That's why they say having faith is believing in things that you cannot see.
It's easy to jump on a bandwagon, but hard to be "all in" when everyone is getting out.
Same with stocks... it takes guts to buy stocks when they are hitting rock bottom.

Beilein did this the right way. Austin was able to be a part of the team and was able to step back into a medical scholarship so that he could focus on his academics. I can imagine in a few years, Austin might be looking at medical school to follow his dad's footsteps or perhaps even at coaching to continue making an impact in lives on the basketball court!

There is a "silent majority" of MGoBloggers who are very optimistic and full of hope and trust for each and every Michigan team, coach, staff member and student-athlete. I am one of them, but since I have a (more than) full-time job, it's often hard for me (and fellow members of the "silent majority") to compete against the voices of the negative nancies and the folks who are obsessed with winning the "fantasy football" recruiting stars tournament.
Carter, I hope you forgive me for my silence previously, but I logged on today (before having to jump on another conference call) to say WELCOME!!! I wish you all the best and look forward to your days at Michigan!

I think mods need to send Pinky packing. We should really make negs worth something more or at least give the board some more power to silence some troll for a night.

Makes sense. He's doing the satellite camps and I'm sure he's pressed for time to make sure that we get some strong recruits on board to salvage the '16 class.

You're probably right and this seems really sensible... but nothing annoys me more than when the 401k (or other stock holdings) goes down during a recession.... then I keep thinking... I should have just bought something nice... or taken a vacation... or played some roulette, etc.

2. Lexus RX350
3. Upgraded to a SUV because I needed more space for the kid. Before, I had a Mercedes C300 as a lease, but it was pretty annoying so I was honestly relieved when I returned it (it will be the last time I drive a MB). My issues were - rear tail lights went out during the first year and I had them changed a few times on my own dime, then realized that it was a defect in the car that they never did a recall for... also, the tires on that car are really bad... like I went through 4 tires (2 popped while I was driving and the others kept going flat) during my first two years.... My Lexus SUV is so much better... no issues so far. I also like it because it's common enough (NYC suburb) that it's not really seen as a luxury car and it's pretty durable.

I see that his friend Will Small is also visiting with him. Did we give a conditional offer to Will Small? I read a few tweets where he seemed to mention that he had an offer, but I didn't see it up on any sites yet. He seems like a real go-getter, hopefully, he'll rise up in the rankings too.

Calling China a "third world shithole" seems way off base considering that they're the second largest economy, but whatever, I guess that's just according to Google.

They represent all students. Grad students really don't have as much of a voice though since they're pretty disjointed - many different schools and programs and the experiences vary widely amongst schools.

That's just not true. If you are a permanent resident, you have to file a US tax return and disclose all sources of income, foreign or domestic. In addition, there is a law, FATCA, that requires disclosure of all foreign bank accounts as well.

Yea, my mantra is if the issue is not material, then it's probably better to save your energy for the bigger fights.
Also, I'm sorry to hear that your acquaintance doesn't have health insurance. Hopefully, they can figure that out whether through a job that provides one or otherwise.

It's not a "need" per se, but it's a decision that the athletic department made to make student tix more accessible. If this gives kids a chance to see their team and become fans, then great, lets do it.

I get your moral hang-up with respect to recipients of discounted tickets from reselling them, but it's probably one of those things that are not worth the effort to police. For all intents and purposes, if a student can't attend a game, then he should get it to another student that will attend and fill the seat. If there are a few bucks to be made, then so be it.
I don't see this any differently than students who are on scholarship getting grant money to buy textbooks. After all, we all know that those textbooks get resold right after the semester is over and the student gets to pocket a few bucks there as well. I can't imagine placing restrictions on resales of textbooks if they were bought with grant money, nor can I see restrictions on resales of tickets because they were initially discounted.

Yes, if they bought it 20 years ago for like $250k like a third of the people in Silicon Valley. Otherwise, probably not even on that "middle class" 250k salary.
|9 weeks 5 days ago||Pell grants are only for||
Pell grants are only for American citizens and permanent residents (green card holders). Therefore, not sure what you're referring to when you say there may be gaps due to income from other countries. In fact, Americans and permanent residents would need to report all sources of income on their IRS filings, therefore, your point seems incorrect (and permanent residents aren't even allowed to leave America for extended durations or else they would lose their permanent residency).
Practically speaking, the typical "gaps" are wages earned from cash jobs - i.e., baby-sitting, tutoring, delivering pizzas, etc. that never get reported.
