I think if a 11-1 bama team got into the playoffs over a 12-1 Michigan team with a 1 score loss on the road at night against nd, Michigan would leave the cfb system.

People are pessimistic because a 1 loss bama team has gotten in over a 2 loss conference champ. That was still absurd, especially considering that if wiscy hadn't played that conference championship game they would have remained ahead of bama.

However, a 1 loss non-conference-champ has never gotten into the playoffs over a 1 loss conference champ. Win out and there is no argument against Michigan in the playoffs.

That's not how it works though, in a system like this H2H cannot be an automatic tie breaker because it punishes Michigan unfairly for playing a better opponent in week 1. Look at the rankings anyway - the CFP put LSU over ND already. Remember, ND hasn't lost a damn game yet, and LSU has. So  if ND loses a game they will drop down precipitously, because their strength of schedule is simply not good and they haven't looked all that great on the "eye test" either (too many way too close games against inferior opponents like Ball State).

I think you guys are really misunderstanding the preponderance of SEC teams in the top 10.

The committee has essentially set it up to guarantee that the SEC Champion makes the playoff. They have done this by putting all four teams in contention for the SEC title in the top 10. That way, by the end of the season one of them will be number 1 having beaten the others. They have also set it up for either Michigan or Ohio State to be in the playoff. The schools actually at risk of getting kicked out are Clemson and Notre Dame, nobody in their schedules is even close to the top 15. Instead, the committee put the two best teams from the other P5 conferences in the top 10 just in case.

This is the first poll, it's about setting the table. It's not like this is the second to last set of rankings.

I don't know man, LSU looked pretty good against Georgia.

The way ND looked against Vanderbilt, Ball St, and Pitt may be working against them. ND's defense was not good against Vandy, and Ball St, like it should have been. Teams like ND can slip up at unexpected times, say, against Northwestern. They don't look as solid as a top 4 team should.

Nah not too shocking, Iowa State has been playing good football and they actually held Oklahoma to a reasonable score and stayed in that game.  A shitty last second field goal against them via TCU and this team could be even higher.  Also a not-so-hot showing against Iowa but that game was essentially down to the wire as well.  Same as all other teams but a few bounces here and there and Iowa State is a Top-15 team again (last year I think they were at some point as they had the best 2 wins in the country for a while, Oklahoma and TCU back-to-back).

I predicted this earlier today. It makes absolutely no difference if they are 3/4 considering play Bama this week, except that this now gives ESPN something to talk about this week. Will an undefeated ND have a good enough schedule to get in?!?!

""Insecurity' strikes deep. Into your life it will creep..."

If Michigan beats PSU and LSU loses Michigan will move to, at least, #4. Maybe Northwestern will win and put ND out of their misery. From my Michigan fandom side I hope Kentucky beats Georgia-I think Georgia has an NC caliber roster...such a rooting is out of character for me...I "always" root for the best team. A lot of "reality" is going to happen over the next month.

One of the committee guys was justifying one team, think it was Kentucky or LSU, saying the Mississippi St was a high quality win. I think the three most absurd rankings in the top 10 are LSU, Kentucky and Wazzu.

should be

1 - Bama

2/3- Clemson / ND

4-LSU

5-UM

6-OK

7- GA

8-OSU

9-Wazzu

10 - Maybe Kentuck

This poll is basically an sec fuck fest. They desperately want the 2 sec team case in final poll. Lsu ranked at 3 and kentucky at 9 is dumb

It is curious to have ND below LSU, considering they are quite literally saying the Michigan win was a higher value win than the Georgia win, in addition to ND having no losses.

It was strategery on their part though. If LSU wins this week, they will essentially swap Bama and LSU. From there, Bama will basically be a shoe in for the CFP without a conference title. They did the same thing with OSU in 2016. I admit it's pretty sneaky but many can see right through it

I do agree with your Alabama swapping with LSU if they lose assessment. The committee is going to do everything possible to keep Alabama in the top 4 if they lose here. I thought maybe the committee would make this a must win game for Alabama...but clearly, here, they saw the "light"...another way to better in sure that a one loss Alabama gets in.
