"Little nephews"

Submitted by Alumnus93 on

When Mike Hart once publically referred to MSU as "little brother", I was not happy about it,  because there is no more of a unifying force than saying something like that... and when you dominate an opponent, you shouldn't be crass about it. But he said it, and they ran with it. So be it.

Well,  Derrick Nix just referred to MBB as  "little nephew".....   to quote him... "We had to share it with our little nephews," center Derrick Nix said. "And that (stinks)."

Now is the time for Michigan to run with it, and let karma stick the condescension back in their faces.

MSU using "familial relationship" references is not insulting.  Mike Hart coined a phrase.  MSU players and fans can't even come up with their own material.

This is not insulting to Michigan fans.  Those who it would offend know nothing of the history of the UM/MSU rivalry.

marky mark is a punk for picking a fight with Hart.  Lil Bro will never, can never, be anything like us in any sport.  Their school sux @ss.  No one cares about lil bro.  I just wish they would go to the big east so we dont have to think about them anymore.  Shew shew lil bro.  Get along.

I mean, I guess I can see how you'd feel that way about Hart's comment but I don't even care about "little nephews".

Nix's comment was just stupid because it doesn't even make sense - little nephews? - he just couldn't come up with any real coherent diss about Michigan.

It's probably tough to talk shit about your rival when you're busy choking on a 15-point lead.

I laugh my ass off when I see stuff like this.

What Sparty will NEVER understand is that the Little Brother reference was made in context of, "they will always want to be / beat us, because they're envious of all of our attention as the bigger brother".

Big brother might have had a drug problem that caused him to go into rehab for a couple of years, but the beat downs will most assuredly be returning to the football field soon.  Basketball?  We're already there.

1) Hart never called Sparty our "little brother."  He used a little brother metaphor:

Sometimes you get your little brother excited when you're playing basketball and you let him get the lead. Then you come back and take it from him."

Minor difference? Perhaps. But yeah.

2) I'm sorry, Mr. Nix. I can't hear you over the sounds of this LARGE BANNER BEING UNFURLED IN CRISLER. You'll have to speak into the microphone.

to recognize a metaphor, did you? Hart even got a rise out of their coach! Of course, there are a few radio personalities that didn't understand it either.

A lot of people have already touched on it, but it cracks me up whenever I hear any familial reference now. Not only can they not produce their own material, instead of talking about their accomplishments, they are talking about Michigan. That makes a larger statement than anything Mike Hart could have said.

The "Little Brother" quote has stuck, and stung, because MSU really does feel like the little brother. They can call us what they want, it won't sting because, well, we're Michigan and they, well, aren't. Sounds crass and stuck up, but it is what it is. No need to respond to a player's juvenile attempt to get under our skin. The facts on the ground are, and will remain for the foreseeable future, in our favor. The most stinging rebuttal is silence.

Don't little brothers always copy off their cooler, older brothers? Not surprised at the lack of originality.

P.S. Derrick - When you've lost 30 lbs and you still look like THAT, something is seriously wrong.

I look forward to when the derivative nature of this trash talk reaches the point where "They're like our fourth cousin's stepchild" is necessary.  I'm guessing that will be the 2031 women's volleyball team.

win or lose or choke they need to comment or involve Michigan,  Can't even imagine living like that.  Very sad .... but very funny.
