--------------------------------------

Sharing Trolls Counts as Trolling: Sometimes desperately lazy outlets hire trolls, or trolls who are good at social media build enough of a following, that they become a headache for us, spreading hate or falsehoods. Because having them repeated on our site can directly harm us, if you're on the message board you should be aware that posting something from them could get you banned. They are:

  • SirYacht/Chat Sports/James Yoder - Fake news merchant who likes to make up plausible rumors or report non-sure things to get a false scoop.
  • Any local Spartan media when they talk about Michigan. Unless they're yelling "MAKE PLAYS!"
  • Pete Finebaum: FoxNews for SEC fans. Occasionally useful to them but the only times he's intersecting with us is when he's carrying Saban's water.
  • Rainer Sabin: Finebaum wannabe hired by the Freep to troll Michigan fans.
  • Steve Deace: Curiously well-funded white supremacist radio host who's got such a small Michigan following you can safely assume anyone posting positively about him is Deace and ban him again. Creates lots of burner accounts to promote himself. Recently booted by Maven for advocating lynching.
  • Barstool: People who took the freedom of young internet too seriously because really what they wanted to do the whole time was propagate bad ideas.

Ryan Day to the Bears

We're not posting unsourced rumors on the message board. I took it down.

Thank you, Seth.

To that I'll add this:

We're going to try a one thread per day policy as a catch-all for that day's Harbaugh 'staying or leaving?' rumors. Only exceptions will be if and when there's a verified report of Harbaugh signing an extension or a contract, whichever may be the case, or if he makes a public statement on his coaching status. We will be open to making adjustments to this 'policy' as the situation evolves.

...as I spelled out in yesterday's META thread and earlier this afternoon in the 'Jim Harbaugh Back Squat Form'  thread.

OT TRIBUTE TO A LEGEND.  WD

It has been quite some time since the WD banning, so we will not relitigate the past.

He took a lot of shit from people, yes, but then he also asked for much of the attention that he got as well, and handled getting said attention rather badly. When confronted with his miscues, he became insufferable, even combative. By the time he was removed, it was more than warranted.

You may now move on.

The Blaze criticizes MSU for allowing full basketball attendance while refusing to allow in-person learning

It was a terrible lowering of barriers, but I tried to find a quote in this article that would spare the OP from specifically mentioning that it came from virtual loo paper, but there isn't such a quote.

My challenge to the OP is to find something similar, but NOT from a source birthed by Glenn Beck.

I just removed a couple overly political remarks that were made in the OT: Big Papi gets elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame. Bonds/Clemens/Schilling/Sosa off the ballot thread.  Several threaded comments went bye-bye in the process.

C'mon, is it really necessary? Take it to Facebook or Myspace or your social media platform(s) of choice.  Most of us come to the MGoBoard to get away from that stuff.

You didn't fire the first shot, someone else did and it went from there. I didn't even take names, just instead ripped the whole darn thing out of the discussion.

Because of the controversial subject matter, due to the tainted careers and stats of individuals included for the final time on this year's ballot, it was already guaranteed to be a volatile discussion. We didn't need gasoline to be poured into the mix.

Does anyone know why the word "lonely" shows up just below the banner at the top of the page?  Here is a snippet of what I'm talking about.

EDIT: Apologies if I am putting this in the wrong place.

The realtor.com autoplay ad is very annoying. Not going to install adblock or anything as I know the ad revenue's vital, but the autoplay function plus the audio is ... not great.

Seth

It's also illegal. We're not getting paid for that--they've hidden it as many different ads and slipped it through. Our ad network is trying their best to get rid of it. Same thing that was happening 2 years ago with Trump ads, and probably the same scuzzy people who were doing it.

I called out Kolesar99 last night for being an obvious Sparty troll based on his posting history as of ~10pm last night. Looks like he attempted to cover up his history with short replies to old threads that pushed his real comments off the posting history page. His failed attempt at disguising himself makes his act even more obvious.

'Kolesar99' is getting at very least a temporary time-out and likely also a point reduction. I'm still looking at his posting history and finding dozens of posts in old threads.

