META - Board Apathy
Anyone else very surprised that no one seems to have cared enough to make a board post pointing out that Brian didn't turn the comments on for the most recent main page post?
Grown men concerned about up or down voting on an internet sports blog..smh
Did it make you feel good? This blog provides great information about Michigan sports and that’s what matters. If you are over 16 and are seriously concerned about upvotes it’s time for some self-evaluation.
They only turned the voting on for those of us who have demonstrated responsible voting in the past.?
Logged in just to say - I suggest you find a new site to support. We will be fine without you. Have a happy life...
Classic.
I'm on my phone, so it took me a good 90 seconds to figure out whether you were responding to me (thank you for the absurd respone). That's a big part of the reason why people aren't as enthusiastic about the site.
OTOH, maybe this site is also a joke; it's just less obvious than the geocities one. That would be the ultimate cuck to the mgoblog base.
Dear ndekett,
So sorry you had to spend 90 seconds of your life trying to figure that out.
You could have used that time to whine and complain more about 3.0.
The app was just easy to read but perhaps for posters harder. All I know is this is past the honeymoon stage and I feel like I’m losing the rhythm of the site. It’s ok to admit a mistake and pivot. Apps are better for readers
For me, I’ve only been able to get on the site from my phone. With the format on my phone it’s been a little confusing figuring out who is replying to who, and I haven’t been able to figure out how to create content yet.
There was a thread I was attempting to create the other day (Rivals updated their rankings and I was going to list the changes for Michigan commits and a few top targets) but couldn’t figure it out and didn’t have the time to dig for it.
Not a big deal, but I’m wondering if there are other people who simply have confusion on how to use the new site, especially from their phones without an app.
I'm class of '82, been on this site for about a decade, regular reader, lurker, sometime poster.
This re-do is a little too complicated for me, and I'll guess for other pre-internet brains as well.
Thus fewer posts in general, FAR fewer protracted debates. I think us older fucks were responsible for a LOT of those!
I made a board post with this same topic and for some reason the mods nuked it.
Bad news isn't easy to hear (read) apparently.
Honestly I just never make a point to check on the board.
The same was true with the old site. With the old site I would navigate to the site a couple times a day to check in on Brian and Ace, and I would see the board posts on the right and would get sucked into a discussion despite myself.
With the new site I need to consciously think “better check on the board” which I only do once or twice a week. This just shows me whatever random posts happen to be at the top of the list. Maybe it is just OT season, but for some reason the posts don’t inspire me to jump into the conversation.
Oh well, I’m also fine just reading the main articles.
I just finished reading that UV post and got to the bottom to read the comments and there were none. I then refreshed the page and bam...commenting is available. They must have read your post.
Well, the board is experiencing a lot of change so people might be more understanding. As the board is, I hope there will be improvements.
With all the time that was taken to get this thing up and running, doncha think a lot of it should have been in place PRIOR to the launch? We aren't talking about a web site that only took a month or two to put together. I get that it isn't easy but you'd think you'd know what features etc you'd want for your message board. GBMW's chat board is better than this FERGODSAKES!
GBMW - that still exists?
I just realized that the new look of this site reminds me of a Penn State white out game. That is not good!
Well, thanks for putting that thought in my head, Mr. M-Lemon.
It'll all work out in the end. I think they've already made some minor touch ups (number of diaries is down to 3, number of board posts visible is up I think). It's a new site plus it's June. I think once football season kicks into gear the board will be humming with activity again
Well, we'll see if this interface can even handle the flood of content that comes during football season. It seems to me it takes up too much space and displays too little information to keep up with much more than the current trickle.
Question: did you ever provide the requested screen shot of the pixelation you talked about in the bug sticky thread? I don't see any, but I do get the white space issues (and white background) - I don't think they've closed up post spacing, at all.
Look at the bar at the top of your screen. See how the A in About looks like a staircase? The V in the M? The inside of the Os and the slopes of the Ks? Maybe I'm just OCD, but it drives me nuts.
Ahh, you jerk - now I see your point, and I can't unsee it! I shouldn't have asked...
I would enjoy being able to vote again.
I would enjoy seeing your avatar and feeling a connection to it like I did 10-15 years ago.

