META: Verboten topics

Submitted by BiSB on

As a periodic reminder, there are a few topics that are never cool, even if they seem relevant. A brief list:

  • Politics
  • Anything by Ace Williams or ChatSports
  • Bleacher Report (with the occasional, NARROW exception for some of their lead writers)
  • Drew Sharp
  • Mike Valenti
  • Anyone buying or selling tickets (use the ticket spreadsheet)
  • Anyone looking for a Michigan bar: too many cities, not enough MGoBoard.
  • Politics
  • Religion
  • Politics

Jason Whitlock is veeeeeeeery close to joining that list.

a Sunday morning live blog so we can avoid all those network shows televised at that time  that can distract us on other events of note that are happening in our country that can idirectly end up on this board.

We can call it- Meet the Pass.

I can see why you want to have a list of people (and thus their articles) to auto-ban.

That said, just saying "nothing from person X" could be viewed as a little simplistic. Yes, sometimes those authors above are just trolling, and in those cases we should avoid it. But once in a while, an author might actually have a point about something. We shouldn't be averse to discussing, say, a "reasonable" article by Drew Sharp, should such a thing ever come into existence.

While this is more of a pain for mods, it seems a little more thoughtful than the broad outlines suggested above. Perhaps that list is better viewed as a "likely to get deleted" kind of topic...

I agree about Politics, Religion, Politics, and Politics, and the tickets/bars ones.

...that connect Penn State, the Franklin Coverup Scandal and...Corey Feldman?

For realz thou, what's going on with Penn State?  Why are the trials of Curley, Schulz, & Spanier still be delayed?  What are they hiding?  And why does Spanier continue to have top secret national security clearance?

There's still something fishy going on there.

Unnecessary and random RR hate/love threads that will only cause the board to go into an uncontrollable and downward spiralling riot hasn't made the official list yet?  I know it's far and few in between now, but with resentment slowly building up against the current staff, these type of posts may be making a strong comeback soon...

that an ESPN column about Michigan's head football coach is a forbidden topic.  I didn't see the thread that was deleted, but even though I thought the column was ridiculous, it's pretty on-topic to me.

It's on ESPN.  I agree with your characterization of it, but at a cetain point even baseless hatchet jobs are worth discussing (or bashing).  And when a notable, albeit hacky, ESPN columnist pens one about Michigan's head coach, I think we're well into relevant and worth discussing.

But hey, it's your call.  Hear no evil, see no evil.

isn't just some ESPN guy.  He's a former Ann Arbor News Sports writer who spent his entire career in Ann Arbor trashing Michigan and talking about how horrible they were in every article he wrote for the paper.  That was his entire shtick.

He was here for years, and he ripped Michigan apart, day after day after day after day, no matter what was going on.  He's a joke, and he's not worth discussing.

Extremely Appropriate Use of Term "Verboten."  Maybe you could make Jsson wear a yellow star or something as well.  God forbid he write something the readers here disagree with.  Sig Heil!

I don't get the hate for Valenti. Of course he's a Sparty fan, he went there....nothing wrong with that. He calls it like he sees it and is an honest guy about criticizing ANY team (including State). Sure, his personality might bother some, but he's a radio personality...he's gotta be loud
