Spike to PU
Excited to announce that I'll be playing my 5th year for Purdue University!! #BoilerUp
— Spike Albrecht (@SpikeAlbrecht) May 3, 2016
It's like Ace said if we leave the scholarship open again that will be a failure. There's a lot of uncertainty with Spike but he's certainly much better than air especially if we have another injury situation this year.
There really isn't such a thing as banking a scholarship in basketball since there is so much roster turnover and uncertainty as to who will be on your team from year to year.
Anyway, I'm happy for Spike that he will get to play if that's what he wants to do.
I wish Spike the best. It really was a fun time with him here - he'll always have that Michigan degree and we'll always have some great highlights from that championship run.
I don't know that we've had a solid update on him healthwsie lately - I would hope that he got a chance to see the court again, even if he couldn't do it every day.

Wish he would have left the B10, but good luck to him. Would have liked to root for him at his next stop, but he's an opponent now.
Yeah that sure happened in the Big Ten tourney...
27-0 Run. In Ann Arbor.
TWENTY SEVEN TO ZERO RUN. We literally couldn't score for 40% of the game.
Last I checked, Michigan won the game that mattered most. In Indy. A virtual IU home game.
Your username shows that you have no objectivity in this discussion.
Objectivity in terms of what?
Thinking that Max would've been an asset to our team last year and that we made a mistake in letting him go? Because if you disagree with that you're objectively wrong.
Or that IU had a better season than us? Because they won the Big Ten, absolutely slaughtered us with our full home court advantage and then lost to us on a last second shot with an 75% home crowd. They still had a way better season than we did by any objective matter. That Big Ten tournament game didn't take away the banner they get to hang for last season.
I can't believe Spike will be playing for another B1G team. This makes my heart very sad.
So what happened to that congenital hip issue that made it difficult for him to play competitive basketball again?
Or was that our program trying to clear a roster slot?

Albrecht had previously told Beilein that he was was available for bench minutes at “60 to 70 percent” health, but as long-term health concerns became more tangible, the mindset changed.
Beilein likened the injuries to a concussion — one that doesn’t physically prevent an athlete from playing, but that poses massive health risk if not given the proper time and attention required to heal. “He’s going to have children, he’s going to have grandchildren,” Beilein said. “Your hips are pretty important to you.”
Albrecht’s family considerations don’t just pertain to the future. “It’s a genetic thing,” Albrecht said. “My dad has really bad hips. He needs two hip replacements. I sure as hell didn’t want to go down that road. … I’m not saying that it could have gotten there, but you never know.”

Was really hoping it wouldn't be another Big Ten school. Good luck, Spike. Thanks for the memories.

Cool

1) released him without a guarantee someone would take the roster spot
2) restricted his release and took all the national heat in the press
3) walked back the restriction and now spike will be suiting up for a conference opponent

nut up. Why go back on those comments for receiving a little heat? He is the cleanest coach in the country, probably literally, and everyone would have forgotten about this negative press in a week or so anyways. The only saving grace I can think of for Beilein is if Purdue really had the academic program that interested Spike the most, after all, most coaches are in the profession of raising young men, not winning games. BUT WHEN I PAY MONEY MYSELF I WANT TO WIN GAMESSSSS! AAAHHHHHH!!!!!!

but, barring injury, doubt we'll miss him. I bet we see a B- version of him next season with the surguries.
I fucking hate Purdue basketball.

That's absurd. Do you think Biefeldt missing had zero impact as well?
If Spike ends up being healthy, it will expose Sanderson even more as a fraud.

Spike snake-oiled by Purdue.
Karma is a bitch.
Belien botched this big time...I do cannot imagine seeing him in a Purdue uniform and not playing for Michigan...so wrong
I don't like to see him at a conference rival, but this is probably a win-win situation. He wasn't going to beat out Walton and quite possibly not Simpson, either.
I like Spike. He has good floor vision and is a fine shooter. But even before his double hip surgeries, he struggled to break down his man off the dribble on offense and to stay in front of his man on defense. He was a good situational guy; he was not someone you wanted to play heavy minutes. And that was before both of his hips were operated on.
I like Spike and will never forget him, but with Walton and X.Simpson at the point next year we have to move on. I think we are all going to be very happy with what X. Simpson can do for us next year.
He sits only about 2 feet away from it fergodsake. Perfect view - heck he can almost touch it if he swings his arms just a fit further
Our basketball program's biggest problem is losing 5th year players (big deal), whereas MSU basketball has seen 3 former players in trouble with the law in the last month. I think Beilein knows what he is doing.

Whats up with that extra scholly now ? We still goign hard after Giannis's Brother ?
No, and we were never going hard after him, for reasons unknown
I was never a big fan, however, I just wish that he transferred to a school that isn't on our schedule next year.
I was hoping PU somehow meant University of Pennsylvania.
