Braylon Edwards upset his brother (Berkely Edwards) hasn't been offered.
Some tweets from braylon edwards suggest he's upset that Hoke and co. haven't offered his younger brother yet.
With the way recruiting is going though, don't forsee any point in the near future where an offer to berkeley is given.

I don't understand how my brother has the 8th fastes time in the country in the 60m, ran for 1800 yards last year and 20 and UofM wontcall

"Love my school and I played for coach hake but call my brother before its too late and you guys miss out like Lloyd would have ifnot for [coach hoke]"
If your referring to a former recruit complaining about a lack of an offer it was Matt Godin. He recieved his offer a good month after Hoke and Co. sent out offers to their "higher" targets.
(note: not an attack on Godin at all)
I believe Jenkins-Stone complained about it, too.
I kind of wish the he would get an offer. I realize that we are in on a lot of good prospects and have many positions we need good depth at, but man, that kid is fast. And we will need space players. It has been echoed before, but Norfleet's committment might have closed the door on him. I really don't want to see him at a rival B1G school (looking at you MSU).
I agree with this. You can't teach speed. He can always return kicks for four years if he doesn't work out anywhere else.
- I expected him to say/do something much less diplomatic
- It's not hard to understand how someone would want their younger sibling to experience something they're passionate about
- He's made plenty of missteps but never actively/maliciously/egregiously harmed the program
- When you're hitting rock bottom it's nice to feel like you have non-paid-entourage support
All that said, given how 2012 went down, not sure why they wouldn't just control what they can control e.g. do the work, avoid nonsense, do what they have to do until signing day
I agree with pretty much everything you said, but on point #3, let's not forget the epic whining he did about the NUMBER ONE JERSEY. Quite similar, in that he could have accomplished his purpose through direct (and quiet) contact with the head coach.
Really, in a twisted way I'm glad to see that he doesn't restrict his whining to those "outside Lloyd Carr's Michigan."
Aside: I wonder if the Freep will blow this up? They would have a few years ago.
Because clearly Hoke and co. have no idea what they're doing in recruiting.
First post summed it up perfectly.
Ha! I was thinking about this earlier today & POOF! Berkely will be a steal for whoever grabs him.
Already have Hayes/Norfleet.....not sure where Young Mr Edwards would fit in. Not to mention I wouldn't be shocked that Mr. Stan Edwards has no doubt put in a good word and is clearly letting it play out unlike his oldest son.
Either way Braylon really needs to keep his mouth shut and work and getting a job in the NFL, when a bad passing team cuts you then you clearly have your own problems to worry about.
Imagine if his bro gets an offer. Will Braylon bitch if he doesn't get the #1 jersey?
when it comes to player evaluation, I'd put more trust in Hoke and his staff than a guy with his own fragrance*.
*sorry I meant "war cologne"
Okay, I hope we don't fall into Urban Meyer's dangerous path of not offering serious alumni child talent early, just to make sure there is still good will between the current coaching staff and former players. Just a thought with the McCray situation from today which turned out well for us.
Difference is, McCray had a very impressive offer list despite not being offered by Meyer. Braylon's brother only has an offer from a MAC team. Nobody else. I hope he ends up in this class, but it won't be because of Braylon's bitching.
IMHO, Braylon is more about himself than anyone else. If he loved his program, he'd shut up and keep things behind closed doors. Guy has made an ass out of himself more times than not. From a public stink about the #1 jersey, to "Lloyd Carr's UofM", to complaining about Browns fans, to this and everything in between. Love what you did while you were at Michigan, but since then, you'd done very little to make your Michigan brethren proud of you.
I shouldn't say anything at all. I hardly ever listened, but I think I will this time.
Please tell me he's shaved that damn beard.
I've seen Edwards play in person a few times. A solid young athlete, but Michigan would not be the right choice for him. He would very seldomly see the field.
Braylon don't make me get out of this chair and shut your mouth for you!
Anyway old Braylon needs to realize we very likely will have the top overall recruiting class in the country. Sorry we can't offer every legacy recruit especially one with a lone offer of CMU...maybe if he has a great senior season and we have a scholarship open at the end he can play here...otherwise walk on if you really love Michigan.
When's the last time Braylon said anything constructive about Michigan. It's always whining and complaining. No one cares about your opinion anymore Braylon. Part of me wants to give the #1 jersey to a third-stringer on defense just so I can hear about Braylon's temper tantrum
That would be funny, but AC doesn't deserve to be punished for this big mouth's antics.
I get the Braylon hate, but the guy is just looking out for his brother. Braylon didn't handle this the right way, but we don't have to crucify him for it
(I'm a tad bit biased because I see those TD catches against MSU everytime I hear his name)
I can appreciate Braylon wanting to help his little brother out, but these are the kinds of conversations that are best behind closed doors, not putting it on blast on Twitter. I'm sure Braylon can call Hoke if he really wants to reach him, and have a real conversation about his brother, instead of airing out his laundry in the national media. Like others have said, the pickup of Norfleet hurt Berkley's chances of landing a M offer, since their body type and style are more similar than a Wyatt Shallman or a Ty Isaac.