Seth is all over the Sticky post to fix “bugs”. I wouldn’t say nobody’s listening. He seems dedicated to be the point man for improvement
Weirdly I was just about to yawn and get off the site after I read your post when I realized that that was in fact APATHETIC behavior. As a result I decided to comment.
For those on chrome, I made an extension that removes some of the clutter in the new design: MGoExtension
Specific changes:
- No more banner or story tiles at the top of the page. The first thing you see is the latest post.
- Comment threads are more condensed and less cluttered.
- Board threads listed above diaries in the sidebar.
- Board threads default to 100 comments per page.
- Fewer diary titles in the sidebar.
If anyone installs it and has feedback, let me know. It's much easier for me to make fixes to this extension than for Seth & Co. to makes fixes to the site. (I used to work for a shop that did a lot of custom Drupal work so I sympathize with the situation they are in.)
Thank you!
Can someone install this and report back if they've had their identity stolen or not? (I would like to use this extension. Nice work HAH.)
How does hatin ass holliday have 7 upvotes but no MGoPoints?
According to Seth the voting function is still under construction. The votes are being counted but updating is delayed. It's been out for a couple of days at least. Read the Sticky Post at top of the board about "Bug Fixes" for lots of info.
See, I'd trust a chrome extension from someone with 7040, maybe 7041 points, but any less than that, and I'd be worried about the person having nafarious intentions.
I keep coming back to this post to see if someone with a lot of MGoPoints vouches for the extension. ...and it takes me like six clicks to get to the actual HAH comment. For some reason it doesn't always show up when going to the second page. It could be human error, but more than likely Human Element screwed up the pagination.
As I wrote a day ago, 3.0 = New Coke.
It's like eating at Ruth's Cris and then having to feast on 1990's dorm food
It's like going from Lloyd's 97 championship team to Richrod football.
It's like Dave Brandon secretly designed the site.
It's like a salute to Mgoblog 1.0.
It's like learning that your hot date is really a guy, after a few beers and on your couch and 15 minutes of foreplay before you get the surprise.
Sorry if I'm not making myself clear about the state of things here.
Btw, the new site is making me think of starting a "what are you drinking this morning?" thread.
Ok, all jokes aside, I'm not exactly thrilled with it but it is what it is and I'll still check in to see what's going on from time to time.
I just open the site on Safari on my iPhone and post there. I'd like an app, but this will do.
I know with no app that you guys thought you could curtail my shitposting, but I outsmarted you!
I get it. I think there were two items in the past week for which I thought about starting a thread. Then when I remembered that I couldn't from my phone, I moved on to something else and forgot about them, figuring someone else would do it eventually. Alas, only one of those topics found their way on to the board, so obviously topic creation is down 50%. That's not necessarily a bad thing in the off-season.
the "After the Jump" link doesn't work. It takes me to the page of the full article but starts at the top, not where I left off.
Seth said that would happen from the start of the rollout. Don't understand the tech enough to know why, but he seemed to indicate it was not fixable?
Pretty annoying, in a sort of minor way tho...
There were 35 responses to your thread when I posted this. Want to guess how much scrolling I had to do to get through them???
THAT'S why I've been less active. Things which used to be simple are harder. Things which used to be quick take longer. Things which used to work...don't.
A functional and user friendly interface will pull me back in as quickly as this shit show pushed me out. I like Mgoblog, but if I was still an IT project manager this wouldn't have been considered a successful launch. Wonder how much UAT they did...
You captured my feelings exactly. What was once easy is now hard and I've got a lot more to do in life than fight with the layout of a message board to understand where things are.
It's been said before but I think it bears repeating-new MgoBlog was designed for better consumption of front page posts and is way, way worse for the board. Which is where I used to spend 99% of my time.
God help the game day thread posters. With this much engineered white space comments will be impossible to respond to with any accuracy.
The inability to come back to a thread I was previously reading and pick up where I left off. It gets lost in all of the white space and poor formatting, and the last post button doesn’t seem to work.
Does mgboard 3.0 have a backup board that we can start chanting, “bring in the backup!”?
I don't know about apathy, but the redesign has been a pretty significant obstacle for me reading and interacting with most board content. Doesn't make any sense to me, isn't intuitive in any way, so I just skip it.
MGoBlog needed a redesign. This, however, was not it. Reboot please.
I had no real issue with the design of the old site. I just didn't like how it would crash whenever big news broke.
