My wife is watching some Korean drama that I'm not paying attention to.

01/08/2019 - 5:59pm We've gone more than 5 hours…

We've gone more than 5 hours without losing a coach to Ohio State, is that not cause enough for celebration?

I heard from my friend who is a Northern Illinois grad and a little bit tapped in there that Carey is on his way out for Temple and they will hire Matt Canada. If that's true obviously Don Brown is not leaving for the Temple job so that would be my guess what this is about.

01/08/2019 - 1:13pm Freshman McGary would…

Freshman McGary would probably be the most fun addition to this team without changing its current makeup too much. He'd just play 10-15 minutes a game and fit right in with how this team is structured.

Any superstar level player is going to change the team into something almost completely different.

I sat one table over from Lloyd Brady at an mgoblog meetup thing after a spring game maybe five years ago.

NYE was 36 hours ago, how are you still drinking?

01/02/2019 - 11:05am Baker Mayfield and Kyler…

Baker Mayfield and Kyler Murray are both transfer QBs and Justin Fields might transfer to Oklahoma. Clearly there is something wrong going on at Oklahoma because they can't recruit QBs that play for them.

12/28/2018 - 3:24pm This doesn't seem like it's…

This doesn't seem like it's going to be a one score game in either direction. Michigan has whooped up on basically every team that isn't CFP caliber and Florida sure as hell isn't CFP caliber. But, yeah, the odds Michigan lays an egg in this game seems to be at least a one in three shot.

12/28/2018 - 1:21pm Even if people want to…

Even if people want to quibble with the number of starters there are 5 contributors from this year's defensive line that need to be replaced. DE is less of a question mark because a rotation of Paye, Uche, and Hutchinson should allow for solid run stuffing and hopefully solid pass rush. Then you hope for one of Vilain, Welschof,or Upshaw to give you spot snaps when they are needed.

DT is just hoping and praying at this point. If one of those guys emerge then maybe Paye can see scattered snaps at 3T on pass rushing downs. Dwumfor and Kemp are both situational players at this point. Hopefully Jeter can fill Mone's run stuffing role, but obviously that's yet to be seen if I can do that at all. Then you're hoping on true freshman and that's never a good bet.

Zero ballz for Michigan and Dudek is not usually this specific when he drops the new commit tweet. Think this is purposeful for those who might want to hope it's a Crouch signal.

I'm going to sit around at work and waste time on the internet dreaming up Manny Machado and Bryce Harper signing with the White Sox.

12/19/2018 - 10:31am RB is the easiest position…

RB is the easiest position for a true freshman to play so Charbonnet has as good a chance as anyone of ''starting" next year, but even if he gets the plurality of the carries I don't think any one back is going to be a main back like Higdon was this year.

Safety is definitely an area of need and Dax Hill is instantly the most talented guy in the secondary, but if he starts it probably won't be until deeper into the season. He'll play right away, but probably split time.

Smith and Hinton will likely both get a chance to play some next year, but won't start.

Jalen Perry has a lot of people to jump, but there might be two jobs open at CB next year so he likely has a shot at least.

Jackson and Sanrastil both should see some time as they aren't other players like them on the roster right now.

Soloman, Johnson, and Velazquez might get some scattered snaps here and there. I'd guess everyone else redshirts.

12/18/2018 - 1:00pm College football has been…

College football has been the NFL's minor league for the NFLs entire existence.

12/18/2018 - 12:58pm Higdon has likely secured…

Higdon has likely secured his spot as a mid round draft pick. He already has over 200 carries on the year. He gave everything you could possibly ask for the team and it makes perfect sense for him to sit out the bowl. Stay healthy and get your money, Karan.

It seems incredibly unlikely he's the difference between a win and a loss in the bowl game. He's a good back that gets the yards he should, but he's not a game breaker that can make something out of nothing. I would like to see a more pass focused offense in the bowl, it's the direction the team should be heading next season anyway.

