Serious question......do you REALLY think that USC is going to hire James Franklin?  I think that he's 3-12 against MSU, OSU and UM over the past five years.  He's already punching above his weight class at Penn State....I just can't see him getting an even better job at USC.

Les Miles probably should have held out a bit longer before he took the Kansas job....

No. I think it's all nonsense. But I think it's more likely USC's interested than Franklin's interested in USC.

Franklin's from Pennsylvania. He went to college in Pennsylvania. He's an east coast guy. I know USC is the premier west coast program, and I know we all want to hate Penn State for all of the known reasons, but Penn State is a football blue blood. That's a lateral move all the way across the country, ditching a program he spent 5 years rebuilding just to start all over again at a scuffling program with which he has no ties. Unless he's developed a Big Ten East phobia, that's illogical.

He's what, 3-15 against MSU, OSU and UM?  He can't out recruit 2 of the schools he has to play every year so that's very tough to turn around. At USC, he should out recruit the division easily nearly every year and probably the whole conference.

USC may already have more talent than PSU.  They were the clear pre-season favorites this year in the PAC-12 South and won 11 games last season. That's not a rebuilding job, at least not a difficult one.

If he were a smarter man, he’d realize that the PSU fan base isn’t going to accept the results he can reasonably produce. He won a conference title in the flukiest way possible despite being the third-best team in the division. He has to recruit kids to spend four years of their life in State College, Pennsylvania, a beautiful place that’s a three hour drive from anywhere.

PSU fans expect national championships, and he hasn’t really sniffed the playoffs, and a schedule where you have to go to Ann Arbor or Columbus every year isn’t conducive to winning.

Luckily, this is Jimmy F we’re talking about. He’ll likely hold on until he gets fired.

James Franklin won a big ten championship, back to back NY6 Bowls, hired Joe Moorhead, got Vanderbilt to 9 wins, and is a terrific recruiter. He’s no Harbaugh or Meyer, but not many are. He’s a very good coach, maybe a little overhyped, but he’s a very good coach. Not to mention, USC is probably one of the 5 best jobs in college football and he has an incredibly low buyout

lol--Miles should have held out a bit longer (!). Dude's been unemployed for years. He's already been holding out for a while and had no takers till Kansas. People here really overrate Miles' coaching chops. Cajun Hoke pretty much has the same record at LSU--life's easy when you've got all the talent in a talent-rich southern state on lockdown. Miles tenure at Kansas will be a disaster.

If David Ojabo develops, he'll be a top 10 pick in the NFL Draft. He's 6'5, 240, runs a 4.75 verified, 4.4 shuttle, and a 34 inch vertical. He's played football for two years, He still needs work in terms of attacking double teams and developing pass rush moves, but holy shit, he could easily add 30-40 pounds on his frame and just become a world eater at SDE. I'm more excited about him than literally anyone else in this class, maybe outside of Charbonnet and Giles Jackson.

The only issue with this DL class is that some highly rated kid is going to get stuck behind another, or moved to OL. Harrison, Hinton/Smith, Hinton/Karlaftis, Karlaftis/Ojabo is an absolute freak unit. You'd have no problem convincing me that 3-4 of them could become the best that Don Brown has ever had at their future positions.

My only critique of Ojabo is that he doesn't have a Scottish accent. Disappointing.

Defensive line is the one position group where this issue never concerns me.  If a DL develops well enough to contribute, they'll get him into the rotation and he'll get snaps.

This is becoming a very interesting class. Several extremely elite kids and several kids who are IMO huge reaches. Middle of the class is about what you'd expect. Michigan might sign the most 5 stars in any recruiting class in program history while also taking significantly more 3 stars than any other class in the top 10 sans Clemson. Will be interesting to see the finish.

In regards to Harrison in particular if this happens, what a hell of a recruiting job by Al Washington and Greg Mattison. If they sign Harrison and Karlaftis I'm confident in saying this is the best DL class in the internet era for any team.

3 years ago they were reaches. Today most of us should be convinced they will be coached up. Our coaching staff is not giving away 3 or no star scholarships if they don't feel they can contribute within 2-3 years.

In case you haven't noticed, Michigan is almost at a re-loading stage.  Re-loading at every position including QB.  OSU has had a run to be sure.  They lucked into the Meyer hire at a most opportunistic time.  OSU fans be careful what you ask for.  The next coach very likely will not have the same success you enjoyed for the past 6 or 7 years.  If Michigan wins on Saturday, it could be the beginning of Michigan's 10 year reign.

I have no doubt they will be coached up and that the staff is taking kids they genuinely want, however that still doesn't mean they don't make mistakes or that they don't reach on some guys. That also doesn't mean this class isn't a good one because it is. The reality is that most our starting 22 is composed of 4 and 5 star players. I'd be interested to know how many of our 3 stars are 1st or 2nd team all B1G kids.

Currently on the composite, there are 14 3* players committed to Michigan.

4 of them are from extremely underscouted parts of the country: APH, who has played one year of football and is a D1 basketball recruit, Jack Stewart, Mike Sainristil, and technically Karsen Barnhart. Even though he's instate, Paw Paw ain't exactly D1 central.

Joey Velasquez was a D1 baseball recruit, which took up his summers and prevented him from attending camps, which affects his scouting.

George Johnson is a low to mid 3* because he's a 5'11 high school quarterback, but he's thought to be the first person in Florida with 1,000 yards passing, rushing, receiving and returning. He's positionless, which is how a lot of services judge their ratings, because obviously 5'11 is much different in terms of projecting a WR/CB and a QB. He's not going to be a QB in college. May have a package but not a QB.

Charles Thomas, DJ Turner, and Mike Morris are all on the 4* edge, and have very solid offer lists. top 400 ranked players that without much movement could become 4*.

Zach Carpenter is good, just not a great athlete, but he's a very good OL.

A good way of knowing how the staff feels about a player is when he commits and what offers he has. If a player that's unranked or a 3* commits before the season even starts, it means that they feel very good about potential and scouting. If a player has an incredibly limited offer sheet from bumfuck, nowhere, that's also a good sign. If Michigan starts trying to flip 3*s from G5 teams this late in the season, or low level p5, it's no bueno because their initial first couple plans fell through. I LOVE this class from top to bottom.
