Our Plan B coach in 2014 just got over the rivalry hump today
That's for all of you who said Dan Mullen wasn't that good at Miss State back in 2014.
Year three and he has records of 10-3 (and beat our ass) 11-2, and currently 4-1 and just beat Georgia 44-28.
Florida has been right near us in recruiting rankings. Harbaugh has zero excuses left.
Hire Fickell

It just time to move on. 15 years of hope
November 8th, 2020 at 5:20 AM ^
Dan Mullen is located in the middle of the best state in the country for high school football players. It’s an easy sell for them to play football at UF. He wouldn’t have the same success in Ann Arbor. Period.
November 8th, 2020 at 6:30 AM ^
Really? Because they went from meh in 2017 to pretty good in 2018 with the same players.
November 8th, 2020 at 9:35 AM ^
Harbaugh did the same thing 2014-2016 and then apparently drove off a cliff so high the program is still falling.
November 8th, 2020 at 12:28 PM ^
Zook and McEllwain shows that its not just automatic, even at Florida
you actually need to, like, Coach.
November 8th, 2020 at 4:50 PM ^
ND says hi from South Bend. ?
November 8th, 2020 at 1:09 PM ^
As an OSU fan, the worst case scenario would be for UM to hire Fickell. Looking at what he has done with a poor-mediocre Cincy program with limited resources is eye opening. If you have watched any of their games you see the edge his players have. The recruiting dynamics in OH would shift immediately, KY end Cincy would be the big losers, UM would be the clear winner. He is relatively young, has fire, and wins.
November 8th, 2020 at 1:03 AM ^
Hire Lane Kiffin. Let's get nuts.
November 8th, 2020 at 1:10 AM ^
What's the downside?? Oh, we win 8 or 9 games and don't make the B1G championship game...sold!!
November 8th, 2020 at 2:34 AM ^
The actual downside is we could go 0-12 and have sanctions that last years because Kiffin is an idiot
November 8th, 2020 at 3:37 AM ^
Nope. I was a Raiders fan when he coached the Raiders fan. My family are USC boosters as well. Kiffin is one of those rare people that continually fails upwards. He is a bad leader, a bad person, and toxic. A good Offensive Coordinator is his ceiling.
November 8th, 2020 at 9:06 AM ^
Nuts ? Hell, could he do any worse and we'd probably get him for a lot less than $8 million which is insane considering the results. No B1G titles since 2004 says it all.
November 9th, 2020 at 8:26 PM ^
Yes...he could do much worse. I have seen it twice now.
November 8th, 2020 at 10:01 AM ^
Im just going to keep beating the drum for Mario cristobal
November 8th, 2020 at 10:08 AM ^
If Michigan is willing to take the leap down that rabbit hole with Lane Kiffin, which they aren't, I would much rather they go after Urban Meyer instead.
November 8th, 2020 at 1:13 AM ^
I'm in Hoke mode - tuned out and ready for change whatever that may be. I really hope that change is not the only unsuccessful Ohio State head coach.
November 8th, 2020 at 3:34 AM ^
Yeah, I've kinda tuned out on the season. Game was already 7-0 when I bothered to turn it on today and while I'm usually glued to the TV, I probably watched less than a quarter total while I worked around the house. What's the point, this season is a bust and I don't see the long term prognosis being any better.
November 8th, 2020 at 6:35 AM ^
The guy was a 38 year old interm with a raw Braxton Miller who came an overthrow away from winning that game.
November 8th, 2020 at 7:59 AM ^
Wow he almost beat a Michigan team coached by Hoke. Super impressive. Weren't they like 8-4 that year? And much better the year before and after?
November 8th, 2020 at 11:48 AM ^
They went 6-7. The year before they had gone 12-1, and the year after, 12-0.
November 8th, 2020 at 9:27 AM ^
Wait, now we want the guy that MSU wanted last year and we all laughed at them for wanting? Wow, we are fucked.
November 8th, 2020 at 1:00 PM ^
Who laughed at them wanting him? Most laughed because he turned them down.
November 8th, 2020 at 1:28 PM ^
I certainly remember the general sense was, "You're top option is the guy who couldn't even beat Brady Hoke with an OSU roster? LOLOLOLOL."
In fact, that is kind of how I feel about Luke Fickell currently. If we fired Harbaugh to hire the guy that couldn't even beat Brady Hoke with an OSU roster, well, then we really are fucked.
November 8th, 2020 at 2:09 PM ^
They are already fucked. You’re not getting a true A list coach to come here, so best case scenario is you find someone that’s up and coming, has shown an ability to build and sustain a program, and also knows your recruiting territory. That’s Fickell.
November 8th, 2020 at 2:48 PM ^
8.5.2
November 8th, 2020 at 1:14 AM ^
I’m all for hiring Univ of Louisiana Cougars' head coach, Red Beaulieu.
November 8th, 2020 at 1:24 AM ^
We just need more night games against ranked teams.
November 8th, 2020 at 8:45 AM ^

we would crush BYU, Notre Dame or Clemson right now....

