OT: So.. We deleting the pot threads?
Not sure if this is gonna stay up, but it's a pretty major development. Congrats to the Michigan folk on this board. Looks like you're gonna be able to smoke weed recreationally soon...
If this is treading too close to politics, feel free to delete. But it's not often you get to see the repeal of a decades long prohibition. Guess you won't have to head over to Windsor to try marijuana for your first time...

So, I can smoke a dubie before heading into the game.
November 7th, 2018 at 6:24 AM ^
And you'll be the first to have ever done so
November 7th, 2018 at 12:36 AM ^
Happy for Michigan. Great day for freedom of choice.
November 7th, 2018 at 12:37 AM ^
Smoke some weed and chill, bro
November 7th, 2018 at 12:44 AM ^
Dear Michigan:
Congrats on legal weed!
Sincerely,
Frito-Lay
seriously though: weed is awesome. Didn’t touch it for 40+ years then legalized in Seattle. Now prefer it to a cocktail. Edibles only for me.
November 7th, 2018 at 2:07 AM ^
Ironically, I smoke way less now that I live in Seattle with legal weed three blocks away.
November 7th, 2018 at 3:31 AM ^
What's impressed me is that weed is legal in Washington, and yet I don't smell it much, and it doesn't seem to be a problem.
November 7th, 2018 at 6:07 AM ^
Clearly you don't ride the Green line. The street vendors there "gift" it, but apparently not in airtight containers. I smell it all the time, though less often in the Winter.
November 7th, 2018 at 6:20 AM ^
I lived in Seattle for 12 years and never went to a dispensary. But then when I moved to Virginia and realized I couldn’t, I truly felt as though something had been taken from me.
November 7th, 2018 at 7:47 AM ^
I visit Portland, OR regularly. Just after it was first legalized there, I remember smelling it everywhere. I haven't noticed it as much lately.
November 7th, 2018 at 12:47 AM ^
If your employer can still drug test you it doesn't matter.
November 7th, 2018 at 12:53 AM ^
There are so many more reasons it matters.
November 7th, 2018 at 9:34 AM ^
Did I mention how much I enjoy retirement.
November 7th, 2018 at 12:51 AM ^
Walking into my (dozens of!) friendly neighborhood pot store in Portland to buy a gram or two of flower from 20 or 30 different strains feels so civilized. Welcome to the future Michigan.
November 7th, 2018 at 1:00 AM ^
Load up on pot stock.
The more ore states legalize the more those stocks increase in value
November 7th, 2018 at 9:42 AM ^
So, you're saying it'll go...higher???...
November 7th, 2018 at 9:52 AM ^
HIGHA AND HIIIIIIGHA!
November 7th, 2018 at 1:18 AM ^
whenever I find myself too stressed from a Michigan game I enjoy smoking a J. Makes it more enjoyable to watch the game without being tempted throw my remote across the room.
I read somewhere that it isnt technically legal until Jan 1st of 2019 does anyone know if this is true?
November 7th, 2018 at 1:32 AM ^
I think that is the case, so not legal until January 1st. It could be one hell of a New Years Eve, once the clock strikes midnight. My Uncle will be happy, he smoked pot just like they were cigarettes. I remember when he would chain smoke joints when I went deer hunting with him. We were stuck in a tent and I actually felt high when I was 10 from his second hand weed smoke.
November 7th, 2018 at 2:21 AM ^
oh i bet you did especially if he was boxing the tent with smoke. but ya that will be one crazy new years with plenty of fog in the forecast
November 7th, 2018 at 3:54 AM ^
I thought so too, but read nope.... 10 days and law takes effect. By Thanksgiving, I shall been thankful.
November 7th, 2018 at 10:03 AM ^
It is 10 days after the state certifies the election. They usually do that in late November. So the first weekend in December is looking good.
November 7th, 2018 at 1:59 AM ^
Such a disappointment.
November 7th, 2018 at 7:13 AM ^
I hate more rights too.
November 7th, 2018 at 8:44 AM ^
Except there are reasons why not everything is a "rights", and this most certainly can be argued into the shouldn't be a right category.
November 7th, 2018 at 8:50 AM ^
Oh, do tell how a government deciding what I can and cannot put into my own body isn't a rights issue?
It's none of their goddamn business.
November 7th, 2018 at 9:16 AM ^
Fuckin A, brother. Fuckin A. Don't worry, Motives - I'll smoke a bowl in your honor.
