META: Verboten topics
As a periodic reminder, there are a few topics that are never cool, even if they seem relevant. A brief list:
- Politics
- Anything by Ace Williams or ChatSports
- Bleacher Report (with the occasional, NARROW exception for some of their lead writers)
- Drew Sharp
- Mike Valenti
- Anyone buying or selling tickets (use the ticket spreadsheet)
- Anyone looking for a Michigan bar: too many cities, not enough MGoBoard.
- Politics
- Religion
- Politics
Jason Whitlock is veeeeeeeery close to joining that list.
COMMENCE FIRST AMENDMENT DEBATE.
November 7th, 2013 at 9:43 AM ^
a Sunday morning live blog so we can avoid all those network shows televised at that time that can distract us on other events of note that are happening in our country that can idirectly end up on this board.
We can call it- Meet the Pass.

Also all Freep links should come with the correct warnings.

COMMENCE FIRST AMENDMENT DEBATE.
NO POLITICS DAMMIT
Someone once told me I didn't understand irony, which was ironic because we were in a train station.
November 7th, 2013 at 10:07 AM ^
Well played.
November 7th, 2013 at 10:05 AM ^
and Jason Whitlock walk into a bar...
Not a good idea?

How about referrences to no-hitters while they are in progress. That gets you to the 7th circle of Bolivia.
November 7th, 2013 at 10:20 AM ^
Deservedly so Special K.

Are snowflakes threads before the end of regulation of Penn State games.....
November 7th, 2013 at 10:08 AM ^
Who's Drew Sharp?
November 7th, 2013 at 10:09 AM ^
Oh, you mean the human electron....got it.
November 7th, 2013 at 10:10 AM ^
I can see why you want to have a list of people (and thus their articles) to auto-ban.
That said, just saying "nothing from person X" could be viewed as a little simplistic. Yes, sometimes those authors above are just trolling, and in those cases we should avoid it. But once in a while, an author might actually have a point about something. We shouldn't be averse to discussing, say, a "reasonable" article by Drew Sharp, should such a thing ever come into existence.
While this is more of a pain for mods, it seems a little more thoughtful than the broad outlines suggested above. Perhaps that list is better viewed as a "likely to get deleted" kind of topic...
I agree about Politics, Religion, Politics, and Politics, and the tickets/bars ones.
November 7th, 2013 at 10:52 AM ^
RichRod, for example. But history tells us that some sources/topics will never ever ever end well, or simply can't be trusted, or we don't want to give them even one more click. That's why the list is pretty short.
November 7th, 2013 at 1:25 PM ^
Who is this "RichRod" of whom you speak?
November 7th, 2013 at 10:18 AM ^
We shouldn't be averse to discussing, say, a "reasonable" article by Drew SharpCoffee came out my nose
November 7th, 2013 at 4:43 PM ^
... a "reasonable" article by "Drew Sharp" ...
but yeah I guess I have no real point
November 7th, 2013 at 10:22 AM ^
Well, I knew Drew Sharp etc. But I didn't know Ace Williams. Apologies.
November 7th, 2013 at 11:26 AM ^
Drew Sharp is bad, but there is a special circle in hell for people who post Ace Williams articles to the MGoBoard.
November 7th, 2013 at 10:25 AM ^
...that connect Penn State, the Franklin Coverup Scandal and...Corey Feldman?
http://gizadeathstar.com/2012/07/some-musings-on-sandusky-penn-state-and-the-franklin-cover-up/
For realz thou, what's going on with Penn State? Why are the trials of Curley, Schulz, & Spanier still be delayed? What are they hiding? And why does Spanier continue to have top secret national security clearance?
There's still something fishy going on there.
November 7th, 2013 at 3:58 PM ^
That, and some of their sidebar stuff sent me deep down the rabbit hole today. I only just emerged, to have to scramble to get some real work done before closing time.
November 7th, 2013 at 6:11 PM ^
Yes. Wow. I need a bath after that. What just happened?
November 7th, 2013 at 7:15 PM ^
I've seen some of these allegations in the past, so it wasn't entirely new to me. It's a sick, sick world we live in.
November 7th, 2013 at 10:28 AM ^
Can we add any topics relating to him or his time here under those listed?
November 7th, 2013 at 10:29 AM ^
How come I wasn't on the same plane?

