to last year, we were thrilled. Even Saban, who won multiple NC's with run first/defense first has evolved. I don't want to go full bore Big Twelve, but unless we can recruit and develop a top five o-line, we have to be able to outscore people in other ways.

Having said that, I am wondering why there is not the discussion about defensive philosophy. Brown is great. But there has to be some sort of approach to deal with spread offenses with athletes as good or better than ours. Cannot argue with the overall defensive results the past three years, but once or twice a year (always including OSU), the scheme fails. Not sure what the answer is, but I do think we need to adjust the defensive approach as well.

It was a very good season. I can never consider a season great that ends with a loss like that to Ohio State.

You're probably right. Just trying to be as positive as possible. And the defense and special teams were truly awful today.

11/24/2018 - 4:16pm This scheme is a joy to…

This scheme is a joy to watch when it works. But I am going to quit thinking we have the best defense in the country every year until it once holds Ohio State under 30 points. Of course, if we had done that today, we would have won....

11/24/2018 - 4:10pm Considering the line was…

Considering the line was beaten consistently, they did pretty well. Of the three phases, the offense was easily the least horrible.

They would have been competitive in the West, but not in the East.

I heard the Rutgers broadcast on satellite radio as well. That may have been the worst college radio broadcast I have ever heard. Expected homerism, but they were constantly arguing with other and generally incomprehensible.

The term "Big 12 defense" is an oxymoron.

Relying on a BPI at the first of November is like buying long term options on a company that has not finished its articles of incorporation. Or its business plan. Or knows what its product is.

11/02/2018 - 8:12am You know, I may see this one…

You know, I may see this one a bit differently than some others. I think it is possible that a non-P5 could be one of the eight best teams in the country (best four would be very rare). I think back to some of the best Boise teams and when the played the big boys either in the regular season or bowl games, you could tell they were good. But UCF. Please. They're like a minor league Big 12 team. Giving up 40 to an average Temple team? Beating the worst Memphis team in several years by one? They are not in that class.

11/02/2018 - 8:05am Wow. I readily admit that…

Wow. I readily admit that most successful/good defensive backfields have to get away with a lot of holding and, in some cases PI. But to call that group "a bunch of average Joes" is seeing them a bit differently than I do. I thought it was one of the best defensive backfields I have ever seen, and I'm a Patriots fan. There are possibly three HoF caliber players in that group.

I Michigan runs the table, they're in, unless a there is a one loss SEC champion other than Alabama and a one loss Alabama. It sucks, but in that scenario, the committee will put in two SEC teams.

The only way you're not right is if Bama is the one-loss non champion. Then they would put Bama in. Hate it, but I think that's what they would do.

I totally agree. Unfortunately leaving a lot of points off the board against a good team is frequently a problem.

It was so bad that I have to believe they were confused when they announced it. I felt like our defensive ends were held on every play. I'm sure NW fans felt our DB's were covering too tight (including the defensive hold that the announcers pointed out). But that call was so off the beam. Just damn.

09/29/2018 - 8:48pm My happiest moment of the…

My happiest moment of the game on defense was well into the second half when the linebackers destroyed receivers on short passes over the middle on consecutive plays. That was after  had said "fucking slant" something like 23 times before then.
