Last night or UTL?

Submitted by 1464 on

So a lot of people were speaking in superlatives last night, and rightfully so.  But it has not been all that long since we've had a miracle comeback on a last second bomb.

So what was bigger for you, UTL or the Kansas game?

Both were huge games.  First night game at the Big House vs. a big rival.  First Sweet Sixteen appearance in almost 20 years.  I suppose it depends on how deep we go in the tourney.  I'm a bigger football fan, but I still can't decide.  Especially since it was a win or go home match.  I'm not even sure which was more improbable.  Down 10 with 2 minutes to go?  Down 3 with 30 seconds to go?  Hail mary vs. well... hail mary.

Also, the Kansas game was big enough it needs a title.  UTL will always be UTL.  What will the Kansas game be forever referenced as?

Super Sweet Sixteen?  The Jerryworld Redemption?  Simply, The Karma Game?  What do we call this game going forward?  I want consensus on this thread...

More implications, more improbable comeback against not only a traditional power, but one who was actually good this year. The team finally showing true grit. I'll always love UTL but last night was special.

The drama as noted was about even depending on your disposiion for FB or BB.

Nationally speaking Karma (I like that) was a bigger game. Both teams had been ranked either 1 or 2. IMMEDIATE national title implications.

Its gotta be Karma.

Both. I went a little crazier at UTL because I was there, but trying to rank them makes no sense. Both were awesome and unbelievable.

I was at UTL so I'll always be biased in favor of that.

Then again, this game was the first Michigan basketball game I'd watched beginning to end that we won, so it was nice to break that curse.

I absolutely love our football team and are glad both mbball and football are back to where they should be. But last night was absolutely one of the best moments in my life as a Michigan fan. UTL was awesome too, but there was a little more on the line in this game. Great win for sure!

UTL was more exciting, I think, just because I was there. This game though, is the moment Trey Burke said goodbye. They never gave up and continued to chip away at the lead. I love watching this team play. I was jumping around like a mad man last night, but I didn't have any words to say. I was truly speechless.

time basketball won a game like this? I can think of a number of improbable football comebacks and where a game was stolen from basketball (Indiana, Wisc this year are top of mind). However, I just can't remember anything like this, man, they needed one to show themselves they can do it.

I had the same feeling in the final minutes and afterwards for both games. So I'll say equal in my book. UTL was a big deal also, while not being a bowl game it was Brady's first big game and really catapulted that team to their great season.

Being at UTL obviously was more insane but last night was incredible. Although if I truly had to rank them I would still say UTL as that was a type of comeback unlike any other. And I have never seen the stadium and the crowd so electric

Both were amazing and left me speechless but the game last night had more importance for the basketball program in their attempt to climb back in to national prominence.

Hard to say what was the greatest...But in terms of improbable comebacks, this one takes the cake. Braylonfest has got nothing on Burkefest. Question: What did you have for Burkefest? Answer: Seared Jayhawk and a tall glass of Izzo's tears. Be sure to stop by for Brunch tomorrow. We're serving gator. It'll be crazy.

epic-improbable-defining game in recent team history for both. UTL and Kansas Karma were eerily similar. The team played poorly in general throughout the game but somehow kept the opponent in striking distance. Then near the end, with the time left and the score, there is no chance they're going to win unless Michigan BOTH gets some assistance from the opponent AND more importantly make gigantic plays. They're jewels in both Denard and Trey's "legend" crown.

Fantastic comeback, fantastic atmosphere, magical night. But If we're to be honest, neither of those teams had a shot at a national title. The winner of Burkefest....It may be one in 8(or a little worse). But it's a shot.

Time will add perspective.  Ultimately, if Michigan wins it all, than this comeback will be one of those "forever moments" in Michigan lore.  If they don't make it to the Final Four, it will be a high point for a pretty good but still disappointing season.

Win or lose tomorrow, this is a very good season.  You don't turn up your nose at an Elite Eight appearance when you hadn't even been to the Sweet 16 in 19 years.  A Final Four would make this a great season, but it's very good right now.

I was there sec 216 last night surrounded by Kansas fans and it was great, if I where setting with Mich fans it would have been much better. But UTL with 114 thou rabid M fans was amazing!!

For me, I had an experience of pure religious style joy at the conclusion of the UTL game.  It lasted thru Sunday morning.

While the setting of the Sweet Sixteen is more significant, the UTL win was more dramatic.  Teams occasionally come back from being 5 down with 20 seconds left in basketball.  But 20 seconds on your own 20?  UTL was the craziest and in that sense most glorious win ever.  Plus, UTL was a win over a hated rival rather than a respected foe.  Still, what a game last night!  Even the comparison with UTL makes it glorious.

THIS IS MICHIGAN !    Moments like these are what this is all about.

UTL was a far more improbable victory against a HATED rival, so that is still #1 for me.  The game last night was an offset to our game against IU (which would have secured a 2nd B1G title).  That and the fact that in basketball those types of endings are not rare (uh ... Madison).

Hail to the VICTORS!   Beat Florida!

Go Blue!

It really shouldn't be fair to say "it depends when we go out in the tournament" but it's sort of true. Crushing Notre Dame's hopes and dreams will always hold a special place in my heart while beating Kansas doesn't have that same appeal.

Still, after a groin shot and hearing multiple "Why so quiet??" chants from the Kansas fans makes beating them feel much much better. Right now I say UTL because of how important I felt it was for Hoke and national prominence and such, but this might become bigger.

if only because the UTL game was that much more improbable. 14 point comeback was awesome, but at UTL we were at our own 20 with like :20 seconds left. Last night's game was a more significant game but not quite as OMGEEE.

It's like comparing a 10/10 to a 9.9/10 though. Both blew my mind
