the just released schedules were a flat-out statement that the B10 doesn't believe SOS will matter in playoff selection

| 3 weeks 9 hours ago | Logo & name |
Personally, I have no problem calling it the College Football Playoff. People have been screaming for a "playoff" for years so that is exactly what they get. Clean, simple and accurate...much more enticing than BCS (Bowl Championship Series). And my first take on the logo wasn't spikes but rather compass points with a football on top. I actually think that might fit with a vision where the major conferences eventually eventually re-align into 4 majors with each champion entering the playoff as a defacto regional champion. The days of two teams from the same conference playing for the MNC are probably (and hopefully) over. |
| 3 weeks 1 day ago | That poll sucks. |
I don't have a TV or cable and I watch all of my sports at the bar. They need to create a survey that tells me how much of the cost of my rum & cokes goes to sports before I'll give them any credit. |
| 5 weeks 2 days ago | OT is a stupid tag. |
It could just as easily be interpreted as "on topic" as "off topic". All that is really needed is a succinct title and anybody with a brain can decide whether they want to read it or not. |
| 5 weeks 3 days ago | Ugh... |
...Clinton & Webber? Can we get a shout out to Coach Rich Rodriguez too while we are at it? Claude Lemieux, you in the house? Unabomber? Saddam? Hello, anybody there? |
| 5 weeks 3 days ago | But... |
...we won! We're not "talking" about uniforms, we are celebrating the victory of our team. The important thing is that it was an all-Adidas final and we couldn't lose. Like I said, almost perfect except we should've opted for the sleeves. |
| 5 weeks 3 days ago | Loss? What loss? |
I'm pretty sure last night was all win for Team Adidas. If only we had gone with the sleeves, it would have been even more perfect! |
| 5 weeks 4 days ago | Yeah... |
...it just so happens that I spent the weekend drinking 15 liters of champagne too! Go Blue! |
| 6 weeks 16 hours ago | Good luck Ace! |
On bit of a tangent, is it confessional week for sportswriters or something? I just the Bissinger piece where he admitted a Gucci leather addiction. |
| 6 weeks 1 day ago | Wow. |
Hanson has been a rock. It'll be weird to see Detroit without him. May he have a pleasant retirement. |
| 6 weeks 1 day ago | Congrats Trey! |
Maybe I've missed it, but has there been any discussion of Burke's NBA potential around here? I'm kind of thinking the Pistons should grab him. He's got the talent and the guts that kind of remind me of Isaiah Thomas (on the court). But I'm no basketball expert so I'm curious to hear what others think. |
| 6 weeks 1 day ago | Sad... |
...to see him go but he left a great legacy with his writing. May he rest in peace. |
| 6 weeks 1 day ago | Hey... |
...if Kenny Powers can make it back to the bigs then why not Valverde? Let's hope he sucks his dream's cock. Seriously, if Valverde somehow makes it back to the closer role with the Tigers it will be because he earned it by playing well. That wouldn't be such a bad storyline. And if he really does suck then it's doubtful we'll even see him in Detroit at all. The upside is that maybe he saves 30-40 games and the downside is that he'd probably only get to blow couple before getting canned. |
| 6 weeks 1 day ago | I was about to... |
..say oh fuckin shit in bold cap letters until I read it's a minor league deal. |
| 6 weeks 1 day ago | Personally... |
...I can't stand the current corporate worship culture of the college uniforms. I hate the "Team Adidas" look and I don't want the "Team Nike" look either. Really just want basic Michigan uniforms. Considering how much money the Athletic Department is making these days, I wonder why they can't just manufacture something themselves. Would it really be that difficult to source some material and hire a few dozen workers to stitch them together? I'm not the the jersey buying type of fan but I would be far more compelled to spend the money on something with a good story rather than just the latest corporate schlock manufactured in a Chinese sweatshop (or whatever it is). It's all about "brand Michigan" these days right? No reason to let Adidas piggyback off of that. |
| 6 weeks 3 days ago | Go Blue !? |
Er...Go Maize !? No, Go Blue! Definitely Go Blue! |
| 6 weeks 3 days ago | But... |
...Todd Jones is my Tiger. I'm completely lost now. |
| 6 weeks 3 days ago | Fuck the freep. |
I don't care much for Albom's schlock either. But it is nice that he points out that the Fab Five didn't actually win the title and that with a win over Syracuse this group will have matched them. |
