Cowherd Reports Urban is done in Columbus after this season
So, this should obviously be taken with the biggest grain of salt possible, but Colin Cowherd is reporting that two "trusted sources" are telling him that Urban Meyer will leave Ohio State after this season.
Cowherd is definitely an insufferable blowhard 99% of the time, but he hits fairly often on his "trusted sources." Either way, this is a delightful thing to see reported in mainstream media the week of The Game.

There's also the possibility that this was all planned preseason between Urbz and the Administration. There could be an agreement already in place for his departure.
November 19th, 2018 at 4:31 PM ^
I've definitely heard speculation that there is, or at least that they've been discussing his exit since his suspension.

Good Doctor,
This simple OSU fan can’t even grasp the basics of an employment contract. Using terms like “indentured servant” is just piling on.
November 19th, 2018 at 3:29 PM ^
I don't think you understand how a contract works. It's also possible that you're being tricked into working somewhere you've wanted to retire from for years.
November 19th, 2018 at 3:30 PM ^
Those are two different situations. Leaving for a rival school is a breach of contract and requires the contract to be bought out. Quitting is just quitting. He may be prohibited from taking a new coaching job for X amount of days, under penalty of buyout. But if he just walks away from football, the contract would be terminated.
Do you think a guy with Meyer's leverage would agree to a contract that literally forced him to work?
November 19th, 2018 at 3:50 PM ^
It looks like his signing bonus is structured as a yearly "retention bonus" so its not like the school could attempt to recoup a pro-rated portion of that - which would be unlikely even if he was paid a signing bonus if they ever wanted to hire another high profile coach again. On the other hand the thought of Urban Meyer in shackles being forced to coach for another 5 years is glorious.
November 19th, 2018 at 5:14 PM ^
You cannot get specific performance (i.e. force someone to work for you) for personal service contracts. In theory, OSU could sue him for damages but that's not going to happen. The reality of these situations is that another school cannot hire him without compliance with they buy-out clause. If he retires or takes a year off, OSU cannot force him to coach (nor would it want to).
November 19th, 2018 at 3:14 PM ^
You'd be a horrible agent.

"I meditate and it just goes away."
(thx for corrective note)
November 19th, 2018 at 5:15 PM ^
I think meditate is probably better but whatever works I guess.
November 19th, 2018 at 4:11 PM ^
I know you're a particularly obnoxious OSU fan, but how can you be such a dimwit? That's one of the dumbest posts I've ever seen on this site and I've been here a long time.
1. Of course Meyer can quit. Do you think OSU can force him to coach there for another five years? There is a section in his contract that deals with what happens if he quits early. Typically, he'd owe them an agreed upon sum depending on when he quit and payable only if he took another job in CFB.
2. He's going to cite the health issues he already had.
3. He's going to negotiate his departure. He's not going to just unilaterally announce he's quitting. I'd bet OSU pays him to leave and/or waives his buyout clause.
November 19th, 2018 at 3:03 PM ^
I cannot stand the thought of Urban Meyer going 7-0 against Michigan in his time at Ohio State. Especially with four of the six games played so far being a play or two away from a Michigan win.
Just fucking win.
November 19th, 2018 at 3:04 PM ^
Send Urbz home crying to his girlfriend... uh, I mean wife!
November 19th, 2018 at 3:06 PM ^
Trying to pull Earl Bruce motivation.
November 19th, 2018 at 3:06 PM ^
This has been a safe-ish guess for a while now. They look bad. He looks bad. He had a tiff with the administration. We've seen this all before.
November 19th, 2018 at 3:20 PM ^
It’s times like these that I hope you know more than the rest of us non-players....
And if your 11-1 prediction comes true in a few days then I will forever treat everything you say as gospel lol
November 19th, 2018 at 3:07 PM ^
We will definitely know more after their game vs. Florida in the Outback Bowl.
November 19th, 2018 at 3:12 PM ^
Actually, worst case for OSU at this point is probably the Rose Bowl.
Most likely scenario is UM beats OSU and Northwestern, which sends OSU to the Rose.
November 19th, 2018 at 4:09 PM ^
Im hoping they end up against Army and give up 500 yards rushing.
November 19th, 2018 at 3:07 PM ^
I won't believe it until Zach Smith tweets that it's true.
November 19th, 2018 at 3:08 PM ^
Just like his last year at Florida...unreal
November 19th, 2018 at 3:09 PM ^
Now we need a Brett McMurphy bomb. keep those morons heads spinning.
November 19th, 2018 at 3:11 PM ^
I hope so, but I still remember well that there were 'sources' out there saying Urban was going to resign / be fired before this season even started because of the Zach Smith stuff. I'll believe it when the press conference is announced
And then I'll expect them to immediately announce Nick Saban as his successor because that school has signed a deal with the devil that prevents them from ever seeing any serious consequences for anything
November 19th, 2018 at 3:37 PM ^
I've heard rumblings that the seat in Seattle is getting warm...
Watch them hire Pete Carroll and get even better.
November 19th, 2018 at 6:15 PM ^
In my opinion urban meyer is a much better coach than Pete Carroll. Caroll always seemed like Lloyd Carr but with more talent on the field.
November 19th, 2018 at 9:10 PM ^
Eh, I don’t agree with that . Carroll’s accomplishments blow Carrs out of the water

