Trey Burke NBA Destination?
My roommates and I have been having an interesting discussion on which teams actually have a need for a point guard in the upcoming NBA Draft. Going through most of the lower-tier NBA teams, most have drafted a high quality point guard in recent years. It seems that the NBA has had an influx of high-quality young point guards, and we're just having trouble finding a team that desperately needs a player like Trey.
Trust me, I am absolutely cherishing the time we have left watching Trey, I just thought I might get some interesting conversation going on this day while snowed in.
A couple teams that seem to have a sort of need for a high-quality PG seem to be the Rockets, the Jazz, the Suns and the Magic. But I was just wondering where you guys see him going/where you want to see him go?

Would be epic to see him running the point after Kobe and Nash retire in L.A.

Out of the NBA? He's 22 years old; 6"4 point guard and has played his way into the rotation at times. Though it might not be with the Lakers, think he's got plenty of potential left. You don't need an elite skill to be a roster guy.
EDIT: This guy might not be Stephen A. Smith, but he writes for a Lakers blog and disagrees with you.

He'll definately be on a roster. He'll be able to pick his team to some degree, if LA doesn't sign him, and go there to compete as a backup PG, which he should be able to do b/c he'll come cheap. Some team will go after him. He's a youngster that has improved, is cheap, and is a versatile guard who can play some defense and has some length.
February 27th, 2013 at 2:45 PM ^
I don't think he'll have his pick of teams. Whichever team is going to sign him is taking on a project. Morris hasn't really proven to be good at anything, outside of being tall for a PG. That doesn't get you your pick of teams. It allows to you maybe pick from the 3-4 teams that want to take a flier on an unproven PG that's going to be a project.

He won't be a hot commodity but he's going to have a few opportunities. He has a few things you can't teach and he's going to be cheap. I'll predict that a team with a proven point guard and very little cap space snatches him up to compete with another young guy to be the primary backup point guard. And when I say primary backup point guard, I mean spell Chris Paul for 5-10 minutes a game as he finishes his cup of Gatorade.
Said team (Clippers in my scenario) get a low-risk backup with some potential and experience. He won't have any guarantees, and the Clips aren't counting on him to become the PG of the future.

What has he done to convince you of that?
February 27th, 2013 at 1:29 PM ^
That. I wanted to be politcally correct and not say it...but Burke is the best prospect to come out of Ann Arbor in years. Years. Morris, not so much.

Since Jamal Crawford 13 years ago

The way it's been going so far I think the possibility of that happening is remote.

LA traded away their first round pick this year, so unless they can sign and trade Dwight before the draft, this won't happen. If they do S&T Dwight, they won't be looking to draft a backup PG I'm guessing.

Knicks would be a perfect fit for Burke, though they may draft too low to get him. Felton is okay but won't be there long, same obviously for Kidd. Would be good for Burke because they will be a good team.

The Rockets seemed the most logical choice to me...I just can't picture Trey in a Rockets jersey...and I'd honestly just like to see him on a team that I'd want to root for him.
February 27th, 2013 at 1:24 PM ^
I would love to see him with the Rockets. To me, they're a franchise that has always been easy to cheer for. Their championship teams had some of my favorite players of all time: Hakeem, Sam Cassell, and Bob Horry. And they were coached by Rudy T. I wish they had played Jordan's bulls though.

I agree, it would be awesome to see Trey come to Houston. I don't think we have had anyone come to Houston from Michigan since Mo Taylor. I miss Rudy T.
[EDIT] Forgot we had J. Howard on the squad for a couple of years.

Im confused by this post, only a handful of NBA teams are set at the PG position OKC,CHI,BOS,BK,LAC,MEMP,PHI,POR,GS,and maybe WASH. Even those teams Boston was looking to trade Rondo, CLippers haave to resign Paul, Chicago is unsure about Rose health, rumors are that OKC is starting to believe Westbrook is a SG, People say Brooklyn is unhappy with Williams shape, and Wall hasnt shown much this year returning from his injury. Early talks are the Pistons are hoping Marcus Smart the top PG prospect falls to them and they just drafted Knight 2 years ago. Every team in the NBA needs a solid back up aswell, 30 teams could use Trey Burke either as a starter or a role player.

Pretty sure the Cavs are all set with Kyrie Irving, too. That kid is going to be a stud for years if he can stay healthy.
February 27th, 2013 at 1:58 PM ^
I cant believe I forgot about Kyrie, even then they could use a back up
February 27th, 2013 at 2:25 PM ^
But Trey Burke is good enough to be a starter, not Kyrie's back up.
February 27th, 2013 at 6:29 PM ^
I could be wrong, but isn't Dion Waiters a combo guard that they expect to play both guard spots?
February 27th, 2013 at 2:41 PM ^
Denver is set with Ty Lawson and Andre Miller as a backup.
I think this draft is weak and he ends up at the backend or just outside the lottery. Hello Lakers. /s
My best is the Jazz.
February 27th, 2013 at 2:44 PM ^
Except Andre Miller turns 37 next month and makes 8 million this season
February 27th, 2013 at 2:55 PM ^
You mentioned teams that do not neet a point guard and I gave you another. Denver.
February 27th, 2013 at 2:44 PM ^
but they apparently have a pretty good chance of resigning Jose Calderon (reportedly for 7 mil a year which is a step down from his current contract. Plus, they have Brandon Knight and Will Bynum though they're moving Knight off the ball.

Im hoping Dumars uses the money he freed up on a star player
February 27th, 2013 at 3:12 PM ^
Have faith that Dumars will make the wrong decision.
February 27th, 2013 at 5:23 PM ^
They drafted Marquis Teague for a reason, and it wasn't to back up an undersized rookie.

I just looked at a website called wikipedia.org which says that Trey Burke is from Columbus! Is there a narrative we can construct out of this?
February 27th, 2013 at 4:13 PM ^
Ok, I'm not sure if I'm missing the sarcasm, but I'll bite. If you didn't know that they were friends and ex high teammates, you must not have watched a single game this year because they talk about it constantly.....
February 27th, 2013 at 5:16 PM ^
Sarcasm = missing. Unless you were being doubly sarcastic, and now I'm the fool.

Anywhere but the Detroit Lions. I wouldn't wish that on Trey Burke.

reportedly wants to stay at Detroit. He just moved his family to Detroit area and is willing to take a paycut to stay with them (rumor is 7 mil a year). If they resign him, PG is off the board.
February 27th, 2013 at 2:52 PM ^
I like your optimism.
If Burke ended up in Detroit I might actually watch a little NBA every now and then.
February 27th, 2013 at 3:25 PM ^
Detroit does not need a PG. They need a SF aka Shabazz Muhammad. Jose is a good fit for Detroit and they have plenty of guards with Knight, Stucket, Jose, and Will. They won't draft another guard in the first round. The Bucks suggestion was a good one.

I want to enjoy Trey as long as I can. There still is a very small chance he could come back, but I don't see it.
I'd love to see him as a Piston so I can go see him play.
