Tarik Black Has A Foot Injury
Michigan states what they know so far about the injury rumors flying around last night:
From UM: The Michigan Football program announced that wide receiver Tarik Black sustained a right foot injury at Saturday's practice. Tarik is currently being evaluated and no definitive time frame has been determined for his return to play.

Feldman provides some additional, unfortunate detail:
SOURCE: #Michigan WR Tarik Black is feared to have broken his foot Saturday at practice and is expected to miss an extended amount of time this season. He is considered to be one of UM's top weapons. He missed 10 games last year with a foot injury.

The appropriate response to this is to yell an expletive and think about throwing your coffee mug but not actually throwing it. It'll be fine! Maybe!

Arrrgggghhhh!!!!!
August 26th, 2018 at 2:32 PM ^
foot injuries should be 6-8 weeks depending on if surgery is needed or not
should at least be back after the bye week for penn state, but very possible he misses both the msu and wisconsin games
August 26th, 2018 at 2:53 PM ^
Doubt it. Do you expect him to come in seamlessly after going without conditioning and practice for that long? Also, his history of foot injuries might lead UM to be cautious on returning.
August 26th, 2018 at 2:32 PM ^
But what if actually throwing the coffee mug makes me feel better?
August 26th, 2018 at 3:40 PM ^
I broke the remote control the last TWO times we lost to MSU. I did feel better afterward.
August 26th, 2018 at 2:35 PM ^
<Sigh>
August 26th, 2018 at 2:35 PM ^
So does this pretty much pencil in Nico Collins to be the other starting WR for now?
August 26th, 2018 at 2:48 PM ^
Pretty much. Hopefully his hype this offseason is true and he can take over.
If Black recovers by the end of the season and only plays in say the last 4 games, would he be able to take a redshirt this year? Not sure if that rule is for all redshirts or only for freshmen
August 26th, 2018 at 2:59 PM ^
I believe so, and he may even qualify for a medical redshirt if he misses this year based on what happened last year.
August 26th, 2018 at 3:29 PM ^
I doubt it matters. If he misses most of 2 years due to injury he will probably want to get what he can from the NFL. He probably won't stay for a fifth year. NFL careers are short enough even if you don't get injured.
August 26th, 2018 at 5:03 PM ^
My guess is that is true too, but I was just pointing out that option is there. You also need to prove you can play and stay healthy to get drafted or make an NFL roster. It took Darboh two years before he got all the way back. Tarik Black has played a total of 3 games. If you can't make an NFL roster, you are probably better off staying in school until you think you can or have your degree.
August 26th, 2018 at 6:45 PM ^
What pro career? He won't have the numbers to get drafted.
August 26th, 2018 at 9:18 PM ^
If he can stay healthy over 2 years that is plenty of time to show what he can do.
August 26th, 2018 at 3:39 PM ^
He was injured early enough last season to qualify for a medical redshirt. He’s listed as a Sophomore because Harbaugh lists players by their education year, not eligibility. But he’s a redshirt freshman.
August 26th, 2018 at 2:35 PM ^
FUCK!
August 26th, 2018 at 2:57 PM ^
Yup. Thanks- that's the word I was looking for.
August 26th, 2018 at 2:36 PM ^
Obviously, this is terrible news. But, while the thought is untimely, I wonder if it might be time to rethink our current shoe deal. Because that's clearly the problem here.
August 26th, 2018 at 2:41 PM ^
Seems to only be an issue for Tarik. Maybe we ought to look into some Reeboks specifically for him.
August 26th, 2018 at 4:36 PM ^
Clearly
August 26th, 2018 at 6:43 PM ^
If the shoe fits, yes. But, maybe it doesn't.
August 26th, 2018 at 11:58 PM ^
Maybe he should leave them unlaced...
/Denarded
August 26th, 2018 at 2:37 PM ^
Damn it!
Just curious...is his right foot the same one he injured last year?
August 26th, 2018 at 2:39 PM ^
