MBB no longer recruiting Amedeo Della Valle
Per UMHoops, Rock Me Amedeo is no longer in the picture for Michigan.
Dylan included this tweet from Della Valle:
So Michigan STOPPED recruiting me today? That's really fair !!! WoW !!
— Amedeo Della Valle (@Ame_DV_2) Avril 11, 2012
It appears that we are done for 2012 recruiting.
Looks like he was high on Michigan too, since he's so disappointed they're no longer recruiting him.
With the three transfers, why aren't they recruiting him anymore?

If you look at the UMHoops scholarship chart, we're filled up in 2013-2014. Obviously that can change, but things could get uncomfortable if Austin Hatch is able to make it to campus and Burke and Hardaway both come back for their respective junior and senior years. And even if that scenario isn't particularly likely, there are probably some more talented wings we could get in on in the 2013 class.
Had he said yes prior to Spikes commitment and Trey's return he would have been able to go to Michigan. No he wanted to be recruited and missed out.
I'd tend to agree with you that he missed his window if he wanted to end up in A2, but in fairness to the kid, Michigan only recently began to show interest, so it's not entirely shocking that he wasn't ready to commit just yet.
I agree with both of you, but would add unfair has nothing to do with it, any more than unfair would have anything to do with it if we had continued to recruit Della Valle and he had chosen to attend school elsewhere. An understandable reaction from a teenager hoping to go to school here, but not truly justifiable.
I wish the kid the best of luck in his basketball future.
His window to commit hadn't even opened yet because he hadn't yet visited campus. Beilein never makes official offers until a recruit sets foot on campus. I'm sure Beilein made that clear to him.
so...He is given options, which at any time is influenced by the schools desire to still use a scholarship on him. We got Spike and TB is returning to school. If he didn't realize this is how recruiting goes, than that is on his coach.

that's overly harsh. kid is coming from nevada, it isn't a short drive. and he planned to come tomorrow, so this is kind of last minute. i accept that this happens in recruiting and that ultimately we had no ill-intent nor did we do anything wrong. however, from his perspective i'm sure he feels cheated and that he's somewhat justified in his outrage.
i hope he doesn't go to OSU.
They have been on him for a few months actually. Just hadn't offered yet.
I heard Vogrich is going to grow his hair out and get a perm so no big deal.
I am shocked and ashamed at my MGoBrethren that such an obvious challenge to photoshop has been thrown down and, as of 8:21, no one with the requisite skills has yet taken it up. To get you going, may I suggest:

I regret that I have but one fake point to give you for this, good sir. This is strong, strong work.
"That's really fair"? Kid needs to open his eyes and realize that just because he's good at basketball no one owes him anything. Wish him the best of luck, but it sounds like he may need an attitude adjustment before becoming truly successful at the next level.
I would let that one slide seeing as how english is his second language and we may be missing his point.
Just a disappointed kid who feels like he just lost out on a great opportunity.
We tend to treat tweets like a mini press release, when it's just a kid relaying his thoughts in an instant of emotion. It'd be like a transcript of the time I stubbed my toe and blamed the dog, wife, and Angry BISB Toe Hating God, even though it was my own damn fault.
He's 18 years old. It's twitter. He's disappointed or confused or both. Cut him some slack. Your response to his twitter is more childish than the kid's original response. Someone really needs an attitude adjustment.

Understandable reaction...from the recruit.
April 11th, 2012 at 10:59 AM ^
I wish we could give JBE more than 5 points.
My take: anyone who has or had any reservations about the talent level of Spike Albrecht should feel much better today. If JB wasn't confident that Spike can play, there is no way he would have stopped recruiting ADV.

Saying your bummed out because the school you were about to visit pulled something approximating an offer doesn't strike me as petulant. If he had said UM blew or that Coach B is a snake, then yeah, overreaction. I would hope that any recruit of UM's would be bummed out if he wound up not getting an offer; that shows he actually cared about the opportunity.

