“I want to personally assure you that U-M Athletics will offer its complete cooperation to the NCAA in this matter.

At the University of Michigan, all of us are committed to the highest standards of ethics and integrity for all members of our community. This is the same expectation I have of all coaches, staff, and student-athletes.

Given the ongoing investigation, I'll have no further comments at this time.”

Just once I wish he'd come out with a strong statement that tells the NCAA to kick rocks and focus on the egregious violations elsewhere.

It's almost always a terrible idea to be confrontational with the regulatory body/organization/agency in charge of regulating whatever business/organization you are a part of. Be it the health department inspecting your restaurant, or the NCAA investigating your athletics program. Even if you think they are just out to f*** you.

That is as bland of a statement as it can get.

So, NCAA can go around making statements to everyone but our AD has to keep quiet. Double standard.

More likely Warde has no idea what is true and what isn't and does want to lean too far out either way.  A prompt but bland statement shows people he is pro-active but not rushing to judgement (aka aware, but not fully aware).  "Safer" play for him and the school, but not exactly supportive of his coach.

Unfortunately, this investigation will certainly put Harbaugh's contract extension on hold.  And when things settle, it just may be too late- Harbaugh may just had enough of this nonsense and bolt for the NFL.

We have to let the process play out, but if there's no clear evidence of wrongdoings, I hope we take this opportunity to really stick it to the NCAA.  I have my doubts, but we shall see.

Take your balls off the mantel for once in your life, Warde, you big pussy.

How about even an OUNCE of support to your team and your coach.  Too much to ask from our AD, I guess.

Why would you expect him to support his coach?  He never has - not ONE TIME.  He even made sure Jim paid the fine the conference gave him for venting after 2016.  Warde fully agreed with the conference.  Don't get me started on all the other times Warde directly sided with 'opponents' (if you will for lack of better word) to whatever Harbaugh was saying or doing.

The first time Warde backs Harbaugh in a controversial situation will be the first.

He’s the AD, it’s his job to be proactive. Manuel should have done a comprehensive internal review regarding program compliance as part of the response to burgergate.  If he didn’t, he should be fired for incompetence.  If he did, and this came up, he should have done something about it.  If he did, and nothing came up, he should come out and say so and defend the program aggressively. He should be on point and be responsible and accountable.  Any allegation regarding prior behavior is on Warde as well.

Fuck right off with this shit. Zero backbone. This is a statement that says nothing and accomplishes nothing. Warde is failing this athletic department repeatedly. Awful PR to just, say nothing here.

The NCAA has no hand. They are holding a steaming turd and yet some people here seem to think it's pocket aces. Let's think about this, for just a second. The only technically nefarious thing being insinuated here is the notion that Michigan could have sent staffers to opponents' games to steal signs. That's technically against the rules. It is also something that whiney NCAA coaches have complained about for years, if not decades. No team has ever been convicted and punished for it though, because how the fuck do you prove it? People are allowed to attend football games. Does the NCAA have a video of a Michigan staffer, attending an off-site game, holding up a camera pointed at the sideline? Fucking of course not. Even if they did, in today's world it would be with a personal phone camera. Literally tens of thousands of people in the stands would be doing the same thing though, because that's what people in 2023 do. How do you prove that someone taking a video on their personal phone at football game is doing so for nefarious purposes? You can't. Fuck the NCAA and fuck Warde Manuel.

Given the potential riff between Harbaugh and Warde, would it shock anyone for someone who might not be totally "in the know" to not put themselves out on a ledge?

Not saying the allegations are true, but when stuff like this happens you go to the person and ask them, "are we fucked" before going out and putting your own reputation on the line by planting a flag in the ground saying this never happened.

I love my father and would defend him based off our close relationship alone. But if we were estranged and a report came out that he might have killed a guy, I wouldn't run to the newspapers to say "my dad definitely did not launder millions for the cartel and I'd bet my career on it." I'd have to at least check first.

Not that Warde has been a great AD or has no responsibility in the Harbaugh relationship, but his response isn't crazy.

He absolutely could have said something that is supportive of Jim but doesn't deny anything. For example, "I have always found Jim to be a good and honorable man and these allegations are inconsistent with the man I know." And at the same time he could also have said all those things about cooperating with the NCAA if he wanted to say that stuff too.

Let's be honest, the coaches you employ are a reflection of YOU, even if you didn't hire them. Warde looks bad with his complete lack of expressed support for Harbaugh.

Well, in this instance we don't even know if Harbaugh is accused of wrongdoing.  Maybe it was an assistant doing it without others' knowledge?

Defending Harbaugh would be giving away that he is under investigation.  For all we know, the NCAA didn't even name anybody?

But, I will say this looks a lot like when Ono had to step in on the contract negotiations and give Harbaugh his due praise because Manuel wouldn't.