12/18/2018 - 10:40am Sure, but whatever…

Sure, but whatever separation Michigan has created between these three and themselves isn't as big as the separation between Michigan and Ohio State for number 1. If it makes you feel better to have Michigan in its own tier above Penn State, MSU, and Wisconsin feel free to create that tier in your mind, but Ohio State is very clearly on another level than the rest of the B1G.

12/18/2018 - 9:41am Michigan is a second tier…

Michigan is a second tier college football program right now. It sucks, but once you accept that it makes the recent events less painful.

The B1G is currently in a "Big 1", "Medium 4", "Little 9" period and we all know who the one is.

12/17/2018 - 2:07pm MICHIGAN

12/04/2018 - 4:21pm CEO coach is pretty much…

CEO coach is pretty much just code for guys that aren't a play caller on either side of the ball.

For you as a person in a leadership position, why wouldn't you try to surround yourself with great talent? Do you purposefully hire bad people to make yourself look good? I don't understand business I guess.

11/27/2018 - 2:12pm I only recognize teams that…

I only recognize teams that have given up at most 61 points this year.

Thank you for existing basketball team.

11/19/2018 - 12:21pm I don't think the…

I don't think the implication is as nefarious as that. It's just that if you choose UCLA over Michigan you might not take football as seriously as those that would choose to come to Michigan.

There are certainly worse things to be accused of, and it is obviously from a biased perspective, but I would definitely agree with Brian if that is indeed his implication.

It's not just Brohm. He's a Purdue legacy that lives in West Lafayette.

11/12/2018 - 11:42am 2:1 favorite doesn't seem…

2:1 favorite doesn't seem all that high based on what you'd think the chances would be based on all the media speculation. Everything surrounding this situation you'd think this would be a done deal. That gives me a lot less confidence that Brohm is actually going to Louisville.

Michigan is already up to 12 and 8 in defensive rating on kenpom and barttorvik, respectively lol.

11/06/2018 - 1:39pm I'm going to allow myself…

I'm going to allow myself the stupidity of already looking at next year because Michigan has a game coming up this week where both teams would just be better off having a bye.

QB: Year 2 Shea >> Year 1 Shea

RB: Probably the most interesting group to me. I think Evans is a good back, but I given that he still doesn't have much of a role on this team I don't think he'll be getting anything other than a plurality of the carries next year. Turner might be ready as an option, but I think the real hope here is that Charbonnet is the real deal at the one position a true freshman can really take over from day one.

Blocky/Catchy: I don't think Gentry has done enough to go pro, but if he gets a 3rd round grade I wouldn't be shocked if he left early. There's plenty of depth there anyway and the one thing really missing is probably an excellent blocker at this position, which he doesn't bring. Overall the group is probably a tick better next year with Gentry back and about even without him.

WR: Everyone back but Perry. I wonder if we see a little more of DPJ in the slot or if Oliver Martin is the one getting almost all the reps there. This group should be the most improved of any unit next year pending health and Shea's return.

O-Line: I don't know how much better this group can really get. Not having a pair of maulers on the right side may hurt. Maybe they would be able to do a little more in the screen game which could play into Evan's strengths if they are more athletic at both tackle spots next year. Could see Runyan moving over to RT if Mayfield breaks out or sticking at LT if Stueber is the better option. Losing Hudson is still confounding and sucks.

DE: There's enough bodies here to not have production drop off a cliff, but obviously this group won't be as good as this year. Paye and Hutchinson are good, but like honorable mention All-B1G at best for next year. I don't think Uche can be an every down player, but he will continue to be a terror on passing downs. I'm pretty much writing off Villain ever being a factor, but I hope I'm wrong. Hopefully one of the redshirt or true freshman can play a handful of snaps a game and not get blown off the ball.

DT: Hopefully Soloman is healthy and starts a true break out next year. Dwumfour beefs up a little and is able to hold up on standard downs better. Kemp seems like probably just a steady player that won't give you much more than he has this year. Jeter can hopefully hold up against the run and give you scattered snaps throughout the game. Probably more likely to see Paye bump down and get a few snaps inside than anyone else really cracking the rotation. This is a group where you hope there is solid improvement next year over this year, but I'm thinking it will probably be about the same level of play.