LSA warned him yesterday evening about other issues, too:

"Kolesar99, I say this with absolutely no due respect to you - please stop being a daft cow all over this thread.

I apparently can say that, by your standards, with confidence as I am in fact a graduate of the University Of Michigan and have some deep ties to the place.

Just a friendly reminder that we do watch these threads on occasion."

I deleted Looks like Harbaugh to Miami.  We are continuing with the current practice of allowing one thread per day to deal with the latest rumors on Jim staying or leaving.  In this particular case, a random tweet from a blue-checked 'source' spreading hearsay doesn't pass the thread-worthiness test.

If there's an actual verifiable report of Harbaugh signing to remain at Michigan or one confirming his departure to the NFL, then and only then will the post be left up on the board.

I also edited What to know about the Vikings HC Search to make it more apparent where to go for the latest Har-rumors.

MLive: Michigan hockey under investigation for under-reporting covid cases removed... it's a repeat of a report and thread posted less than 24 hours earlier.

Deleted Smoke forming that The Dolphins are very much in play

Once again, there's a limit of one designated daily thread re: Harbaugh speculation.  It's still on the first page of the board.

jesus tapdancing christ, can we PLEASE just get a single, pinned harbaugh speculation thread and nuke the rest?

there's no reason for ANY of these to exist in the first place - limiting to one a day is no better.

Normally I would have addressed it hours ago but I've been out of town since mid morning visiting one of my daughters.

At this point I'm leaving them all up on the board, calling it "manic depressive Miami/Minnesota Monday"  and going back tomorrow to the one Harbaugh thread rule, for however long it takes until a contract has been signed.

I woke up at 4am today, clicked on the board for a moment and found this "gem",

Michigan Will be Fine Without Harbaugh

...which had been posted 10 minutes earlier by user 'OaklandinPlay'. OiP will no longer be in play for the next several days, as he is being charged a time out until after the Harbaugh situation is resolved.

We had four...4!!!...Harbaugh threads posted yesterday to the board; with Winter Storm Warnings posted throughout much of the Michigan and the Midwest for midweek, there's no need for a snowflake on the subject to have its own thread.

The post will be left on display until later this morning, at which time it will be deleted.

Update @ 1:10 pm: deleting this thread now. 'OaklandinPlay' reaped a net total of -101 votes for his ill-advised post.

Not sure if anything can be done about this, but user Jimmyisgod keeps posting unsubstantiated rumors, such as that Harbaugh called a team meeting or that he was saying goodbye to people and thanking them. Seems like that should not be permitted. I have not previously heard of him as being one of the "insiders," and it seems just baseless.

CC: Brady Hoke

Please don't clog the message board with joke threads. You can put these comments in the coaching search thread.

rob f

February 1st, 2022 at 12:53 PM ^

CC: Jay Harbaugh and CC: Matt Campbell both locked.

Seriously, until there's an official verified decision by Coach Harbaugh, what is the point of clogging up the MGoBoard with idle speculation snowflakes ❄️❄️❄️?

Use the daily designated Harbaugh thread please.

Both threads will be deleted around 2 pm by 3 pm.

Update @2:46pm: both now deleted.

Rob I think both you and LSA do a fantastic job moderating this board. You guys do fantastic work.

If I could make one little request, please leave the threads unlocked until you delete them. Shitting on a poorly constructed OP is therapeutic.

I totally understand why you do it though.

We'll see if he lasts long after how argumentive he was when I issued the warning yesterday.

I'll be monitoring him closely---if he chooses to again violate the no trolling rule, he's gone.

I'll also be watching whether he continues to upvote himself, another thing he argued about. He upvoted himself at least 27 times a few days ago before I called him out on it.

(Edit on 2/21: he's gone. Banned him, I got tired of babysitting one childish individual who had nothing better to do than muck up the MGoBoard with his trolling and other assorted idiocy.)

Thanks.

I'll take a look at it and his posting history.  If he's a new user it'll be a slam-dunk.  Otherwise he might get a warning.

[edit: I'll continue to monitor him, but I think he (like numerous others on the MGoBoard) took Harbaugh's NFL job search a bit too personally.

Most of his other posts seem to be fairly innocuous.]
