Makes a lot of sense. If Shea heads to the draft after this year and Brandon is able to grad transfer after spring ball next year. You’re looking at only Dylan and Joe and realistically no game experience. Bringing in Jeff at least gives them a worst case scenario 3rd option in case of injury, assuring that Cade can redshirt and not be forced to play.

So one of if not both peters and mccaffrey are transferring and the staff also has zero faith in the other being good. Qb development has been a complete and utter shit show and taking another grad qb shows the staff has zero faith its getting any better.

Gee it’s really difficult to figure out why Michigan keeps not getting their top qb recruit.

Injuries are a part of football but other teams somehow manage to put together competitive teams without 5 Qb's on the roster.  If your top two QB's get hurt you are probably having a bad year and that is just as true if Jeff George is our 3rd string QB as it was with O'Korn last year. Its better roster management to say if we get to our 4th string QB it means our offensive line isn't good enough and focus that roster spot on improving another part of the team rather than on a 4th string QB who might be slightly better than a walk on.

Having 3 non true freshman QB's out of 4 on the roster is a perfectly fine situation. Elite teams around the country are winning with true freshman and rs freshman qb's let alone rs sophmores and juniors. I know its a fun excuse but somehow Michigan is the only team that needs a two deep of seniors in order to have any shot of winning games.

Its the message it sends. Sorry not seeing nothing but positive remarks and Harbaugh can do no wrong counts as a troll to you. Must be easy to win an argument when any opposing viewpoint you can just brush off.

Even with walk ons there are limited roster spots. Schools make good value with walk on spots, its something that Wisconsin does extremely well. Every roster spot including walk ons comes with an opportunity cost. If the coaches have faith in Patterson this year, one of Peters or McCaffrey for next year and for Milton at all having Cade as the 3rd string QB in 2019 is a fine situation and this roster spot could be used on a position where recruiting projections are much less accurate and development can occur later such as on the offensive or defensive lines. Either Harbaugh is doing a favor to a friend, which is a dumb way to run a team, or he still isn't completely confident in Peters, McCaffrey, and Milton which is a problem with recruiting and development. You can take your pick but every roster decision is made for a reason and none of the available reasons are positive.

Honestly, just shut up - you are the most ridiculous poster on the Board that hasn't already gotten kiboshed.  You thought he was getting a scholarship and now you can't admit it so you make up some stupid point about walk on spots.  There isn't a person on this board outside of Magnus and the staff that could name more 10 walk ons from the roster without looking it up.

Schools. including Michigan, literally add walk ons from student body tryouts each year.  This guy started B1G games - pretty sure Jim can take one less student body walk on this year and all will be fine.

ak47 concern trolling with 2 long paragraphs on how other schools get the most out of their walk-ons compared to Harbaugh and how this walk-on shows what his confidence is in freshmen quarterbacks. How does this guy still have a fucking account? He is seriously using Wisconsin as an example of how we should be getting more out of our walk-ons. Fuck off ak, you’re almost as bad as bluey as a poster

My initial reaction to your post was that I hate you.

Then I laughed. Your concern trolling gives me something to do when I should be working. So thank you ak. Your work is appreciated.

Just know, whenever I figure out how to vote again, you will still be getting my down votes.

I can see the why behind this given Harbaugh's relationship with Jeff Sr., but other than that, this move is way, way, way over my head.....

It seems a little weird. I don't think JH is bringing him here just so he can get a good education. Perhaps the doing a favor for his dad likely. If he is a PWO then it's fine, but if he is a scholarship player then I believe he (JH) is hedging against something. My guess is a transfer.

Yeah, I think people are reading into this too much. He was passed over at Illinois and realizes his career in the NFL is a long shot, so probably wants the Michigan degree over playing backup at Illinois. Moreover, the staff probably knows he wont sniff the field and just maybe they don't want Milton running the scout team like McCaffrey did last year. So he could be a good scout team QB for us.

A MS degree at Michigan would be great for George, and if he wants to try out for QB more power to  him. Peters should not be threatening to leave the program if he is not the starter. That kind of talk is no way to win Harbaugh over. You have to earn the starting job and it is possible Peters has the talent to do so but if Shea beats him out then Peters can make his decision based on where he finishes in the roster against Dylan. If Shea has a great year he probably is NFL bound next spring. If Peters stays he could battle it out against Dylan and George. Though, Peters will probably transfer is he is the 3rd or 4th string QB this season.

trivia for the kiddies.  Jeff George Sr. was the #1 draft pick by the Indianapolis Colts.  Played 3 terrible seasons for the Colts, including some drama about refusing to come to work for a while in his third year.  The Colts then replaced him with.....Jim MF Harbaugh

Seems like he could have went somewhere else with a much better opportunity or guarantee.

Hopefully this isn't a sign that JH is unsure of QB's #2 and #3. Or that he is hedging against a shaky O line and getting two QB's hurt again.

Maybe he wasnt paying close attention to our offseason and only has the OSU & South Carolina games fresh in his mind.  If so I get it.  He probably thought "Shit....even I could start for these guys"

If Peters or McAffery have hinted they might leave, this is a good move, we will need the depth.  And people will say what they want, but he had nearly an identical passer rating to Brandon Peters in more games last season, so he's basically statistically the same QB with more experience.

"Jim Harbaugh announces the 2021 recruiting class, which includes 19 QBs and 2 kickers. In addition to the 3 graduate transfer QBs from the 2020 class and the 4 JUCO QB transfers, 75 of the 85 available scholarships are now held by QBs."

If he is a PWO, then it’s a sound move to add B1G experience at low cost. Supposedly a good teammate so he can mentor Dylan and Joe even if he doesn’t win the job at any point.

If he holds a scholarship, then it seems shaky.

I don't think this means anything regarding Peters. Harbaugh has been trying to get 5 scholarship QBs on the roster and in this day and age it's going to be really hard to get 2 QB recruits in the same class unless you take a complete flier on a guy. George gives you an extra body in the QB room who is probably better than a low ranked recruit or a freshman walk on. Doubt he ever plays.

I don't get how people can be mad at adding him as a walk-on. We now have a guy as our 4th string QB who has starting experience at another B1G school and he doesn't take up a scholarship. It seems like a great situation to me. He also is going to be here two years so he has some time to learn the system and maybe even develop a little.

Lets be clear though. If Jr. ever plays meaningful snaps at Michigan something probably went horribly wrong. There should be 0 expectations for him. But as we learned this past year, you need bodies. If some 2017 level shit happens again and we lose 2/3 QBs again, well shit's probably hitting the fan again, but at least we have an option. Not a great option but if we get to the point where Jr. is a viable starting option, it probably means the other options are true freshman Joe Milton or another walk-on. If those are our options, it means we're probably fucked, but at least we have 3 bad options instead of 2. And maybe one surprises us and something sticks. Probably not, but at least now we have Jr. instead of Milton in a break in case of emergency situation.

We were looking for a 2nd QB to come in with Milton because he was raw.  Didn't happen with Shough so this is the second guy.  Probably break glass in case of emergency but I'd be surprised if he'd be above BP or DM on the depth chart ever.

Lovie is going spread option with his offense and has recruited a 5 star (!) athlete to be his QB. George knew he was done there. This is all about his degree and depth for MI, nothing more.

Did it dawn on anyone that he’s going to Michigan for School? Seems less interested in football than the grad school choice he’s making!