LB: When you lose an All-American obviously things are about to get worse, but there's enough bodies here to get you to 2016 level LB play most likely. Ross can play either spot and Gil seems fine. I don't think Hudson is leaving early at this point. I'd hope Jordan Anthony or Cam McGrone start to push from behind here, but even if they don't this won't be a trouble spot.

CB: I hope both Long and Hill don't leave early because then you have to find an entirely new group of corners. Though what the defense asks of them is not super complicated so it's really just a matter of being athletic enough and then picking the right times to get a little grabby. Ambry Thomas I have full faith in and then you hope one or two guys surface from the rest of the young guys. St-Juste is nearly in Villain territory, but I won't completely discount his chances just yet.

S: Looking at probably similar levels of play next year with Metellus taking a small step forward and Hawkins probably being about on Kinnel's level. Then you just wait to see how long it takes for Dax Hill to start stealing snaps.

Special Teams: Probably remains at this exact level next year, but you know, #collegekickers

Either way this is a pre-season top 10 type of team. I think everyone in the country will rightly give Don Brown the benefit of the doubt going into next year no matter how many starters are back. I think it's probably more of a top 10-15 defense than top 5 like this year, but it won't be noticeable against bad teams. If Shea comes back the offense could legitimately be one of the best in the country. Even if the run game takes a step back you'd be able to pass to set up the run against just about anyone in the country and running back by committee should work just fine even if no one is able to establish themselves as THE guy. Without Patterson the offense may sputter a bit, but it isn't until week 4 that they'll be tested so it shouldn't cost the team any wins.

11/05/2018 - 4:25pm Congrats to him and glad to…

Congrats to him and glad to have him on board. I hope he sticks in the class because Tim Baldwin is my brother's name and I'll get a real kick out of having him be on the team lol.

10/26/2018 - 10:57am I would like Clemson to lose…

I would like Clemson to lose a game and this week is probably the most likely game left. I agree that if Clemson loses they will probably drop to #4 in the playoff standings. That would set up Bama vs. Clemson in the first round and the two most talented teams in the country. I think Michigan can beat ND/Oklahoma or whoever else would be the #2/3 seed in that potential match-up. Having to only play one of Bama or Clemson would greatly increase Michigan's title chances.

The rest of the games don't really matter. I'd like Texas to lose because I think they are a fraud. I want Iowa to win because I respect their program ten times more than Penn State's. I want Purdue to win because Rondale Moore is cool and every win pushes Brohm closer to Louisville.

10/16/2018 - 1:43pm Brian, please consider this…

Brian, please consider this a formal question for the WTKA MGoBlog round table.

If Michigan wins the national title this year, should Mahmoud be an honorary captain for the season opener next year? I'll hang up and listen.

10/10/2018 - 9:27am Betting on Michigan +475…

Betting on Michigan +475 would win you $475 on a $100 bet

Betting on Wisconsin -1000 would mean that you have bet $1000 to win $100

10/06/2018 - 9:44pm I know at this point in the…

I know at this point in the year we are still looking at relatively small sample sizes, but Maryland entered this game as the #5 run defense in the country giving up only 2.67 YPC against FBS teams. I doubt they will finish anywhere near the top 5 in the country, but this isn't SMU or WMU by any stretch of the imagination. This is a run defense at least on par with Northwestern.

well shit, now I'm terrified

09/25/2018 - 1:13pm I think it's most likely…

I think it's most likely Gentry still being mad about being moved from QB to TE and now he holds a grudge against all of the QBs.

It's a major fracture in the locker room that is going to tear the team apart at some point.

Wasn't aware it was that rare, still though, a man can dream.

09/17/2018 - 11:50am Northwestern has a bye this…

Northwestern has a bye this week and there's a lot of rain in the forecast. Wouldn't surprise me if they let the grass grow extra long for this game to try to slow things down.

09/17/2018 - 11:43am As someone going to the game…

As someone going to the game that lives about an hour from Evanston this sucks. Thought we'd be able to get a noon (11 a.m. local) kick given that Northwestern just lost to Akron.

