OT: NFL draft day 3 (and Spartan melts)

Submitted by m_go_T on
Where does Henry get drafted? Does Rudock? Who do the Lions (or your favorite team) take?
Also while you start your day, enjoy an unusual dose of Spartan dose of Schadenfreude. http://michiganstate.247sports.com/Board/93/Contents/McShays-official-e…
Apparently there is a media conspiracy to keep the Spartan down and the next time McShay is in east Lansing, someone should "break his jaw" or they should all be ashamed.

Michael Sam was an undersized defensive end who was a second/third day selection before he came out, something that I'm sure gave a couple of the less enlightened teams pause but shouldn't have affected his draft status too much. Cook seems to just be the fact his arm isn't great, he has meh accuracy if he throws hard, and he didn't wow people at any of the combines or pro days. the fact he is an ass probably doesn't matter all that much.

posting over there.  i now get why they are referred to as 'mouth breathers'.  that said, i did see one rational post with a link about cook that makes alot of sense.  the link/post i'm going to cut and paste was apparently done on 3/3/16.  frankly, i think it is the answer to the connor cook question - cook's throwing velocity was only 50 mph:

Paxton Lynch (59 MPH), Jared Goff (58), and Carson Wentz (57) all exhibited strong velocity at the Combine. Per Rotoviz's Jon Moore via Ourlads' Dan Shonka, Cook's miles-per-hour measurement was the weakest of all quarterbacks invited to Indianapolis. Cook also opted out of the Senior Bowl, which is where NFL scouts assess throwing strength live. A big-named passer in college, Cook is likely headed for a draft-day plunge. And there are several additional red flags on Cook not related to his underwhelming passing ability.

Good post XM, most attributed that to his hurt shoulder.

He had his pro day after the combine, and according to reports he was whipping the ball as hard as he could to prove he has shoulder strength but sailed terribly on a ton of balls.

So once you combine that with being an asshole and the bulk of your film being 50/50 balls to burbridge it's not entirely surprising he slid.

I imagine it's a great life: Everyone you think is good is actually good. Everyone on every other team which you think are bad really are bad. Nothing is ever your team's fault. You're never wrong, only conspired against. Think about it. They live the ultimate dream: nothing ever proves them wrong because it's all explainable as part ofthe conspiracy, and on the rare occasions that they are proven correct it validates their whole mentality.

Re: Cook

The guy completed like 55% of his passes. That doesn't strike me as a sure fire nfl qb.

Hopefully the lions will snatch a few defensive players to fill some holes. I see wr as less of a need with riddick being on the roster.

I think my squad (Bears) will grab Cook with one of their three 4th round picks if he's still there. The transition from Cutler to Cook (personality-wise) will be seamless. Jokes aside, I think Cook is just as talented as any other QB taken so far. The throws he made against us this year were damn impressive.

There's a link in the rcmb thread noting Cook's low velocity on his passes. I'd guess that's marrying up with shoulder concerns and him being a dick lollipop and causing him to fall. Still, this kid was hyper accurate much of the time, made some incredibly clutch plays for them. It's not an Alabama thing where the kid finishes with a great career record because he hands the ball off. They would have lost several games, probably 4-5?, the last two years with a Hackenberg-type equivalent. He was inconsistent though, disappearing from games against even bad opponents. It is odd. That apparently all summed up to a big "nah" from nfl teams

We are all now dumber for having read that.  Here is my personal favorite, "Doesn't Todd McShay's wife own some business? Name & where? Maybe we should start posting "rumors" about her!"  Pure sparty class.  Now don't put too much mayo on my fucking burger.

Sparties showing why they will always be one of the least respected "national" programs. And to the one guy asking if there's really that big of a difference between 50 and 59 mph. Well, yes. I'd say 15% is a pretty significant difference.

Only read a dozen posts by sparty fans before I had to decontaminate, but among the doozies were calls for "a horse to face-rape" Todd McShay, and another who pleaded for info on how to spread false rumors about McShay's wife. What a sick--- and sickening---fan base!

Their fanbase seens to have an abundance of fans like that; considerably more than the average fanbase. And that is why I will never root for them to win a game. Unless them doing so directly benefits Michigan. Even then I will feel like a long hot shower is necessary afterwards.

crankiness is on twitter also... I retweeted the tweet about michigan having a player drafted in 78 consecutive drafts and a state fan that I actually know when 100% douche about it and turned it into a state thing... after a short back and forth, and before I said now I know why your 2nd wife (who I used to work with) left you I blocked him...

yes, it's times like this that help separate friends from those that you no longer really want/need in your life. I call it pruning your friend tree.

I know a guy that went to Maryland but roots for Dook basketball, Dallas Cowboys football, etc. He's just a frontrunning asshat. When the Dallas Cowboy player obviously interefered with the Lions TE during the playoff game two years ago and they didn't call it, I posted a picture of the play on facebook to sort of bitch about it. Friend after friend, even non Lions fans, all agreed that it was a terrible overturn. This dickhead commented that it was the correct call and that we all need to get over it. He then started replying to my friends and started picking fights.

Within 5 minutes I had blocked him from all of my social media. We then went back and forth over text and I think it's safe to say that if we ever see each other we will not be civil. I had so many friends write me to ask who that jerk was, ha.

part is he is a good guy, but all of a sudden he turned into a sparty asshat!!! he tried to tell me that michigan fans live in the past yet he was the one bringing up the past... it was just typical sparty insecurity... he was by far the most tame of the sparty fans I've blocked on twitter...

yep, I've got numerous friends that are fans/alums of our rival schools. You can just tell that everyone has to temper their fandom around each other at times, trying to stay civil. But all it takes is one small issue to really light the fire and have your true colors/feelings come out. Sounds like that's what just happened with you two.

Could probably do without the Sparty stuff, but this should be an interesting day. Henry should go soon, and I think Rudock gets taken early in the 6th round. As for Cook, it's not his attitude as much as (i assume) he isn't grading out as well as a couple media folks thought. He's probably still got some shoulder issues and, let's be honest, he has some accuracy concerns given how good an offensive line he played behind and how relatively safe an offense he played in.

I think that is it. Someone in one of the RCMB threads noted that "maybe" Cook's inaccuracy on short and mid-length throws was a factor...and promptly got shouted down as a "walverine". Remember his completion % was significantly lower than Rudock this year -- and we were bitching about Rudock for at least half the season..