It's March 6th. Calm down Braylon. It's not unheard of for a soon to be high school senior to show up a camp, bust his ass and show the coaches what they might not be seeing in film. If Berkley is sporting Big Ten offers on August 1st then we can talk. . . or donate $20 million to buy out the remainder of the Adidas contract and have the entire MGoBlogesphere pounding on Coach Hoke's door. Just sayin'
Can't Braylon & Stan pay for little brother to go to UM? Let his brother be a walk-on. This has been done before . . . has Braylon heard of Kovacs? Kovacs worked his butt off, walked on the team not once but twice, and is now a leader of the defense, and a recipient of a full scholarship. If Berkeley is all that, he'll win a scholarship soon enough.
^^^Pretty much this. I'd love to have Berkley on this team but the numbers game probably won't allow it to happen through a scholarship. If Braylon really loved the school he would pay for Berkley to come here out of pocket so the team would have an extra scholarship (even if Berkley was a 4 or 5*). We could use him in the slot or the backfield or special teams, even though Hayes, Norfleet, and Edwards would be a little redundant but I think it's worth the shot. I think he eventually ends up here one way or another. If RR was still here then Berkley would already be looking forward to years of Rita's nacho dip.
A better option for a sibling of an alumni would have to be Amani Bass.
that he exists and is the younger brother of Antonio and just so happens to have Amani Toomer's first name.
I loved Bass and was devastated with his injury. Will never forget Antonio. I hope his bro can play here.
Braylon is only hurting his brother's recruitment with that behavior.
What a loser.
Nothing wrong with that. Though he could clean up his tweets in general. He should be giving props to his bro and looking to give him some htis on rivals, etc.
You don't need a scholarship to play for Michigan. Why doesn't he pay for his brother's education and tell him to walk on? If he's as good as Braylon says, he won't even have to pay all 4 years because he'll earn a scholarship.
I don't really hate on Braylon for this... His dad loves Michigan and Braylon loves Michigan. I don't think I would be happy if I felt that I did so much for my school when I was there and then to have the "family goggles" on, probably thinking his brother is better than what he actually is, seeing Michigan's class filling up, and not seeing your brother go to a place that you love; I could see myself being pretty mad about it. I wouldn't have handled it this way, even a tweet as simple as "Hoke, offer Berk before it's too late!" I'd be mad though too.
Braylon loves Braylon...
Braylon Edwards - always upset about something.
this never would have happened at Rich Rodriguez's UofM.
I can only weep with tears of joy.
Stan Edwards will no doubt straighten all of this out tomorrow during a WTKA call-in. Braylon probably misquoted himself on Twitter.
I agree with this. I don't see how getting on this board and piling on Braylon is the right thing to do here. He obviously feels badly for his brother. Have some empathy people. I told my ten year old about this and his response, "I can see why he feels that way, it's his little brother." There's a high road here and there's the road that's being taken. If you're a recruit and you have a little brother coming up through the ranks and read this post, would it make you think twice about our fan base?
This is far too simplified. Braylon might feel that his little brother is being under-recruited, but he should also realize that Michigan football scholarships are awarded based on the individual merits of the player being recruited. Frankly, his younger brother would probably rather earn that scholarship for himself (or not) than "earn" a scholarship because of his last name or his family's legacy at the school. And I think in the long run, that's a good lesson for Berkley.
So Braylon's personal sentiments (my brother should get a scholarship!) are understandable, but his expression of those sentiments is not appropriate. Public whining doesn't do anybody any good, and least of all his brother, who is now the subject of (probably) unwanted attention.
I don't think anyone is saying "OMG berkeley suckz azz" on this board; people are piling on Braylon because he acted in an immature manner when there were other outlets available. Braylon is a fairly big donor, borderline legend player at M, and played for the current head coach. I highly doubt he can't call and get Hoke on the line to discuss scouting his younger brother for a scholarship.
And actually, if Braylon had gone about things this way I would expect Hoke to show Braylon the respect of sending a scout out to a game or two of his and making a show of it if it wasn't too out of the way, and probably extend a preferred walkon offer (seriously, what would we have to lose?). This whining and crying in public diminishes any obligation the program should feel towards Braylon on the matter, IMO.
This is good discussion. And I realize my reaction and appeal for empathy was based upon the reaction of my child, which parents tend to do. I don't like when Braylon goes out of his way and acts entitled or jaded. I think it is below him. But the, "his brother needs to play better" comments and the like are not productive. We don't know what's going on and maybe should discuss motives and "feelings" rather than insult our past beloved and his family. That's my point. I mean, its not the Borens were talking about here./s
It would involve Braylon more in the program, when it's best for M football to distance itself from clowns such as himself.
Actually, Braylon went to Lloyd Carr's University of Michigan. Carr didn't get his own university. But SDSU was known as Brady Hoke University because of Antwan Applewhite for about a month and a half. Then January 11th, 2011 happened.
How come when I read this the first thing I thought of is the time you dropped that 4th down pass against ohio
so, SO sad.
It's what I remember of Braylon as well.
Braylonfest will always go down as the singular "man-among-boys" game, but that OSU debacle showed me not to put all hope on BE's shoulders...
remember his drop/ sure TD against USC in the Rose Bowl. He made up a lot in his senior year, but I remember wondering what the hype was in his younger days. I thought he grew up a lot that last year in AA, with his renewed focus. It's too bad he has seemd to regress.
you brought this to my attention Braylon. I'm just sorry you had to tell everyone else as well.
