Potential 2015 National Championship Host Cities Narrowed to Six
ESPN has sources reporting that the 2015 national championship bidding will be limited to six cities: Glendale, AZ, Miami, FL, New Orleans, LA, Pasadena, CA, Arlington, TX and Atlanta, GA. Four of those are current BCS sites, with the Cotton Bowl and Chick-fil-A bowls being included as well.
With more time before the 2016 final, more cities are expected to be considered. ESPN lists those cities as Indianapolis, Detroit, St. Louis, Orlando, Fla., Houston, San Diego, Jacksonville, Fla., and Tampa, Fla.

gonna be a Southern city.
September 25th, 2012 at 1:07 PM ^
Well, Pasadena is the northernmost city being considered. Pasadena is a pretty northern city, right?
September 25th, 2012 at 1:30 PM ^
I wouldn't consider the City of Pasadena either pretty or northern.

actually, as I used to live in SoCal and had friends there. Not saying there aren't nice areas, but there's some very not nice areas to be sure. As someone who has spent time there, I would say that you've probably only visited as a tourist.
September 25th, 2012 at 4:33 PM ^
Yes, because all of the other cities are just beautiful everywhere *cough* New Orleans, Detroit, Atlanta, Miami *cough cough*
The sites for the Championship game aren't going to show off the 9th ward of New Orleans, the scum of inner city Atlanta, or the so-called "very not nice areas" of Pasadena.
September 25th, 2012 at 5:25 PM ^
the part where I mentioned anything about any other city, which makes your point irrelevant to the conversation. It really got blown out of hand as I was just making a joke on the fact of calling Pasadena a pretty northern city, where pretty was used to mean fairly or somewhat, not as a descriptor of the actual city. Bravo for your reading comprehension skills though.

Haha now we all know that you can't spell "esque"

Good I can start making travel plans.
September 25th, 2012 at 1:17 PM ^
to mind were Miami, NOLA, Phoenix, LA, ATL, and Dallas. Sad...

Good to hear about the bidding system. It'd be nice to see cities like Detroit, Indy, and maybe even St. Louis get the right to bid on the game.
Still, its probably going to end up in SEC country most years.
September 25th, 2012 at 2:12 PM ^
St Louis is SEC country now... Indy will probably get it at some point, though. I don't know how, but they're pulling in major events (Super Bowl, Final Four, etc) like gangbusters.
September 25th, 2012 at 1:20 PM ^
I doubt Detroit is ever going to host it. It was a stretch getting the Super Bowl, and we probably only got it because we had opened up a new stadium (or were going to) and leagues love rewarding that.
September 26th, 2012 at 1:25 AM ^
It wasn't a stretch. FORD put up big bucks and Detroit will actually be the host of the Super Bowl again before 2020 I believe.

Moar Chicago! Snow uber alles!!!
September 26th, 2012 at 11:40 AM ^
Snow... SEC wouldn't allow it.

Wheres Ann Arbor at? Big Chill redux but with football this time!

I fully expect that Michigan will be a national chamionship contender. That would be nice to play in a home national championship game.
September 25th, 2012 at 3:00 PM ^
Kudos to you for fully being able to expect that, considering that exactly 0 of the non RS-senior players on that team have stepped foot on campus and most of them haven't even been recruited yet.

To loosely quote Brady Hoke: "The expectation is for the position"
September 25th, 2012 at 2:33 PM ^
I would love to see Pasedena host. It is arguably the most tradition rich college football stadium, and it hosting the first championship game of a new era would be a nice bridge between old and new imo.
September 25th, 2012 at 2:51 PM ^
It would be totally awesome to see this game in the coolest stadium ever, the Toronto Skydome. Toronto is a really nice city (not too far from Michigan either) with a good downtown and the ultra-modern Skydome even features a roof that can be opened if the weather is good...like if there are picture-perfect big white fluffy snowflakes falling.

To make it fair to everyone for 2015, they should simply host the game at the average of the latitudes and longitudes of the cities which have been authorized to bid on it, which would put the 2015 game in the ranchlands just north of Cameron, Texas, about halfway between Waco and College Station.
I do like the open bidding system going forward - it is about as fair can be at that point. There are quite a few cities north of 34 N (Pasadena) which could easily accommodate the game and the fans and media that would come with it and put on a good show as well.

Sorry to jack the thread, but this isn't really thread-worthy so I figured I'd post it here:
I saw a couple of days ago that someone said there were rumors going around that Gardner has broken his collarbone and will be out for the year, but they didn't provide any source. Has anyone heard about Gardner's status? Will he be fine for the Purdue game?

He's actually throwing a shotput, but the face is hilarious and I it would be too hard to see if I included the whole pic. But yeah, fiber does wonders.

Ha! I googled "shotput face," clicked on the first link and found this:

Hoke said he was fine today during the Big Ten teleconference. As per usual, take with a grain of salt, but it looks like he'll be healthy for Purdue.

Thank you for including "Fla." next to Orlando, Jacksonville and Tampa. I had no idea those cities were in Florida...

Since I am moving to San Diego soon, and Michigan will obviously be in every national championship from 2015 on, I am hoping for some Southern California sites.
September 26th, 2012 at 3:24 PM ^
St. Louis, Indianpolis (although because the B1G Championship is here not sure if they would do that) Detroit etc.
