How did UM miss on Devontae Dobbs?
...And Julian Barnett, for that matter?
I'm psyched about Trente Jones, but given our glaring need for ready-to-play OL recruits, it seems like Dobbs would be THE priority in this class. 247 lists Drevno as his primary recruiter. Was that the problem? What gives?

Please can this response and use it when the next Dobbs, Hand or Hart inevitably comes along. Thanks Dude

Fucking hell.
I wasn't asking "why on earth wouldn't he want to go here?" I wasn't suggesting "Harbaugh can't recruit."
I was literally asking what the circumstances were. Like what actually happened. I couldn't find it when I looked.
You guys are a bunch of peaches.
September 19th, 2018 at 9:56 PM ^
It seems like Michigan didn't really push that hard for him. Also he's 6'4, not exactly ideal size for an OT so he might be slated for the inside in college which wouldn't make him a huge priority for us. Either way, it seems like a situation where neither party was particularly interested.
September 20th, 2018 at 1:24 AM ^
The ironic thing about this is that all 5 of Michigan's OL commits are probably slated to play inside in college.
September 20th, 2018 at 9:30 AM ^
Trente Jones is definitely an OT, but yeah the other 4 are probably G/C. They say Barnhart is a T, but unless he has really long arms I doubt he's big enough.
September 20th, 2018 at 10:05 AM ^
Trente Jones is definitely a guard. This is from the Rivals southeast recruiting analyst 12 days ago:
Much like Morris, the Michigan commit had his share of ups and downs in the game. He was tasked with blocking a smaller, quicker defensive end prospect from Bergen who gave him his share of problems coming off the edge. Jones did however look good on the hoof and also showed impressive finishing skills while run blocking. He plays tackle for his high school team but is likely to play inside at the next level, which should accentuate his best attributes as a blocker. Jones remains solidly committed to the Wolverines.
September 20th, 2018 at 10:15 AM ^
Rivals southeast recruiting analyst is an idiot then. There's no way we recruited him to play him at guard.
September 20th, 2018 at 11:14 AM ^
Yes, the guy that does this for a living and who saw him in person two weeks ago is an idiot because you said so.
September 20th, 2018 at 1:15 PM ^
I get what you're saying, but it really makes 0 sense for us to take him if he's projected to move inside. We have 800 guards. I would be SHOCKED if he wasn't a tackle.
September 20th, 2018 at 3:32 PM ^
I agree it makes zero sense to take 5 guards, but this is also the same coaching staff that took zero offensive tackles in the 2016 recruiting class.
Lets hope they can reel in Bryce Benhart or Trevor Keegan.
September 19th, 2018 at 10:03 PM ^
Some are some of the times.
If you truly do not have a clue about your posed question then you are way less than even a casually interested fan. And here, your ignorance is your problem. Clearly Harbaugh had information on Dobbs...and did not believe the kid was worth the trouble.
September 19th, 2018 at 10:28 PM ^
They had him at a summer camp in '17. He did not impress. Some of the 3* did. Relax, the OL problem will not be a problem in a few more years. It's tough rebuilding your OL since all the starters should be 5th year seniors or seniors but since the program dumped in the toilet the last few years, it will take Harbaugh some time to rebuild all the positions groups.
September 20th, 2018 at 9:29 AM ^
His tape at the opening is hilariously bad, for a five star recruit. He may become a good one but he is a bit overated IMO, he is big, really big, overweight, in high school any 400 lb guy can be a good ot, in college it takes a bit more athleticism.
September 19th, 2018 at 10:37 PM ^
Fuzzy navels, more like it.
September 20th, 2018 at 10:17 AM ^
The backlash you're receiving is asinine. There's nothing wrong with your post. People get so damn defensive about this topic because god forbid we'd admit that we lost a recruiting battle to MSU, or that a precious coach screwed up. You were just wondering through the woods and stepped on a hornets nest.
September 20th, 2018 at 7:26 PM ^
I agree that the backlash is over the top. A bit of herd mentality. That being said, this has been discussed numerous times and there is apparently nothing new that prompts additional discussion, so I think that there is something wrong with the post.
September 19th, 2018 at 9:59 PM ^
This is a bad topic and you should feel bad, this issue has been discussed ad nauseum and it's WAY late in the season to talk about this now, especially with no context as to why you're asking.
September 19th, 2018 at 10:23 PM ^
I see no reason to feel bad for asking for (and subsequently getting) an answer to a question I didn’t know the answer to.
All the fucking nonsense on here could’ve been avoided if literally everyone who didn’t want to talk about it simply didn’t click on the thread.
All I did was ask a question. So really, this is all on you nutcases who decided to be know-it-all pricks.
September 20th, 2018 at 1:38 AM ^
So...we're all either fruits (peaches), nuts (nutcases) or pricks (cacti?).
I'm so confused.
September 19th, 2018 at 10:10 PM ^
There was an ESPN interview with him in June in which he detailed a general disdain for the recruiting process and said something to the effect of Michigan State being the only school that he felt was completely honest with him. I guess you cannot really argue a kid's perceptions of the process, but we can only wonder at this point, I suppose.
September 19th, 2018 at 10:45 PM ^
He also said Michigan seemed fake to him
September 19th, 2018 at 10:11 PM ^
If you enter “Dobbs” in the MGoSearch field above and select MGBoard as the target search area, you will be presented with a number of posts about Dobbs.
September 19th, 2018 at 10:15 PM ^
We forgot to send him the card.
September 20th, 2018 at 10:27 AM ^
That and the NC State "What up big time" letter make me laugh every time.
September 19th, 2018 at 10:20 PM ^
He's not cut out for Michigan. Most recruits probably aren't. If that means passing on a 5* OT in Michigan's backyard, so be it. It's the price we pay to not be like MSU and OSU.
September 19th, 2018 at 10:26 PM ^
My gosh. This is a little over the top.
September 19th, 2018 at 10:30 PM ^
Neg me.
We'll see how it shakes out.
Maybe it was a leading question. But he didn't come off well when dissing all the programs that recruited him.
September 19th, 2018 at 10:44 PM ^
Drevno fucked up his recruitment big time
September 19th, 2018 at 10:47 PM ^

