OT: EMU runs onto field after players knock down wall w/hammers
they could have gone around it!! duh!!!
Even after they knocked it down they still went around it. Dumb.
Sometimes I really appreciate my Michigan degree.
This was so perfectly low budget Eastern style.
They need to do more of it because they are only up 3 on a 5-7 FCS team.
Coach Creighton trying to re-brand EMU. It looks ridiculous, but then the ridiculous is normal at Michigan State Normal College.
I had no idea that a team could have already played 12 games this season.
You take him to task for not being specific and explicitly stating what is clearly implied (5 -7 last year) and yet make the statement that you have no idea a team could have already played 12 games this year without clearly stating what type of team to which you refer. Lots of teams have played 12 games this year. The Tigers for one, is a team that has already played 12 games. In fact, they've played many more than 12.
Eh, they're looking for some identity. They can't compete with a B1G team 20 minutes down the road. Let them have some fun, if the coaches like it and the players buy into it, there's no harm.
There's no harm until ESPN posts a Keystone Cops video of the incident.
Because they don't have fancy receiver gloves.
get on a bed of nails and have it smashed on you like a man! Just wear a cup.....
They're really serious about this whole industrial factory motif at Rynearson...
Field on gameday via twitter
edit: its not even a real wall, whats the point?
It was just off camera, but the wall actually held the pocket long enough for a stray brick to get a screen pass off for the first down. Masonry is driving and currently at the EMU 34-yard line.
I had to chuckle at the Chaplin-esque music that ESPN chose just because it seemed to fit the moment in all of its stark lack of glory.
I give the concept a 5/10 and the execution a 2/10.
What's the ranking of their engineering school again?
EMU - THE FACTORY
We all know that EMU put in a gray field and call it 'the factory'.
My first thoughts were that it was a ridiculous gimick that would fail.
I opened up espn3.com to check out the EMU vs Morgan St game after seeing that it was in the 4th qtr, under a weather delay, and a 3 pt game.
The Factory is very cool. Remember when colorizing classic black and white films became a thing? (WD please ask your parents). The films tended to still seem black and white with a smattering of color. That's what this looks like. The colors on the uniforms accent the drab field, which looks a bit like the street some of us grew up playing ball on. 'Car!' ... move to the curb.
I like it. A lot. Looks way better live during a game (on tv/internet) than just a photo of the field.
are under the impression that the wall is the only thing between them and a 2-10 season.
It's a shame that cracks don't propogate through non-joined bodies. Should've consulted Wayne State on this idea.
What a testimate to emu civil engineering.
Fascinating. I do have to ask what a "testimate" is. Is that what they call the genitals of emus?
Next game try a pinata.
Time to layoff the workers at the factory
Groot, what gives? When did you add all these words to your previously borderline nonexistent vocabulary?
If you could clarify that with me, it would be great. And still weird. But great.
Maybe the wall was already there.
Calling Mr. Gorbachev....
you know, if EMU decided to become FCS football and put their money into basketball, they could have a really good basketball program. If they did this a decade ago, when um was down, they could hae been a tourny team like Oakland was. Unfortunatly, this school is run by about a half dozen morons in Ypsi.
That is something they don't want to happen. EMU is third all time in MAC titles won and just won an award for best overall athletic department(academic and onfield success)in the MAC.
good point, swimming, track and field and other sports are good...but they could have de-emphasized football and became the MAC Duke. Ypsi is by in large part a commuter campus, not likely to draw kids away from CMU, WMU or Toledo for football.
Isn't that basically what they've done? Duke fields a football team but doesn't really care about it. Ditto for EMU.
umm Duke's football team is on the rise and they are starting to put resources into it.
That wall reminds me of the 12" Stonehenge in Spinal Tap.
wasn't that kind of tiring swinging a sledgehammer right before playing?
This thread is full of win!!!
I hope that wasn't a load bearing wall for the stadium.
There is a Pink Floyd joke somewhere in here but it is too late for me to squirrel it out.
Next week, the stunt ends abruptly when the team captain sings Goodbye Cruel World behind the wall, then leads the team back into the tunnel.
that has shed thousands of jobs in SE Michigan in the last 25 years.
This one has a disassembly line?
Number 12 needs a little shot of Your avatar and tag line speech.
"...we’re going to win it as a TEAM. ...there’s going to be one team that is going play solely as a team. No man is more important than the team. ... THE TEAM! THE TEAM! THE TEAM! And if we think that way, all of us, everything that you do you take into consideration what effect does it have on my team? ... We’re going to play together as a TEAM. We’re going to believe in each other. We’re not going to criticize each other. We’re not going to talk about each other. We’re going to encourage each other! "
I have not played Pengo in a long time.
I clicked on this thread hoping to see a large Australian bird. Now I'm disappointed.
Is there a minecraft class at EMU we don't know about?
I'm entertained by coach-generated themes like these. Even our 1997 team had some sort of mountain climber thing going good on. Otherwise, you see a lot of axes, hammers and various power tools which must somehow symbolize the season as a job or task requiring significant effort.
Was anyone else expecting a big bird to run onto the field?
I was there (I'm on the other side of the wall photographing btw) and I think it was a stupid stunt. I do like the gray field though.
