Our Plan B coach in 2014 just got over the rivalry hump today

That's for all of you who said Dan Mullen wasn't that good at Miss State back in 2014.

Year three and he has records of 10-3 (and beat our ass) 11-2, and currently 4-1 and just beat Georgia 44-28.

Florida has been right near us in recruiting rankings. Harbaugh has zero excuses left.

Hire Fickell

As an OSU fan, the worst case scenario would be for UM to hire Fickell.   Looking at what he has done with a poor-mediocre Cincy program with limited resources is eye opening.  If you have watched any of their games you see the edge his players have. The recruiting dynamics in OH would shift immediately, KY end Cincy would be the big losers, UM would be the clear winner.  He is relatively young, has fire, and wins.

Yeah, I've kinda tuned out on the season.  Game was already 7-0 when I bothered to turn it on today and while I'm usually glued to the TV, I probably watched less than a quarter total while I worked around the house.  What's the point, this season is a bust and I don't see the long term prognosis being any better.

I certainly remember the general sense was, "You're top option is the guy who couldn't even beat Brady Hoke with an OSU roster? LOLOLOLOL."

In fact, that is kind of how I feel about Luke Fickell currently. If we fired Harbaugh to hire the guy that couldn't even beat Brady Hoke with an OSU roster, well, then we really are fucked.

Sorry about the double post—I keep seeing the wildly  euphoric Irish students mobbing the field after a thrilling offensive onslaught on the national stage and then reviewing M players and coaches slink off after crap performances these past two weeks—and seemingly — in every BIG Game for way too many years...

Mullen already has a destination job, he's not leaving Floriduh for Michigan.  He's not leaving Floriduh for the B1G - except for, *maybe*, OSU in some rare circumstance.

Well, PSU fans are also complaining about wanting to fire their coach. I mean, they're saying some of the same things people here are posting.

I believe Coach Franklin has established a few more brownie points than Harbaugh because of some fluky successful seasons. So PSU probably wont fire him right now, unless things become a total disaster.

Though if PSU were to let him go, it's possible they could get the best available coach or one of the coaches people on here have been mentioning for Michigan to go after.

It's rather ironic that many fans of the two programs that most people considered to be the best in the Big 10 after OSU... are now hoping for a coaching change.

Whittingham’s a solid coach, but he’s 60 years old and has been coaching at Utah for 26 years, the last 15 as HC. In addition, he’s a Mormon in the state where they dominate, while Michigan and A2 have tiny LDS populations.

Whittingham just signed a 4 year extension thru 2027 a few days ago. His buyout is over $10 million. Very, very unlikely he is an option.

I would be okay with Fickell if his DC comes too. Freeman is probably in line to replace him as the HC there. I’m not sure I want Fickell without Freeman, but Michigan is undefeated against osu when Fickell is the Head Coach in The Game.

It’s a moot point. Harbaugh isn’t leaving. I went to ESPN.com to check scores and half way down on the front page was the Harbaugh quote about the team being “close”. I believe they were mocking him since he’s 1-2, with losses to MSU and IU. At least coach Harbaugh is still making headlines!

I'm for Matt Campbell.  The Des Moines Register, a  newspaper based out of Iowa, reported in an article last year as being rumored as a possibility to replace Urban at OSU before they ultimately handed the keys over to Day.  Take it for what you will but he has a spread mindset and could work with Gattis if he didn't decide to clean house or bring his own crew over.  He's been successful at every stop and he's young.

Can we stop with the Matt Campbell talk? I’m fine with considering it, his hype is way over done. I went to KSU and have seen him up close, he’s....fine. He isn’t getting anyone over the hump and I would bet a lot that OSU wouldn’t hire him as head coach if Day left. This guy gets hyped every year for some reason and I don’t get it. I’m def on board with considering a change, but if it’s MC, I say UM sits tight.

It's arguable that comparing Campbell to Hoke, based on the body of evidence, is a shittier "take".  Are you actually for Harbaugh staying or who's your optimal choice then? It was reported that Campbell had actual NFL job offers last year.  How many did Hoke have?  Campbell was signed to a 2025 extension. It doesn't speak for how he'd do at Michigan but he has more value than Hoke. And most importantly, he runs a spread.  Someone that runs a spread understands what it takes to defend the spread.  He could at least get the personnel that would jive with his mindset and he'd have way more resources at Michigan than he's ever had. I mean compared to Toledo and Iowa St.?  The comparison as a younger Hoke is ridiculous.
