Greg McElroy: “All inidications are pointing towards Meyer being reinstated.”

Submitted by The Baughz on

I apologize for another Urban post. I am exhausted of them myself, but felt this was semi board worthy.

I was listening to ESPNU radio on siriusxm this morning and McElroy, who has stated several times since this news broke that he felt Meyer has no chance of coming back, is suddenly changing his tune.

He said he spent all day yesterday talking to multiple people who are plugged into this situation and now feels pretty confident in Urban returning. I felt this was a pretty big deal since McElroy felt strongly about Urban never returning to OSU. He did not mention any of his sources, but cited the fact that they all felt Urban followed correct protocol in reporting the incident and there’s no justification found to fire him.

McElroy isn’t a guy who i would go to for breaking news, but I do feel like he is somewhat plugged in. I’m not going to say we should all believe him and that Urban is definitely coming back, but just thought I’d share this and point out that some national media are starting to change their stance on Urbs returning.

This should surprise nobody.  Meyer will give some teary speech about how he failed the young men, donate some money to RAINN or something, and then be back on the sideline.  And when they win some games, some asshole on commentary will say they hope this helps heals the team, much like they did when PSU went to the Rose Bowl after covering up sexual assault of children for decades.

From the start I have not heard a single talking head say he'll go unpenalized. Now we listen to these "experts" change their tune. Not an original take but fuck the media. There is no accountability and these ass hats will go on not caring how wrong they were......again. And just move on to their next failure. I don't get this culture and never will. Without integrity, accountability, and accuracy I'd be living on the street.

My $0.02:

I think what the investigation will show

  1. Urban lied
  2. He's a shitty person for keeping Smith on his staff for years
  3. He may have technically done just enough to avoid being fired for cause

Thus OSU will keep him because they don't want to pay the $38mil to make him go away. Maybe a suspension for a couple games for the lying/to make it seem like OSU is against that type of behavior.

That being said, I'm skeptical McElroy or anyone else has many insights into what investigators know. I think the longer it goes on people are just rationalizing that OSU is unlikely to fire him, without much actual new info.

In addition to reinstating Urban; OSU to wear teal colored alternate uniforms this year to show their support against domestic violence.

It's just about money and winning folks.  Ethics be damned.

OSU's desired outcome is to retain Meyer. I think everything they do is in support of that outcome unless and until it becomes clear that outcome in not attainable. This 14 day suspension and investigation is to get the story to cool off and for the general pop to move on. I'll be shocked if he's fired and shrug when he's retained.

I have found that when people are being immoral or unethical, they like to claim that other people are immoral and unethical so it doesn't matter.  What's happening here is that Al Capone is being investigated for tax fraud and OSU fans are here constantly claiming that, technically by the letter of the law, his tax forms are in order and all of us who want him in jail just don't like the fact that he's a more successful businessman than we are and we should wait for more facts of his tax returns to come out.  I'm pretty tired of OSU fans claiming that they are no different than me while they do this.  I want Al Capone in jail and you don't and it has nothing to do with Al's successful business; it has everything to do with wanting some justice for once.  Just because you don't care about morals and ethics doesn't mean no one does.

I agree with the earlier comment -

if Urban Meyer were still coaching at Florida and pulled this crap, then Ohio State fans would be shouting to the rafters, and be all over him with criticism and calls for resignation like flies on shit.

Regardless of whether Urban reported Zach Smith being a wife beater to Gene Smith, OSU (and really the state of Ohio) just has to answer this question:

  • Is it acceptable for the most visible spokesperson of the University to knowingly:  (1) lie about an important issue, and (2) harbor a known domestic abuser?

If the answer is no, then OSU should fire Urban for cause per his contract sections 5.1(e) - can't be dishonest, or 5.1(o) - morals clause.

If the answer is yes, then OSU should give him a couple game suspension slap on the wrist.

Either way, they have strong legal justification to fire him regardless of Title IX.

Pretty obvious.  And totally fine with me.  JH is getting us ready to supplant Meyer now that he has had a few years to figure things out and I want Meyer across the sideline when this is proven.

This was an inevitability as soon as the "investigation" two days into its work announced there was a two week timetable to completion. It was a slightly more polished version of MSU bringing in Engler. They had a set, desired outcome, and this was the path to it.

There’s an article up on 247 site quoting Greg saying he doesn’t believe Urban will be back. It was posted 3 hours ago from his interview on ESPN radio this morning.

You know damn well that OSU will “find a way” to show that Urbs followed protocol and reported the issue. But everyone knows that’s not the case!

You are going to say that one of the 3 top coaches in all of college went to his bosses and reported that his coach was beating his wife and that OSU did nothing? I say nothing because it’s reported that the wife has never ever been approached or called by OSU. Trust me when I say the university w take the hit as a morally bad university to help clear up Urbs and to continue to have him coach.

Its obvious as Urbs “sees the light and NOW says I told OSU” the university and Urbs got together and planned this out.

This is all bullshit once u look through the crap. Walks like a duck, talks like a duck, it’s a Fucking Duck People. Urbs has a horrible history of shit like this. It’s just sad.
