Cowherd Reports Urban is done in Columbus after this season

So, this should obviously be taken with the biggest grain of salt possible, but Colin Cowherd is reporting that two "trusted sources" are telling him that Urban Meyer will leave Ohio State after this season.

Cowherd is definitely an insufferable blowhard 99% of the time, but he hits fairly often on his "trusted sources."  Either way, this is a delightful thing to see reported in mainstream media the week of The Game.

Those are two different situations.  Leaving for a rival school is a breach of contract and requires the contract to be bought out.  Quitting is just quitting.  He may be prohibited from taking a new coaching job for X amount of days, under penalty of buyout.  But if he just walks away from football, the contract would be terminated.

Do you think a guy with Meyer's leverage would agree to a contract that literally forced him to work?

It looks like his signing bonus is structured as a yearly "retention bonus" so its not like the school could attempt to recoup a pro-rated portion of that - which would be unlikely even if he was paid a signing bonus if they ever wanted to hire another high profile coach again.  On the other hand the thought of Urban Meyer in shackles being forced to coach for another 5 years is glorious.

You cannot get specific performance (i.e. force someone to work for you) for personal service contracts.  In theory, OSU could sue him for damages but that's not going to happen.  The reality of these situations is that another school cannot hire him without compliance with they buy-out clause.  If he retires or takes a year off, OSU cannot force him to coach (nor would it want to).

I know you're a particularly obnoxious OSU fan, but how can you be such a dimwit? That's one of the dumbest posts I've ever seen on this site and I've been here a long time.

1. Of course Meyer can quit. Do you think OSU can force him to coach there for another five years? There is a section in his contract that deals with what happens if he quits early. Typically, he'd owe them an agreed upon sum depending on when he quit and payable only if he took another job in CFB.

2. He's going to cite the health issues he already had.

3. He's going to negotiate his departure. He's not going to just unilaterally announce he's quitting. I'd bet OSU pays him to leave and/or waives his buyout clause.

I cannot stand the thought of Urban Meyer going 7-0 against Michigan in his time at Ohio State. Especially with four of the six games played so far being a play or two away from a Michigan win.

Just fucking win.

I hope so, but I still remember well that there were 'sources' out there saying Urban was going to resign / be fired before this season even started because of the Zach Smith stuff. I'll believe it when the press conference is announced

And then I'll expect them to immediately announce Nick Saban as his successor because that school has signed a deal with the devil that prevents them from ever seeing any serious consequences for anything

Just the type of confusion that may help lower their recruiting class. He is clearly a lier who deserves no pity. His actions or lack of action have caused more pain on others than he will face in his lifetime.

I actually wish he would stay another 3-5 years so JH can get ahead in the series and more of his dirty laundry keeps leaking out so he doesn't get to leave on his own terms

If true I'm sure Urban and OSU would not want to have this leaked, so what source close enough to their program would tell Cowherd? What what be the benefit? Like Randall getting a few cookies from Miss Finster.