Its not like he is some 5* player we turned away. Ugliness will not ensue.
April 11th, 2012 at 10:32 AM ^
never ever work out
April 11th, 2012 at 11:35 AM ^
His short-lived recruitment can forever remind us of Burke's decision to return.
I really liked ADV's playing style... one must wonder how committable his offer to play at ohio is.
probably very. they don't have a single incoming player.
Classic case of you snooze you loose. He needed to visit and commit quickly if thats what he wanted to do.
Do you think Beilein has someone better that is about to commit? Or does he just want flexibility to take another recruit next year?
I would guess he is banking it for next year, with the uncertainty of THJ being back the following year. As Sam Webb noted on twitter, with Trey and Spike on board next season, and the possibility of THJ back the following year (with the other '13 guards coming in), just not enough minutes to go around.
Edited to add: not worthy of it's own thread, but in all the chatter about next year, where do people see Bielfleldt fitting into the rotation? (if at all, i guess)
He supposedly looked pretty good in practice, but was held back due to the tendonitis. I expect him to get some minutes off the bench next year.

Beilein most likely figures we have enough guys to do well next year w/o Della Valle. Also, with more time to work with recruiting-wise we can get a player who better fits our needs in 2013.
Fair? His recruitment heated up only because we lost Brundidge and were about to lose Burke, leaving us without a point guard. Subsequently, we gained Spike and DIDN'T lose Burke. I don't see how Della Valle doesn't get that.

and Burke flirting with NBA draft.
April 11th, 2012 at 12:48 PM ^
I don't see how Della Valle doesn't get that.We are talking about a teenager here. They can be a tad egocentric in their thinking.
Well, I thought he was planning on visiting this weekend. If he had already paid for a non-refundable ticket, that would stink.
I think the visit would be an official, which means he would not have been on the hook for a plane ticket.
Woo! Did not want. Happy to move on. Yay Trey.
Best of luck to the kid...nothing to see here.
I think he'll be the better player, but Spike is the better fit. A kid that knows he'll be the backup PG, but be a coach on the floor (especially in practice), a natural PG vs. ADV who is somewhat of a combo guy. We get a "heady" kid who is going to help make Burke and Irvin better vs. a kid who is going to be fighting for a starting job.
You just lost 2.5 PGs. You almost lost your starting PG. A week ago, this team was staring at a top 10 team in terms of talent, almost literally without a point guard--ie a top 30 team. And now, after nearly going from 3 or 4 to 0, Beilein thinks Michigan is set with 2-a true freshman and a true sophomore? Again, I don't get it.
He's more SG than PG. The 2013 team will have Walton & Albrecht at PG (assuming Burke leaves) and Stauskas & Irvin at SG (assuming THJ leaves). Again, I like Della Valle, but he would be somewhat redundant.
April 11th, 2012 at 10:11 AM ^
Why not have Della Valle in the mix? I'm sure somebody would have transferred from the group if you throw Della Valle in the mix (maybe without, if they don't get the minutes they want).
April 11th, 2012 at 11:45 AM ^
That's my guess. There are still highly-rated guys out there in the 2013 class.
April 11th, 2012 at 12:10 PM ^
I think the concern is running into a scholarship crunch with a guy who was recruited as essentially a back-up plan in case Trey left or they couldn;t sign another point guard. Both concerns are taken care of and I understand the coaches backing off. All the same though I feel for the kid, that has to be disappointing to find out right before a scheduled trip.
April 11th, 2012 at 10:26 AM ^
ADV is not a PG, so how would he help anyway?
April 11th, 2012 at 11:06 AM ^
Is he? I haven't seen his tape.
Given the precise timing that his recruitment began and especially ended, I assume he was seen as at least a tweener by Beilein. If he was being hastily recruited as a SG immediately after the Burke scare, I am confused for different reasons now.
April 11th, 2012 at 11:43 AM ^
ADV is more SG than PG, but it would have been good to have him on the team to play some PG if Burke left. A PG group of ADV, Albrecht, and Stauskas is very far from ideal, but it's better than just Albrecht* and Stauskas. Burke's return now leaves no gap between him and Walton, so there will always be a highly recruited PG and Albrecht on the team during the next two years.
*I'm assuming, perhaps wrongly, that Coach Beilein thought he could get Albrecht any time he wanted him.
April 11th, 2012 at 11:51 AM ^
He is a combo guard that they have been keeping in touch with for a few months. His recruitment ramped up to help at the PG if Trey left, because he can handle the ball a little bit, but as Erik said, it would not be ideal.
There is no longer an immediate need for him because they have combo guards in Stauskas and Irvin coming down the pipe.
