Rumormongering: Morris taking 1st Team Snaps this Week? [Ed-H: False.]

Submitted by JamesBondHerpesMeds on

I'm not sure where else to inquire about this, but I've heard a few unfounded rumblings that Shane Morris is taking the majority of the snaps this week in practice. At first, this sounds pretty ridiculous until you take into account the tweet re: Gardner's arm being in a makeshift sling earlier this week.

Mods, I plead that, if this is too incindenary, that you promptly shut down said thread instead of purchasing my one-way exit row seat to La Paz.

[Ed-Heiko: This rumor is false.]

It has more to do with tendency then anything else. You'd be amazed what you can pick up after watching a game or two.

Morris has the arm talent to beat anyone on the deep ball. You know if Morris is out there osu will indeed likely man up and allow us the chance to beat them deep.

I'm just speaking strategy at this point. Things Al could do to at least try and win.

is a better pro-style QB, just maybe we would be better with him, maybe, I wouldn't know, since the game means nothing to us from a championship standpoint, why not find out.

I hate to be the Debbie Downer, but it really doesn't matter.  Gardner or Morris, either way we lose this game convincingly.  I just hope we don't lose so bad it hurts the program, recruits, fans booing etc.  Althought I do hope we play poorly enough on offense that Hoke is convinced to fire Borges...assuming we lose that is.

I hope so. I'll be at the game and it's my last OSU game as a student. I've been going to Michigan games since 2006 so I've seen my share of beatdowns. While I'm not getting my hopes up, part of me doesn't want to miss the chance to see this team take out a season's worth of frustration on the Buckeyes.

I think Borges wil coach a horrible offensive attack. Nonetheless, Michigan comes out of this with a win. Defense plays strongly and get's some points. Green falls foward just enough time.

I have hope and I can tell the players have hope to. Can't wait for the game.

I'm not defending his all-time-worst Mr. Hyde performances this year.

But Al has called some good games here.  Too bad he had no idea how to either develop or cover for an inept interior O-Line.

Maybe this is a game where he gives up on "program building" and just calls to win on every down knowing he'll get crushed otherwise.

Agreed, Ohio is susceptible, they prove it year in and year out.  My wife is an Ohio fan and I got her tickets to the Purdue Ohio game last year.  We left before it was over because it looked like it was over in favor of Purdue.  Ohio seems to drink their own Kool Aid a couple games a year and think they're better than they are.  I will be at the game this Saturday and hope they do.  In regards to Shane and Devin, I have to believe this is just a rest Devin situation and plan in case he can't go as the game goes on.  I imagine Borges is planning a heavy dose of running with Devin since there's nothing to lose at this point in the season and that's been our best offense this season.  If he runs that much, you have to be prepared in case he gets hurt, which would explain Morris's first team snaps.  I hate to say it, but if the first team snaps really do mean Morris is planned at quarterback, I'm thinking it won't end well, especially given the O Line's issues.

I don't want to say it's a worst nightmare situation if we win... But what if Borges has his Mike-Debord-at-a-bowl-game epiphany, starts calling all sorts of new shit that amounts to an entirely new offense, it works, we win, and we get stuck with this clown? Shit, what if they've been prepping Shane Morris all season long in some kind of fortress of solitude to learn said offense? Is that where Drew Dileo and Jeremy Jackson have been all this time?

Look deep into my eyes...

Oh God.

As I have said before, I don't give a rats ass who coaches this team, so long as they give these guys the best chance to win. If Al can prove in this game that he knows what he's doing (and it's sustainable) and we actually win...then that's awesome. If a win means we keep borges than I'll take it. I would never hope for a UM loss just to further my hopes of AB getting the axe.

or throw the ball all over ND as a true frosh so can Shane. We did lose that game but we"found a QB"  were in the headlines the next day. I am pretty sure it was the Rocket Ismial show with at least two kick returns (probably three) for TD's.Too much for the team to overcome sorry even though I was there I forgot the year (90's) also Lou Holtz was the coach. Sorry, I was really high during the 90's. EDIT 1989  2 kick returns source wiki

If Shane Morris is the QB of the future, you may as well play him. OSU tossed true freshman Braxton Miller into the fire with a horrible team and offensive line and he put up similar numbers to 2013 Devin Gardner. If Garder is hurt, could Shane Morris be that much worse? And if he is, is he the answer in 2015+?

Your offensive line wasn't this terrible. I mean it wasn't great but it wasn't this bad either. I Post suspensions I think a decent offensive chunk returned right? Morris woud be a pinata out there for your defense unless we get a good running game going and Borges calls a lot of quick passes that allow Morris to get rid of the ball quickly and let Gallon, Dileo, and others get in space and pick up chunks.

True enough, but even Miller admits that playing his freshman year without a lot of coaching on fundamentals really hurt him. He didn't come to OSU with a refined throwing motion like Morris, but was far more mobile and able to run for his life, extend plays and make things happen.

Miller was confused a lot of the time during his freshman year and lived by one rule: when confused, run with the ball.

I'm fine with Morris getting a LOT of snaps this week. Gardner's problems are with repetition or practice - it's with EXECUTION (Hoke-Speak). Practicing half of the snaps or less isn't going to hurt him anymore than what I've seen this month. DG needs one of those sports-shrinks during the off-season.

Morris should get a boatload of snaps during the bowl practices and Hoke needs to man-up enough to put him in the bowl game, like MSU did last year with Cook, if DG looks doomed.

The new OC (and Brandon better not accept the full staff coming back) should make it clear in '14 that the job is Morris' to lose.

p.s. maybe Hoke ISN'T that self-deceived and knows it'll be a blowout by late in the 3rd quarter and let Morris play in a full quarter of garbage time.

based on what?  Certainly not the few minutes he's been on the field.  And, even when Gardner has been hurting, the coaches weren't confident enough to play him.  At best, your position must be that he ain't Gardner.  I simply don't believe Gardner is our 1st, 2nd or 3rd biggest problem on offense.

Bo started a freshman QB (Rich Hewlitt?). He got nicked up and was replaced by Wangler, who went on the great things. But at least it might give us a boost.

Still...DG is not likely to be much better next year anyway but he does deserve to start and give it a go for the crap he's dealt with under Borges, Funk, and the worst O-Line in the B1G since 1979 Northwestern.
