Saban: Satellite camps like U-M's are 'ridiculous'

Submitted by umbig11 on

We knew they would be crying foul. Now Saban joins in.

"If we're all going to travel all over the country to have satellite camps, you know, how ridiculous is that?" Saban said Tuesday evening, before the Crimson Caravan stop in Huntsville, Ala., as reported by al.com. "I mean, we're not allowed to go to all-star games, but now we're going to have satellite camps all over the country. So it doesn't really make sense."

So is oversigning, cutting players to open spots for new recruits that you think are better, and forcing medical redshirts on players because you want more recruiting spots open.

Perhaps Mr. Saban should condider his own actions before commenting on the actions of others. IMHO

Not a very strong argument by Saban.  Sounds more like an argument as to why they should be able to go to all-star games, not why they shouldn't be able to do satellite camps.

to be an uncomfortable guy to be around at times.  I have no idea what that look is trying to convey, but it is clear that utter and complete disgust one of the primary ingredients.  It takes some kind of person to even feel comfortable giving another person that look.  Too funny.

That's part of it, I honestly think he makes that face quite a bit when someone says something that just sounds totally unreasonable to him. In the case of Jameis' explanation of stealing crab legs that might be my face too, but he makes it quite a bit...just seems to stare right through the person.

His stare with mouth slightly open is probably my favorite expression.

He has no arguement other than keep 'em on the plantation.  God fordbid any rule in the NCAA benefit the kids. Poor, under the radar kids from Alabama get to drive a couple of hours for instruction and exposure to a great school and great coaching?  This is a bad thing??? If the NCAA gets rid of this and not oversigning I am done.

of our "first down" against South Carolina.  The only difference was that ours was clearly marked short and not changed but they gave us the first down while staring at a clearly short football.  That is still one of the most odd calls I can remember in a game.

That was crazy.  My only explanation is that Spurrier said something real naughty and the refs felt like they couldn't change their ruling after that.  Flimsy theory but I can't think of any other reason for them to rule that way.

nuts, he put his finger in between the football and the marker.  It was really strange.  It was like the ref forgot the definition of a first down for a moment.  You are right, I can't think of a reason other than what you have stated that the call would not just be changed immediately.

The camps probably gain us an advantage with a few dozen Power 5 caliber recruits tops. We're not even guaranteed one person by doing these.

OTOH, I think it was shown that Bama and/or other SEC schools are basically getting 5 classes into 4 by oversigning and cutting - excuse me, medical redshirting - players. They're still waaayyyy out in front.

Maybe he's just being consistent...SEC doesn't like to travel north for games so why would they want to travel north for camps?  Of course, the B1G is willing to travel south for games and camps.

Anyway, Saban was going to comment more but he heard that a 3* skinned his needed and required some evaluation.