This place is a cesspool of dickslaps, hot takers, know it alls , trolls and snowflakes. I love it, ill fit right in here lol
September 20th, 2018 at 12:27 AM ^
Everyone on this board is right. Stop worrying about the kids that we don’t have and be grateful for the ones we have. Why didn’t we get all the 5 stars every year?? Not all kids in the country want to go to Michigan and Michigan doesn’t want all the kids you want. Move on with your life!!
Go Blue!!
September 20th, 2018 at 1:13 AM ^
“Everyone on this board”? How about speaking for yourself. I for one am thoroughly enjoying the shitfest the OP has caused with this. Between the OP’s false sincerity at having not even tried to search for Dobbs info, to responses about farts and people’s moms, this is great entertainment.
September 20th, 2018 at 12:34 AM ^
Did you hear we got Daxton Hill?!?!? Devontae Dobbs can go eat a bag of dicks.
September 20th, 2018 at 12:39 AM ^
Wow, a very harsh comment to be making to a 17/18 year old kid just because he didn't want to be part of this recruiting class. Ever overreact much???
September 20th, 2018 at 12:46 AM ^
Oh shit I didn't know Dax can play OT. Thank God Dax will solve the offensive line issues that have plagued the program for over a decade /s
September 20th, 2018 at 12:45 AM ^
Yes it sucks we missed on Dobbs, but it sucks even more we missed on Brown. Top 100 OT recruiting doesn't get much easier than in state.
This board doesn't want to hear it because we have recruited every position well except for the one we need most, OT. Apparently if you recruit well but miss important positions it is fine and shouldn't be discussed
Its almost as if you can be happy with the class but also not be happy with the team missing on highly ranked in state OTs.
September 20th, 2018 at 12:58 AM ^
how about this , what do you know about dobbs except what you may have read or heard about? have you visited him at his home? met his friends and family, spent hours watching film on him? guess what the coaches have! so even though you may think you are informed, why do you waste your time even thinking about it?
September 20th, 2018 at 3:50 AM ^
idk. i think i would rather have AJ Dillon.
September 20th, 2018 at 6:11 AM ^
Why would a kid that will have to play OG in college be such a priority at tackle?
September 20th, 2018 at 8:01 AM ^
This has to get off of the "front page" list soon. Not because it's been discussed often for 2+ years, but because my peripheral vision keeps seeing "Dobbs" as "boobs."
September 20th, 2018 at 8:37 AM ^
Based on what he has said publicly, he just didn't seem like a fit with the program or the style of it. Best of luck to him, but hope he loses a lot.