Sorry about the double post—I keep seeing the wildly euphoric Irish students mobbing the field after a thrilling offensive onslaught on the national stage and then reviewing M players and coaches slink off after crap performances these past two weeks—and seemingly — in every BIG Game for way too many years...

I think we need to find a young high energy coach.
November 8th, 2020 at 7:51 AM ^
Mullen already has a destination job, he's not leaving Floriduh for Michigan. He's not leaving Floriduh for the B1G - except for, *maybe*, OSU in some rare circumstance.
November 8th, 2020 at 8:16 AM ^
Urban liar did without a problem.
November 8th, 2020 at 8:26 AM ^
Meyer left UF, on his own accord, for not football reasons. If Mullen were to leave UF for non-football related reasons and sit out a year, yeah, he'd jump back in at any 'destination' job that would have him.
November 8th, 2020 at 9:44 AM ^
Urban left Florida for football reasons. It was because shit was going to hit the fan and he got out of dodge before he was busted.
Go Blue!!
November 8th, 2020 at 1:59 AM ^
Well, PSU fans are also complaining about wanting to fire their coach. I mean, they're saying some of the same things people here are posting.
I believe Coach Franklin has established a few more brownie points than Harbaugh because of some fluky successful seasons. So PSU probably wont fire him right now, unless things become a total disaster.
Though if PSU were to let him go, it's possible they could get the best available coach or one of the coaches people on here have been mentioning for Michigan to go after.
It's rather ironic that many fans of the two programs that most people considered to be the best in the Big 10 after OSU... are now hoping for a coaching change.
November 8th, 2020 at 2:00 AM ^
Whittingham’s a solid coach, but he’s 60 years old and has been coaching at Utah for 26 years, the last 15 as HC. In addition, he’s a Mormon in the state where they dominate, while Michigan and A2 have tiny LDS populations.
November 8th, 2020 at 12:17 PM ^
Whittingham just signed a 4 year extension thru 2027 a few days ago. His buyout is over $10 million. Very, very unlikely he is an option.
November 8th, 2020 at 2:09 AM ^
I would be okay with Fickell if his DC comes too. Freeman is probably in line to replace him as the HC there. I’m not sure I want Fickell without Freeman, but Michigan is undefeated against osu when Fickell is the Head Coach in The Game.
It’s a moot point. Harbaugh isn’t leaving. I went to ESPN.com to check scores and half way down on the front page was the Harbaugh quote about the team being “close”. I believe they were mocking him since he’s 1-2, with losses to MSU and IU. At least coach Harbaugh is still making headlines!
November 8th, 2020 at 2:41 AM ^
Harbaugh's window is closing. I'm willing to give him until the end of his contract (2021).
After that, I'm on to Matt Campbell if he's available.
November 8th, 2020 at 3:17 AM ^
I'm for Matt Campbell. The Des Moines Register, a newspaper based out of Iowa, reported in an article last year as being rumored as a possibility to replace Urban at OSU before they ultimately handed the keys over to Day. Take it for what you will but he has a spread mindset and could work with Gattis if he didn't decide to clean house or bring his own crew over. He's been successful at every stop and he's young.
November 8th, 2020 at 3:37 AM ^
There's a lot to like about him...
...including that he's an outside who understands the power of passing.
"Keeping it in the family" has not worked out for Michigan after Carr.
November 8th, 2020 at 6:27 AM ^
Brock Purdy has regressed in the offense and he relies heavy on running the ball in a weak defensed B12..they always give up alot of pts too..im not sure Campbell would be any better than average here.
November 8th, 2020 at 8:19 AM ^
Can we stop with the Matt Campbell talk? I’m fine with considering it, his hype is way over done. I went to KSU and have seen him up close, he’s....fine. He isn’t getting anyone over the hump and I would bet a lot that OSU wouldn’t hire him as head coach if Day left. This guy gets hyped every year for some reason and I don’t get it. I’m def on board with considering a change, but if it’s MC, I say UM sits tight.
November 8th, 2020 at 10:02 AM ^
He gets hyped because iowa state is a shitty job and he keeps them competitive in a P5 conference. Plus he's young and has figured out how to defend the spread pretty effectively.
November 8th, 2020 at 1:54 PM ^
Cool, hire Bill Snyder or Chris Klieman then since they kick his ass every year.
November 8th, 2020 at 10:26 AM ^
Gattis’ play calling has been lackluster
November 8th, 2020 at 11:20 AM ^
I am so sick of hearing this shitty take over and over again. Matt Campbell is a younger Brady Hoke, at best.
November 8th, 2020 at 12:33 PM ^
It's arguable that comparing Campbell to Hoke, based on the body of evidence, is a shittier "take". Are you actually for Harbaugh staying or who's your optimal choice then? It was reported that Campbell had actual NFL job offers last year. How many did Hoke have? Campbell was signed to a 2025 extension. It doesn't speak for how he'd do at Michigan but he has more value than Hoke. And most importantly, he runs a spread. Someone that runs a spread understands what it takes to defend the spread. He could at least get the personnel that would jive with his mindset and he'd have way more resources at Michigan than he's ever had. I mean compared to Toledo and Iowa St.? The comparison as a younger Hoke is ridiculous.
