Rumormongering: Morris taking 1st Team Snaps this Week? [Ed-H: False.]

Submitted by JamesBondHerpesMeds on

I'm not sure where else to inquire about this, but I've heard a few unfounded rumblings that Shane Morris is taking the majority of the snaps this week in practice. At first, this sounds pretty ridiculous until you take into account the tweet re: Gardner's arm being in a makeshift sling earlier this week.

Mods, I plead that, if this is too incindenary, that you promptly shut down said thread instead of purchasing my one-way exit row seat to La Paz.

[Ed-Heiko: This rumor is false.]

I love Gardner, but his confidence is gone and he clearly is not 100%. I would rather start Shane and have some confidence that we might score points as opposed to getting obliterated and being frustrated with poor play.

Shane's first start in high school he was thrown into a huge game as a freshman and won. In high school he had ice running in his veins according to several scouting reports. You need someone leading the offense that has confidence. Gardner has none.

If we do get killed with Shane back there his confidence is not going to be destroyed. Anyone that says that or thinks that has never played football or really any competitive team organized sports or is just a pussy

Playing as a freshman QB in high school and playing as a freshman QB at Michigan in The Game are not even in the same universe.  I'm with the people saying it's not gonna ruin him for life but there's also about a 1 percent chance of him actually playing well with this offensive line.  At the very least Gardner is used to how fast guys are coming at him and can run away.  What's the point in getting Shane destroyed if it's not necessary?

will not get broken by Ohio State. The idea that Devin Gardner/Morris are shitting their pants at the thought of defensive linemen or pressure is ridiculous.

These are God damn football players. Their warmups involves getting concussions. Their celebrations involve concussing another teammate. If Shane starts he'll be fine.

Stop projecting your weakness and fear on true blue hardcore football players and let em play. I guarantee you Shane Morris would f'ing love leading the charge against OSU. If need be let him play.

There are reasons to not want Shane Morris to start. Fear isn't one of em. This is Michigan fergodsakes!

Years ago something was going terribly wrong at work and I said "things just can't get any worse" and I was quickly corrected by my boss who said "Wrong. Things can ALWAYS get worse."

If Devin is out things just got worse.  A lot worse.

Devin is lost right now. His confidence is rock bottom. If his first option is covered, he just seems to  freeze. He's been like that for several games. Devin appears indecisive and doesn't make quick enough decisions regarding his options, check downs or whether to tuck it and run. He had it during the first two games, but lost it since. It isn't all Gardner's fault, but the QB is the spark plug of the offense. If he's sputtering, and he clearly appears to be, then the whole offense sputters.

I don't a lot about Morris, but I would assume he knows the offense (for what it's worth). Morris is either the kind of kid that is chomping at the bit to get in and show what he can do, or he's withering on the sidelines, hoping the coach doesn't call his name.

If he's the former (which I tend to believe he is), then I say play him. My quarter says he can throw with more accuracy than Gardner and at this point may be able to read better what the defense is giving him.

The ND D-coordinator didn't have film showing how bad our O-Line was.  And didn't recognize and attack quickly enough in-game to pressure the short game.

With time to think, opposing coordinators can pressure and take away the short game.  If the line holds, then Gallon can have a field day up field like he did against Indiana.  The problem is that the line doesn't hold and the opposing coordinator knows how that frees him up to attack our glaring weakness.

Maybe the idea is the Ohio defense will be expecting a Devin look and gameplan for that and by putting in a different QB it catches them off guard.

Mizzou was killing SCar until they put in Shaw and suddenly SCar came back.

Couple of years ago Alabama was prepared for Jarrett Lee but then LSU suddenly put in Jordan Jefferson and LSU ended up beating Alabama.

Then again I could just be hoping too much and enjoying my post turkey bliss.

Purely based on that part of the thread quoting that Tweet. Borges' demeanor in the press conference clinched it for me. We will see another QB other than Devin. Thank God Shane got all of that experience in the CMU blow out and performed so well in the final moments of MSU . Will the line jump to Michigan +28?

This would give UM the built in excuse they need to blame a blow out loss on. This would help save face with ton of recruits that will be in attendance.

I'll be in "house" but I am afraid this is going to be ugly

Stealing the quote above from R.L. Burnside, one of the best Mississippi Blues Musicians.

If this is true, I'm hopefully optimistic for the Game. However, if this is true, I wish it wasn't posted, as it could tip the only card in our hand to the competition.

Finally. I feel like alan arkin just finding out the 6 got out of iran.
Think about the momentum if morris plays well. He shouldve been playing a month ago

Even though he is a freshman this could actually benefit us to some degree.

Ohio has no film on Morris and thus haven't been coached on how to prepare for him. We see this in the nfl all the time. Backups come in and light it up for a game or two until there is tape of their tendencies and then it's back to reality.

I'm not saying Morris will come in and dominate bc, let's face it he will be behind a below average line and the play calling will likely be extremely conservative.

Morris has great arm strength so I would light up the seams and call a few 4 vert all go's to keep the defense from stacking 8-9 in the box.

Let's go blue!!!

Only problem I see in that thinking is they have PLENTY of tape of Borges' offense which Morris will run.  That being said, I understand the point the point about the backup or unknown qb coming into a game and palying like a house on fire.  If this rumor is true maybe we can catch lightning in a bottle.