| 6 weeks 3 days ago | WWE comparison is apt. |
People like to make fun of the "fake" wrestling but the credibility of the NBA is nearly as bad. But why stop there? We tend to assume that other sports are legit but is there really any reason to assume the the NFL, MLB, golf, olympics, whatever are clean? I guess the cynic in me is the reason that I'm a "casual fan" at best. It just not worth giving your heart (or much of your money) to watching sports. Edit: And for whatever it's worth, I do enjoy watching the silliness of the WWE. The NBA not so much. |
| 7 weeks 13 hours ago | But who really knows? |
I mean, I guess if he dies today then, yeah, he is a Tiger for life. Let's hope that doesn't happen. |
| 7 weeks 13 hours ago | Michigan is... |
...is a school, not a family. It's a big school too and there are plenty of people there that I would want nothing to do with. |
| 7 weeks 14 hours ago | That can't be right. |
Stockwell is a women's dorm. No way there would be any men living in there. |
| 7 weeks 1 day ago | Wow... |
...you guys are nearly as vanilla as Beilin. When I first read "subs" in the title, the first thing to come to my mind was sex slaves. I didn't get the sandwich connection until reading the full context of the quote. |
| 7 weeks 1 day ago | Jan 1. Rose Bowl. Always. |
I know a lot of people get excited about the MNC but I'll always prefer a New Year's Day Rose Bowl to Jan 7th MegaBowl. Old school til I die! |
| 7 weeks 1 day ago | I can "out lame" that... |
...the only time I've even been in a casino, I didn't play any games but did score a quarter in the coin return at the pay phones. I considered that a big score and never returned. Having said that, I actually scored a 1 on the poll because I have been to the horse track a couple of times with friends and it was quite fun to put a few dollars down. |
| 7 weeks 1 day ago | I only scored a 1. |
I've been to horse tracks a few times but that's literally only "gambling" that I've been involved. Unless, of course, you've been paying attention to the global banking system (hello Cyprus!) in which case they should probably add "Do you have a deposit at a bank?" as one of their questions. |
| 7 weeks 1 day ago | Sure... |
...I wish we had an MVP closer like Willie Hernandez (who doesn't) but if that's the biggest problem facing the team, I'm not worried much. They'll get it sorted out during the season. Maybe someone will step up. Or ore likely Dombrowski gets a steal of a deal as the trade deadline approaches. |
| 7 weeks 1 day ago | I actually loved the NIT... |
...and kind of miss it. The NCAA is obviously the prize but it also brings a heightened level of seriousness that leaves you on the edge of a heart attack (which can be difficult to enjoy sometimes). Whereas with the NIT, expectations for those teams are pretty low and the games can be quite fun. Especially getting home games at Crisler and road trips to NYC for the finals are always nice too. |
| 7 weeks 2 days ago | Man... |
...I wonder what Big Country Reeves is up to these days. Time for the google machine. |
| 7 weeks 3 days ago | The thing that is confusing about these... |
...numbers is that they only make sense some times but not all. Sure if Michigan played in one thousand Sweet Sixteens then they would prevail thirty-eight times. But the fact is that they are only playing in one Sweet Sixteen and only need to win it one time. Trying to give people expectations of 3.8 wins when only 1 is even possible is really just unnecessary and probably an abuse of mathematics. If Michigan is going to win it this year they say that there is a 100 percent chance or if Michigan isn't going to win it this year then say that there is a 0 percent chance. There's really on two possiblities and it's not that difficult to figure out...if they'd stop confusing people. |
| 7 weeks 3 days ago | Why won't they do a buyout? |
It's not just about the AD's bottom line. Hosting a big event is also an economic boost to the community (all the hotels, restaurants, shops) and this game probably ranks as a rare event for Uconn that will bring in outsiders and give the school & community some excellent added exposure. Connecticut is a small state that doesn't have a huge natural fanbase like Michigan or Ohio and there is also a lot of competition in that part of the country for sports entertainment dollars. Why give away all of that added value (to the Meadowlands & northern New Jersey for example) just for a few extra dollars upfront? In fact, it's even a bit worse than that because if you play the game off campus you are also sending your students & fans on a road trip to spend their money elsewhere while turning your own home into something of a ghostown. |