Going to miss a pretty good chunk of the first half of OSU at Penn State and probably the entire first half of Stanford at Notre Dame.

Rain is in the forecast too, but obviously that's way too far away to trust at this point.

09/07/2018 - 10:25am A really aggressive, but…

A really aggressive, but crappy defense is just what the doctor ordered for this game. I could see a couple early three and outs/short drives, but hopefully the offensive line can hold up and limit negative plays and we can see Patterson make quick progressions that lead to big play opportunities.

Of course I say this and now Michigan is going to score 18 points on Saturday and look like absolute ass.

08/26/2018 - 2:32pm foot injuries should be 6-8…

foot injuries should be 6-8 weeks depending on if surgery is needed or not

should at least be back after the bye week for penn state, but very possible he misses both the msu and wisconsin games

08/23/2018 - 11:35am Just listened to WTKA…

Just listened to WTKA podcasts and no offense to frequent caller "Jake" but I don't know how you can be pumped up for college football right now. I love college football and look forward to it every year, but it gets harder and harder to get pumped up when so many blatantly terrible things get swept under the rug (or just openly disregarded I guess) because schools can't be bothered to do the right thing.

I'd like to think Michigan is above it all, and quite possibly they are, but as B1G school after B1G school gets implicated in one awful thing after another that clouds my thought more and more.

I'll still be excited for kickoff at 7:30 on September 1st, but the whole sport feels gross to me right now.

I like the part of his film where he trucks the living hell out of some 160 pound kid. I wish his tape was five times longer than it is.

BJ Askew? I guess he was just a fat RB though.

Am I insane for thinking he could develop into an OT?

Length, balance, flexibility all sound like traits of an OT to me

06/22/2018 - 11:53am SMart WolveFan was right and…

SMart WolveFan was right and this is probably not the right post for me to bring all this up. I'm happy for the kid and it was shitty for me to be a Debbie Downer in his commitment post. I have absolutely no problem with this kid, or any other 3 star kid, committing to Michigan. I hope this kid is great and if he moves up the recruiting rankings as a result of this commitment then more power to him.

I'm just saying that recruiting rankings on the whole have proven to matter and when seemingly no one but 3 stars are committing that does not portend great things for the future.

06/22/2018 - 11:22am That someone being Bluey,…

That someone being Bluey, who I didn't know who they were until today.

06/22/2018 - 11:19am I'm glad everyone has…

I'm glad everyone has someone to rail against and I certainly wish this kid no ill will and hope he's a great player, but when was the last time Michigan got a 4 star to commit?

I don't follow recruiting super closely, but every time I see a kid is linked to Michigan or has committed to Michigan I just assume it's a three star and I honestly don't remember the last time I was wrong about that.

06/06/2018 - 9:40am I took the plunge and bought…

I took the plunge and bought a 4k TV a few months ago. For TVs I usually wait until the new models come out and buy the previous year's after a price drop. I bought the Sony 900E 55" model for $1000. I don't have the best home theater setup at my house and I sit only about 10-12' away so I didn't need a super high end TV.

I don't regret the purchase at all and would recommend the TV for a mid-range option.4k content looks great on the TV, but 4k content is kinda few and far between at this point. The TV uses Android TV and the interface is a little sluggish at times, but I don't often use the native apps. I typically either am watching cable or using my PS4.

I would highly recommend for finding a good TV for you. If the website reviews are a little too much info they have video reviews for each TV up on YouTube where they do a great job of explaining the strengths and weaknesses of each TV for the lay person.

03/26/2018 - 11:30pm I knew he was a HS coach in Illinois, but didn't know where

I would gladly buy the man a dozen Home Cut Donuts or maybe he's more of a Chicken 'n' Spice guy.

02/27/2018 - 4:36pm PPG!

It's basically points per game above average. It is similar to WAR for baseball so it's a counting stat. Since Pool doesn't get the same amount of minutes most of those other guys got he can't put up big counting stats numbers.
