Observation and a question about Gary regarding Crystal Balls

Submitted by Bones032 on

Was thinking about Rashan Gary this morning, and thought this was a decent thing to create my first ever thread about.

Kind of an observation and a question.

Since August 2014, there have been 38 Crystal Ball predictions for Gary.

37 have been for Michigan, and 1 was for Auburn on 07/11/15. The 4 before August 2014 were for Alabama. So that means 0 have come in for Clemson, also means every pick since July has been for UM.

Has there ever been a player who has chosen a school that had 0 crystal balls before? Seems insane to me. I mean I am sure there has been some lower ranked guy who only had like 3 CBs total who picked a different school. But I wonder if any top 200ish guy who had a  good amount of predictions has ever choosen someone out of leftfield.

That helped me feel more calm about him, 37 of the last 38, including the last 25 have all been for UM. Go Blue.

Speculation is just that. I got one.. What if Gary wakes up tomorrow and takes a big crap and it forms a C in the toilet. And based on this he chooses Clemson? Now I know that is a shitty example but it makes as much sense as anyone elses speculation based on ballz. I feel we have done plenty to show him how much we value him coming here. If this is not the case we still have one hell of a class that will finally get coached up to their potential and for that we we should all be greatful and put at ease.

Prior to the stupid CB stuff, but I would guess off the top of my head - Donovan Warren.  5 Star guy out of California that NOBODY saw coming to Michigan.

Even crystal ballz don't know what 17-18 year olds are going to do. So, I decided that I am just going to be happy that we have Harbaugh and everything else fall in place. I sleep better that way.

There are probably numerous examples within our program in the last 5 years, but Shelton Johnson last year was 100% FSU.

But like Magnus said its usually lower-profile guys with fewer predictions. Gary picking Clemson without a CB would definitely buck the trend of a top 5 player, yeah.

Love this time of year when people who have no idea how recruiting works think they have figured out something that no one else has figured out.  Haha.  Wake me up when the faxes start running.

I think that the crystal balls cannot be used as a metric because they are an output. It would be like saying that UM wins every time I wear my lucky shirt.. The shirt has no real input function toward the team winning.

Sam Webb on Gary just now on a Detroit News web chat:

"I don't mean to make the Michigan fans here stroke out. Just letting you know that that this one might be a nailbiter"

It wouldn't be good for any of the recruiting outlets' viewership to just say that Rashan is going to Michigan. This is especially true given the fact that most of the other top recruits in the country have committed. I'm just telling myself that common sense isn't too common this close to NSD and the major recruiting outlets know that and will use it to their advantage.

Conversely, it also raises the profile for Michigan Football for Gary to holdout to signing day until commiting to Michigan.

Remember, no one is talking about: Dexter Lawrence, Greg Little, Shea Patterson, or Jacob Eason

Who happen to be the #2, #3, #4, and #5 recruits in the country, and just as likely to be future NFL players.

The truth is, I have no idea where Gary will go (personally I think UM is a lock).

But, I know for sure that Michigan Football, under Harbaugh, has been unprecedented in utilizing the media (and exposing the media's stupidity at times) and spectacle to showcase and boost Michigan Football, and the aforementioned commitment-holdout scenario would also bring the most attention.

Who knows though? (and that's the point)

Yea I wont be around MGoBlog for a few days if this happens.

Personally, Id love to have Gary at Michigan but if it doesnt happen its his loss more than ours. As a football player he will be fine wherever he lands Id suspect. But after football he wont be a Michigan Alum something other schools just cant match.

I have absolute faith that Harbaugh will build a program that is in the conversation every year with or without Gary.
