Alabama fans. And it's not close.

01/02/2018 - 7:07pm Georgia is not a spread team.

Georgia is not a spread team.

12/04/2017 - 6:48pm Outstanding coach. I just

Outstanding coach. I just don't think he can get the recruits there to take them to the next level.

12/04/2017 - 12:44pm I had a very different

I had a very different experience with Auburn/Georgia. I have only been to one game, but as a fan of the sport, I loved it. There was a lot of smack talk, but it was fun and not belligerent. As someone without a dog in the fight, I thoroughly enjoyed both fan bases. It was the antithesis of my one game in Columbus, where I honestly felt unsafe.

12/04/2017 - 12:10pm You have a very different

You have a very different experience than I do. I find that the Alabama/Auburn rivalry is absolutely warped in terms of its impact on a large number of citizens in the State. I've lived in Birmingham for 34 years and have never understood how a football game could have such a broad societal impact. Most of my closest friends are Alabama fans. I married into an Auburn family. So I have people I care about on both sides, but when it comes to how they feel about the other school, it is 365 days a year hate. Do I have disdain for Ohio State fans? Absolutely. But I don't obsess about them. This State would frankly be a lot better off if it worried about the quality of its educational system and less about its football programs. The one thing that I do see that I don't get is this "SEC loyalty" during bowl season. They will talk about any other school with hatred during the year but it's SECSECSEC in bowl season. I tell all of them I don't get it. If Ohio State is playing the legions of Satan, I'm rooting for the demons.

This was one of the appropriate posts I have read in over a decade of following this blog.

Mike Leach is a national treasure.

11/19/2017 - 8:15am I am an unabashed Harbaugh

I am an unabashed Harbaugh supporter, but this is valid.

10/24/2017 - 1:17pm Thank God for some freaking

Thank God for some freaking sanity. Great piece.

10/09/2017 - 2:54pm After the game, I asked

After the game, I asked myself whether there are any legitimate Power Five quality position groups on the offense. Surprisingly, I came up with two. The tight end and fullback groups are solid. But when your only competent offensive play comes from your fullbacks and your tight ends, you most likely have a problem.

10/08/2017 - 6:27pm The receivers not getting

The receivers not getting open is huge. But the o-line is a big reason (if not as big a reason) the passing game is failing. Quarterbacking can also be discussed but I find it difficult to evaluate the QB position in light of the other two issues. But the receivers are not the reason there is no room for backs to run. The line is a huge part of why the entire offense is failing. It is the biggest problem with this team.

09/16/2017 - 3:47pm Not sure I can agree on

Not sure I can agree on Speight. I felt like he showed promise last year, but in my mind he has regressed. I feel like the O-line is as big a problem as he is though. Still feel like this team is a year away.

09/13/2017 - 6:40pm Not sure you want to go to a

Not sure you want to go to a game at LSU where you're rooting for the other team. Their fans are notorious for treatment of opponents and their fans. Georgia, on the other hand, would be top of my list. Great stadium and great fans. OTOH, would love to go there for a Bama game, assuming it would be competitive.

09/11/2017 - 7:09pm I hear what you're saying,

I hear what you're saying, but asshole fans bitch, boo, want to fire the coach after every loss and so on. You're a really twisted SOB to threaten a college kid with death because you didn't like the way he played in a game. That is a whole different realm of assholity.

01/07/2017 - 5:33pm Actually, he is both. Those

Actually, he is both. Those are very rare. One of the reasons some many SEC slappies (Finebaum, cough, cough) hate Harbaugh so much is that they know we have one too and they can't stand it.

01/07/2017 - 7:56am I liked Jim Harbaugh air

I found Jim Harbaugh air travel threads much more enjoyable than these.

Don't go being rational around here. It's hazardous to your health.

12/31/2016 - 7:58pm Michigan consistently blowing

Michigan consistently blowing out teams they were clearly better than. And the best defense we have had in a decade.

I like him a lot. It's not his fault that the guy who signs his paycheck is an asshole.

My favorite holiday viewing is the 1998 Rose Bowl.

09/19/2016 - 9:03am I hear your point, and agree

I hear your point, and agree totally about UFR. However, if their only "national" competition is the ESPN metrics, well, I will assume anyone is better than that.

This is not a very deep comment, but huh?

09/18/2016 - 6:33pm Understanding the redshirt

Understanding the redshirt rule is not hard, Understanding hiw you can judge that they did not earn the right to play is what is hard.

You base this on what?

09/11/2016 - 5:35am I understand that he was

I understand that he was trying to send a message to his kids, so fine. But the Paramus Catholic Alumni Association outhit his entire team.

09/10/2016 - 4:46pm Disagree

Didn't think this was running up the score and I seriously doubt that Frost does. But what he did to Carroll, you're absolutely right, THAT was running up the score. I loved it.