The airline doesn't fly to Canada.
November 7th, 2013 at 10:48 AM ^
Teaches me for saying anything negative about Rich Rod in this blog.
November 7th, 2013 at 11:26 AM ^
To be fair, that wasn't exactly why you were dinged (I believe I posted the reason in the thread this past weekend, but if not, my apologies), but your points are restored.
November 7th, 2013 at 10:30 AM ^
arguing with fearless leader on the list?
November 7th, 2013 at 10:40 AM ^
about arguing with fearless leader?

Ducks.
November 7th, 2013 at 11:02 AM ^
Unnecessary and random RR hate/love threads that will only cause the board to go into an uncontrollable and downward spiralling riot hasn't made the official list yet? I know it's far and few in between now, but with resentment slowly building up against the current staff, these type of posts may be making a strong comeback soon...
November 7th, 2013 at 12:46 PM ^
...just kidding.
...you hope.

Can I still make fun of people with degenerative brain disorders?
OH OH OH OH and fat jokes?!?? WHAT ABOUT FAT JOKES?!??!
What is Pat Summitts favorite place to eat?
Denim underwear pencil.
November 7th, 2013 at 11:28 AM ^
that an ESPN column about Michigan's head football coach is a forbidden topic. I didn't see the thread that was deleted, but even though I thought the column was ridiculous, it's pretty on-topic to me.
November 7th, 2013 at 11:31 AM ^
Doesn't make it something worth discussing. Ace Williams's stuff is on topic. Crazy racist rants about Michigan football players are on topic.
A sourceless hatchet piece attacking the character of kids is on topic. And off limits.
November 7th, 2013 at 12:11 PM ^
It's on ESPN. I agree with your characterization of it, but at a cetain point even baseless hatchet jobs are worth discussing (or bashing). And when a notable, albeit hacky, ESPN columnist pens one about Michigan's head coach, I think we're well into relevant and worth discussing.
But hey, it's your call. Hear no evil, see no evil.
November 7th, 2013 at 12:54 PM ^
November 7th, 2013 at 1:32 PM ^
but I can see the argument. If we can't dismantle Whitlock's piece and display its bloody, dismembered carcass for all to see, who will?
(It would degenerate, I know. But I still see the argument.)
November 8th, 2013 at 1:24 AM ^
isn't just some ESPN guy. He's a former Ann Arbor News Sports writer who spent his entire career in Ann Arbor trashing Michigan and talking about how horrible they were in every article he wrote for the paper. That was his entire shtick.
He was here for years, and he ripped Michigan apart, day after day after day after day, no matter what was going on. He's a joke, and he's not worth discussing.
November 7th, 2013 at 2:20 PM ^
But for stuff this bad, we try not to contribute in any way providing them with clicks.
November 7th, 2013 at 1:42 PM ^
It should be posted and locked. It's worth noting but nothing good would come of it. Sticking our head in the sand because people would start fighting about something doesn't mean there are no problems.
November 7th, 2013 at 11:29 AM ^
Extremely Appropriate Use of Term "Verboten." Maybe you could make Jsson wear a yellow star or something as well. God forbid he write something the readers here disagree with. Sig Heil!

First they came for the STRONG TAKES, and I said nothing, for my takes were not strong...

November 7th, 2013 at 11:31 AM ^
I don't get the hate for Valenti. Of course he's a Sparty fan, he went there....nothing wrong with that. He calls it like he sees it and is an honest guy about criticizing ANY team (including State). Sure, his personality might bother some, but he's a radio personality...he's gotta be loud
November 7th, 2013 at 11:40 AM ^
I prefer my sports radio personalities to be level-headed. And halfway intelligent.
