OT: So.. We deleting the pot threads?

Not sure if this is gonna stay up, but it's a pretty major development.  Congrats to the Michigan folk on this board.  Looks like you're gonna be able to smoke weed recreationally soon...

If this is treading too close to politics, feel free to delete.  But it's not often you get to see the repeal of a decades long prohibition.  Guess you won't have to head over to Windsor to try marijuana for your first time...

Dear Michigan:

Congrats on legal weed!

Sincerely,

Frito-Lay

seriously though:  weed is awesome.  Didn’t touch it for 40+ years then legalized in Seattle.  Now prefer it to a cocktail.  Edibles only for me.

Walking into my (dozens of!) friendly neighborhood pot store in Portland to buy a gram or two of flower from 20 or 30 different strains feels so civilized. Welcome to the future Michigan.

whenever I find myself too stressed from a Michigan game I enjoy smoking a J. Makes it more enjoyable to watch the game without being tempted throw my remote across the room.

I read somewhere that it isnt technically legal until Jan 1st of 2019 does anyone know if this is true?

I think that is the case, so not legal until January 1st. It could be one hell of a New Years Eve, once the clock strikes midnight. My Uncle will be happy, he smoked pot just like they were cigarettes. I remember when he would chain smoke joints when I went deer hunting with him. We were stuck in a tent and I actually felt high when I was 10 from his second hand weed smoke.

That's not a reason to make something illegal.  Junk food makes you fat.  Fat people have more health problems.  That causes my healthcare costs to increase, even though I'm not fat and never eat junk food.  Therefore you should only be allowed to eat salad.

See how stupid that sounds?

This is why most of us hate political threads.  Many people are insufferable pricks when someone disagrees with their opinion with the attitude that other people are fools.

Either make a forum on this site for "Current Events" or whatever or blow these threads away immediately.

I'm not disagreeing with you and voted yes on the proposal, but the argument you are giving is not  great. What you are suggesting is that there should be tighter laws on alcohol. In the end, a regulated (and taxed) weed market is better than the current situation.

I think you are putting lots of words in my mouth, here.

I believe many people incorrectly view marijuana as a more dangerous and destructive drug than alcohol simply because one has been illegal and the other has been other legal.  I was only pointing out that, in my observation, the opposite has been true.

I wasn’t trying to make any arguments about particular policy responses to these issues because I haven’t fully thought through these matters and anyway this is not an appropriate forum.  But I will say, I believe the failure of alcohol Prohibition in the 1920s shows that banning alcohol is not feasible.  Therefore, I think we have to take it as a given that alcohol will be available and consider policies with respect to other drugs from that perspective.  It seems at least possible that increasing access to less destructive alternatives like marijuana could reduce alcohol abuse.  But I have no idea whether any research has verified or disproved this.