Other foot this time.
August 26th, 2018 at 3:31 PM ^
Thank you. I'm surprised that wasn't addressed in the initial tweets.
August 26th, 2018 at 2:41 PM ^
MEECROB
August 26th, 2018 at 2:42 PM ^
What can you say to this? I feel more sorry for Tarik than the actual program. The cards just were not in his favor. I'm devastated for the young man.
August 26th, 2018 at 4:02 PM ^
I agree. Team has depth for this reason.
feel so bad for Tarik. He has worked his ass off to get to this point. Pray for him that it’s a non-season ending injury.
August 26th, 2018 at 4:03 PM ^
I feel the same way. The team will be fine, but to miss almost two entire seasons is a cruel fate.
August 26th, 2018 at 2:43 PM ^
Can't believe this kid's bad luck! Hopefully he will back for a breakout performance in THE GAME.
August 26th, 2018 at 2:46 PM ^
Maybe he redshirts this year? Depends on when he comes back. As nagging as foot injuries can be I wouldn’t rush him.
August 26th, 2018 at 3:42 PM ^
He redshirted last year. He was injured early enough in the season to get his medical redshirt
August 26th, 2018 at 7:34 PM ^
I'm not a doctor (though I play one on the internet), but if it's a clean break I thought thing like that are generally less tricky to heal than something like an ACL or even some recurring thing like turf toe.
The only possible silver lining is this happening a week before the season as opposed to the 3rd week.
August 26th, 2018 at 2:46 PM ^
This sucks ass. Seems like he breaks his feet a lot
August 26th, 2018 at 2:49 PM ^
Fuck!
August 26th, 2018 at 2:55 PM ^
Poor damn Tarik.
August 26th, 2018 at 2:55 PM ^
Deja vu, all over again
August 26th, 2018 at 2:56 PM ^
I want to say “next man up!”, but more than anything just feel for Tarik and hope he gets well soon.
August 26th, 2018 at 3:28 PM ^
The only problem is that we are running out of men there. Can Eubanks play wide receiver? Kind of joking. Not really.
August 26th, 2018 at 3:44 PM ^
We still have 6 scholarship WRs. We have the ability to go 3-4 deep at TE. Evans is a threat out of the backfield.
With the amount of 12 and 21 personnel Michigan runs, losing one WR isn’t a big deal.
Obviously Tarik is a special talent and you definitely want him on the field, but Michigan has plenty of options here.
August 26th, 2018 at 3:54 PM ^
Losing one wide receiver is not a huge deal. Three in a month starts to be though.
August 27th, 2018 at 8:17 AM ^
Eh not really. Are you REALLY going to miss Crawford? Kid was a really good blocker but his presence wouldn’t change how I feel about losing Black. He left because he was getting passed by Collins and the slot guys were impressing
Dont get me started on McDoom. Good weapon. Fast. Love the name. But he was third string slot. He doesn’t really factor in as a pass catching option.
So I really have to disagree with you here.
August 26th, 2018 at 7:36 PM ^
It's a big deal since he's probably at least our 2nd best WR. Most of the other good WRs seem to be slot types. It's just not the same threat.
August 27th, 2018 at 8:14 AM ^
Sure, maybe if you ignore Nico Collins and the tight ends...
As I said, it sucks losing one of your top pass catchers. But Michigan has plenty of capable bodies to replace him.
August 26th, 2018 at 2:59 PM ^
Throw ALL THE COFFEE MUGS!!!!!!!
This sucks. Poor guy. Hang in there Tarik, we’re all behind you.
August 26th, 2018 at 3:05 PM ^
They'll be fine without him. Of course, they would be better with him. Tough break for him and hopefully he has a speedy recovery.
August 26th, 2018 at 3:08 PM ^
Damn it Damn it Damn it
August 26th, 2018 at 3:14 PM ^
Expletive! Expletive! Expletive!
Now what?
August 26th, 2018 at 3:47 PM ^
Oliver Martin can go wide. So could Gentry. Hopefully he’s back soon!
August 26th, 2018 at 3:15 PM ^
A broken foot was 10 weeks last year for him. A best case scenario is him being game fit again for the last couple of games. Just have to hope the team can pick up the slack and make sure those games count.