Just the type of confusion that may help lower their recruiting class. He is clearly a lier who deserves no pity. His actions or lack of action have caused more pain on others than he will face in his lifetime.
I actually wish he would stay another 3-5 years so JH can get ahead in the series and more of his dirty laundry keeps leaking out so he doesn't get to leave on his own terms
November 19th, 2018 at 3:35 PM ^
Their recruiting, while still filled with some top guys, has slowed to a crawl. Think they have only gotten 1-2 commits since season started and they are only in on a couple of undecided guys on the 247 board. Somethings up.
November 19th, 2018 at 7:11 PM ^
Yeah they have a solid class but it's small and the only big names they appear to be still in on are leaning away from them .
November 19th, 2018 at 3:13 PM ^
I have no idea if Meyer will resign or not but he sure looked like he could use a Prilosec or fifty last weekend.
November 19th, 2018 at 3:13 PM ^
This is exactly how many of us predicted his career at OSU would go.
November 19th, 2018 at 3:14 PM ^
I mean, did you see him hunched over vs Maryland? Coaching is not-figuratively killing him.
November 19th, 2018 at 3:17 PM ^
It is spelled M-O-R-A-N-S
November 19th, 2018 at 3:18 PM ^
So that makes three major national media guys (McMurphy, Finebaum and Cowherd) predicting this. Where there's smoke...
November 19th, 2018 at 3:18 PM ^
Motivation ploy.

I'll show my self out now...
November 19th, 2018 at 3:19 PM ^
If true I'm sure Urban and OSU would not want to have this leaked, so what source close enough to their program would tell Cowherd? What what be the benefit? Like Randall getting a few cookies from Miss Finster.
November 19th, 2018 at 3:20 PM ^
so what source close enough to their program would tell Cowherd?
Courtney Smith?
November 19th, 2018 at 4:16 PM ^
It seems like there were at least a few people in the AD who didn’t like the way things were handled. If him leaving has indeed already been decided, I’d bet most in the AD know, and it only takes one person to leak.
November 19th, 2018 at 3:19 PM ^
Now I'm glad I watched the OSU-Maryland game. I got to see Urbz's last-ever win as a head coach. Historic moment.
November 19th, 2018 at 3:35 PM ^
Which bowl is OSU going to?
November 19th, 2018 at 3:56 PM ^
One they'll lose.
edit: especially if they play Wazzu and that passing offense.
November 19th, 2018 at 8:34 PM ^
The Imodium AD toilet bowl.
November 19th, 2018 at 3:20 PM ^
Send him off with a big fat L, Coach!

This could be OSUs "2006." Hopefully this is the beginning of their 10 years in the desert.