November 7th, 2018 at 11:00 AM ^
Except it is when the things you are putting in your body affects others around you negatively.
November 7th, 2018 at 11:34 AM ^
That's not a reason to make something illegal. Junk food makes you fat. Fat people have more health problems. That causes my healthcare costs to increase, even though I'm not fat and never eat junk food. Therefore you should only be allowed to eat salad.
See how stupid that sounds?
November 7th, 2018 at 12:05 PM ^
I meant more immediate impact like drinking too much alcohol and driving drunk. Or do you think that should be legal too?
November 7th, 2018 at 12:21 PM ^
Driving under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs is already illegal, as it should be.
Or are you saying that alcohol consumption should be illegal too? We tried that already. Didn't work out so well.
November 7th, 2018 at 2:35 PM ^
But I thought it was your body, your choice and no one can say otherwise, or does it only work that way when it fits your narrative?
November 7th, 2018 at 3:45 PM ^
Are you completely oblivious to the irony in your idiotic comments? I think you are.
November 7th, 2018 at 4:04 PM ^
I guess I do fail to see any irony in all this, if you would be so kind as to point it out that may help me understand what you mean.
November 7th, 2018 at 8:35 AM ^
What's it like being old?
November 7th, 2018 at 8:40 AM ^
I am 25 lol, not that it should matter
November 7th, 2018 at 9:16 AM ^
Quite frankly, it's a pain in the ass. But thanks for asking.
November 7th, 2018 at 2:11 AM ^
Political maybe, but the proposal had some decent bipartisan support from what I saw in my circle.
November 7th, 2018 at 4:51 AM ^
The divide was generational and not partisan.
November 7th, 2018 at 8:53 AM ^
My hard right inlaws voted yes. So did my 75 year old far-left mom.
There was a lot of support for the issue from all demographics. I'll be interested to see if they did exit polling on it.
November 7th, 2018 at 3:53 AM ^
Very disappointing. Add one more thing to the list of things to fry the brains of our children. And now made legal. The decline of our society and our nation took one step further today.
November 7th, 2018 at 4:37 AM ^
Making it legal decreases access to children. Nice try though!
Edit: this is why this thread should probably be deleted. I don't want to know what poorly thought out political views are held by people here.
November 7th, 2018 at 5:26 AM ^
Exactly. Only your poorly thought out political views matter.
November 7th, 2018 at 6:35 AM ^
This is why most of us hate political threads. Many people are insufferable pricks when someone disagrees with their opinion with the attitude that other people are fools.
Either make a forum on this site for "Current Events" or whatever or blow these threads away immediately.
November 7th, 2018 at 5:41 AM ^
Wait, so it's harder to have an older friend buy it legally than it is to find a dealer, obtain the money and do it illegally? Interesting.
November 7th, 2018 at 5:58 AM ^
Ha! No shit. I have no problems with legalizing it. It's the same as alcohol to me. But some of the blitheringly stupid "facts" people have come up with to support it are just fucking laughable.
November 7th, 2018 at 6:24 AM ^
Alcohol is way more destructive than pot, IMO. Alcohol makes people aggressive and uninhibited. Pot makes you laugh at stupid things and crave Oreos.
November 7th, 2018 at 6:45 AM ^
I'm not disagreeing with you and voted yes on the proposal, but the argument you are giving is not great. What you are suggesting is that there should be tighter laws on alcohol. In the end, a regulated (and taxed) weed market is better than the current situation.
November 7th, 2018 at 7:18 AM ^
I think you are putting lots of words in my mouth, here.
I believe many people incorrectly view marijuana as a more dangerous and destructive drug than alcohol simply because one has been illegal and the other has been other legal. I was only pointing out that, in my observation, the opposite has been true.
I wasn’t trying to make any arguments about particular policy responses to these issues because I haven’t fully thought through these matters and anyway this is not an appropriate forum. But I will say, I believe the failure of alcohol Prohibition in the 1920s shows that banning alcohol is not feasible. Therefore, I think we have to take it as a given that alcohol will be available and consider policies with respect to other drugs from that perspective. It seems at least possible that increasing access to less destructive alternatives like marijuana could reduce alcohol abuse. But I have no idea whether any research has verified or disproved this.
November 7th, 2018 at 8:12 AM ^
You're generalizing on an anecdote. Your argument is invalid.