08/30/2016 - 9:27am I understand why he is only

I understand why he is only fourth on this list. (The to be named first three won Heismans.) Statistically, he is not even on a  par with Braylon. But I was a student his last two years. He, more than anyone, made Michigan football evolve. It was a (great) option offense before he came. But he was so electric.....he had moves that I had never seen. He did more per touch than just about anyone. It was Carter that, more than anyone, led Bo to a more pro style offense. This led to a generation of Michigan QB's and receivers that were abundant in the NFL. If I had to vote between AC or Woodson, I honestly don't know which one I would choose. But I do know this. Anthony Carter was a transcendent figure in Michigan football.

There was a fellow named Carter who was pretty good......

08/21/2016 - 9:06am Way too low. All time leading

Way too low. All time leading scorer. His performance throughout the NC run is one of the very few greatest in tournament history.

06/08/2016 - 9:36am I understand the thread

I understand the thread because the topic is relevant, so no disrespect intended to the OP. But I care as much about the First Take crew's opinion as I do Paul Finebaum's.

06/02/2016 - 9:33am Let it go. His platform is

Let it go. His platform is big. His audience is the trailer parks of Alabama. I worry about him like I worry about Jerry Springer. They are one in the same.

06/01/2016 - 9:49am I did not read the comments

I did not read the comments on because, as a matter of personal policy, I don't read the comments on (or anything on the Freep.) However, having lived in Alabama for over thirty years, I can assure you that most of those commenters did not go to Alabama. At best they went to Trailer Park State Technical and Cosmetology School for the Moronic. Look. I'm not pretending that Alabama grads aren't going to be hypocritical about Harbaugh's intentions. They will defend Saban to the death. But the vast majority of the true morons who support Alabama (e.g., most of the Finebaum callers) never came close to going to college there. Most of the graduates are passionate about their program like we are. There are some assholes, but mostly they are fans who love their program. The scary ones (e.g., tree poison types) are just redneck losers.

04/15/2016 - 8:53am Finebaum

Guys, please listen to me on this. I haven't played football since high school in the 1970's. Most of you know more football than I do. But I have lived in Birmingham, Alabama, Finebaum's original home base since 1983. He and I are close to the same age. I know more about Finebaum than most of you do. When I came to Birmingham, I found him to be a talented, intentionally bombastic, but less of an Alabama slappy, sports columnist for one of Birmingham's two papers, He eventually went to radio. The longer he was on radio, the less he was about legitimate sports and more about growing his (largely redneck) audience. I quit listening to him at least a decade ago, His show for many years has been a combination of Jerry Springer and SEC fandom coming to you from the trailer park. Is he smarter than his audience? Yes. But he is all about getting rich with his schtick. There is no point in wating your time giving one shit about anything he says. If Jim Harbaugh were to, God forbid, replace Nick Saban (not happening, I'm making a point), he would suddenly become the fourth greatest person in history behind Jesus, Bear Bryant and Saban.

Finebaum is as useful as Sharp. Stop wasting your limited time on this earth giving a fiddler's fuck what he says.

End rant.

You stole my post, I was going to say the reason TMIMITW went to Mars is because he realized he was less interesting than Harbaugh.

Kevin Scarbinsky is a hack of the highest order. I am surprised he is still employed. His opinion matters as much as certain Freep writers who shall not be named.

02/11/2016 - 11:09am Stop the fucking political

Stop the fucking political shots. If I want to hear Hillary bashing, I'll got Fox. If I want to hear Republican bashing, I'll go to MSNBC.

Just sent him an e-mail thanking him before I read this. He deserves a lot of love for the rest of his time in the job and thereafter.

01/26/2016 - 9:23am Two thoughts on this and

Two thoughts on this and given that I am a huge Brady fan who also likes Manning, I have thought about this over the years.

  1. First, fans of one, for some reason feel like anyone who respects the other is putting their guy down. That is being immature and silly, two things at which sports fans frequently excel. And by the way I am guilty of this. While I like Manning, I feel the media in general favors him over Brady, and I am not a fan of certain commentators because of this.
  2. Jealousy.
01/14/2016 - 4:25pm I agree with you about there

I agree with you about there being nothing wrong with it as long as the communications with the kids are honest and clear. I would be disappointed in our program if there were any confusion about an offer being a potential grayshirt. I'm not sure the kids always do know what's going on in some programs in my part (cough, cough SEC) of the country.

01/14/2016 - 10:34am It was me. We can now afford

It was me. We can now afford to hire Belichick as defensive coordinator and Saban to coach defensive backs.

01/14/2016 - 10:32am Well done. This is moronic

Well done. This is moronic and unethical.

01/14/2016 - 10:29am I tend to agree, although I

I tend to agree, although I don't think a fifth year is guaranteed. If a kid signs and does everything he can on and off the field, he should get his four years. Period. A fifth year, to me, is a different story.

01/13/2016 - 5:07pm You are correct, but in spite

You are correct, but in spite of that, they really did a good job of covering the news as opposed to partisan ranting.
