Observation and a question about Gary regarding Crystal Balls
Was thinking about Rashan Gary this morning, and thought this was a decent thing to create my first ever thread about.
Kind of an observation and a question.
Since August 2014, there have been 38 Crystal Ball predictions for Gary.
37 have been for Michigan, and 1 was for Auburn on 07/11/15. The 4 before August 2014 were for Alabama. So that means 0 have come in for Clemson, also means every pick since July has been for UM.
Has there ever been a player who has chosen a school that had 0 crystal balls before? Seems insane to me. I mean I am sure there has been some lower ranked guy who only had like 3 CBs total who picked a different school. But I wonder if any top 200ish guy who had a good amount of predictions has ever choosen someone out of leftfield.
That helped me feel more calm about him, 37 of the last 38, including the last 25 have all been for UM. Go Blue.

committed late with 14 CBs. Most had him ticketed to Bama or UF, none here.

Has any school landed the #1 and #2 players (according to Rivals) in the country? Which is what Clemson would end up with if Gary went there. It's also interesting that both guys are DTs.
February 2nd, 2016 at 4:18 PM ^
AFAIK, no team has received commitments from the top two players in the country during the Rivals era.

Prior to the stupid CB stuff, but I would guess off the top of my head - Donovan Warren. 5 Star guy out of California that NOBODY saw coming to Michigan.

That was some great recruiting by Ron English.

Don't get hung up on the Crystal Ball picks of people that do not know where he's going.

We literally got someone, TE Nick Eubanks, to commit with 0% Ballz last week lol
February 2nd, 2016 at 12:00 PM ^
I hope you're wrong. Football is a tough sport, especially TE, so I hope Eubanks has at least some balls...
February 2nd, 2016 at 11:58 AM ^
There was not a single crystal ball to Michigan for Nick Eubanks when he committed. Does that count?
February 2nd, 2016 at 12:06 PM ^
He is a "body catcher" so he doesn't count.

Crystal balls are used to tell the future where I'm from

5* Christian Wilkins, if i recall correctly, had 0 CBs towards Clemson last year and committed to Clemson. He was a heavy penn state lean

There are probably numerous examples within our program in the last 5 years, but Shelton Johnson last year was 100% FSU.
But like Magnus said its usually lower-profile guys with fewer predictions. Gary picking Clemson without a CB would definitely buck the trend of a top 5 player, yeah.

Can we just get a Rashan Gary snowflakes thread for the next 24 hrs mods?
February 2nd, 2016 at 12:17 PM ^
even a "recruiting NSD snowflakes" thread. One every four hours or so until tomorrow AM.

1. Start a podcast called "Ballz Talk"
2. Talk about ballz.
3. ??????
4. PROFIT!

Love this time of year when people who have no idea how recruiting works think they have figured out something that no one else has figured out. Haha. Wake me up when the faxes start running.

Nobody had Harmon committing to Michigan... until he did.

If the choice ends up being Clemson, you could see still some last minute Crystal Ballz flips tomorrow before his decision. I don't know when the ballz lock though.

I had an uncle that died from ballz lock. Too soon man. To soon....

Look at Da'Shawn Hand's old Ballz. 86% Michigan.

But he did have several Alabama CBs, so not at all like the situation with Gary.
February 2nd, 2016 at 12:28 PM ^
There is still time for someone to play with their Ballz before Signing Day and flip to Clemson. I wouldn't be surprised to see a couple Clemson ones come in the last 24 hours.

1st crystal ball has came in for Clemson. Just like I told you it eventually would.

Harbaugh and the team doesn't look like shit this year.
February 2nd, 2016 at 12:23 PM ^
Bars made an early commitment in the spring almost a year before Signing Day with no formal announcement. I don't think it is legal to play with premature adolescent Ballz. The Ballz did not have enough time to mature.

Sam Webb on Gary just now on a Detroit News web chat:
"I don't mean to make the Michigan fans here stroke out. Just letting you know that that this one might be a nailbiter"
February 2nd, 2016 at 12:32 PM ^
I am super nervous about his decision. I think he really liked Clemson. All these crystal ballz have him going to Michigan, but that makes me even more nervous about it. What if he wants to make a recruiting splash and surprise everyone...VOM ON MY FACE HOLE FOR JUST THINKING THIS

It wouldn't be good for any of the recruiting outlets' viewership to just say that Rashan is going to Michigan. This is especially true given the fact that most of the other top recruits in the country have committed. I'm just telling myself that common sense isn't too common this close to NSD and the major recruiting outlets know that and will use it to their advantage.
February 2nd, 2016 at 1:29 PM ^
Conversely, it also raises the profile for Michigan Football for Gary to holdout to signing day until commiting to Michigan.
Remember, no one is talking about: Dexter Lawrence, Greg Little, Shea Patterson, or Jacob Eason
Who happen to be the #2, #3, #4, and #5 recruits in the country, and just as likely to be future NFL players.
The truth is, I have no idea where Gary will go (personally I think UM is a lock).
But, I know for sure that Michigan Football, under Harbaugh, has been unprecedented in utilizing the media (and exposing the media's stupidity at times) and spectacle to showcase and boost Michigan Football, and the aforementioned commitment-holdout scenario would also bring the most attention.
Who knows though? (and that's the point)
February 2nd, 2016 at 6:41 PM ^
I'm sorry, but I think our profile is high enough now. We've done all we can do off the field to raise the profile. Now we have the players on campus or coming to campus soon to raise our profile higher on the field.

I can only imagine the meltdown thread if Gary were to get a clemson crystal ballz. It would be endless.

Yea I wont be around MGoBlog for a few days if this happens.
Personally, Id love to have Gary at Michigan but if it doesnt happen its his loss more than ours. As a football player he will be fine wherever he lands Id suspect. But after football he wont be a Michigan Alum something other schools just cant match.
I have absolute faith that Harbaugh will build a program that is in the conversation every year with or without Gary.
