Saban's been the voice of…

Saban's been the voice of reason a lot in his old age.

Highlighting this quote:

"I want to see the players have a great quality of life and be able to create value for themselves. But we've gone to nobody talking about education, nobody talking about creating value for their future, to talking only about how much money can I make while I'm in college.

"I think the consequence of this could come down the road when some of these guys get 28 and 29 years old that maybe they didn't prepare themselves for when they can't play football anymore, which is what you should do when you go to college."

I mean, is that not reasonable?

You must've been in a bad…

You must've been in a bad section.  My section was on their feet and hollering almost all game, and we were far away from the student section.

I'll be honest, I didn't…

I'll be honest, I didn't even hear what Alabama was playing.  I just knew that they were doing their third quarter thing like we do our Blues Brothers thing, and we were not having it.  The "Let's Go Blue" chant started pretty naturally and pretty soon it was all you could hear.

Well, hopefully this means…

Well, hopefully this means we’ll stop wearing those godforsaken white away pants. Silver linings!

It's amazing to see how many…

It's amazing to see how many familiar names from the national championship team were already contributing in 2021.  What a truly special group.

In the 2011 Rose Bowl, De’Anthony Thomas had 2 carries for 155 yards and 2 touchdowns (a 91 yarder and a 64 yarder), in a game that Oregon won by 7. That was pretty wild.

This is phenomenal, thanks.

This is phenomenal, thanks.

Also confirms my suspicion that the crowd was overwhelmingly Michigan-based.  Zoom out and all you see is a sea of red because that's what pops on camera, but zoom into any Alabama section and you see a horde of infiltrated Michigan fans wearing blue.  Can't say the same in reverse for the Michigan side.

7 AM in Pasadena ready for…

7 AM in Pasadena ready for the Rose Parade… there’s a LOT more Michigan people here than Bama people.  Truly feels like Ann Arbor West.

Let’s appreciate the seven…

Let’s appreciate the seven minute drive to take the game all the way to the end.

Ball came loose, then his hand went forward. Pretty straightforward, unfortunately.

I love Coach Moore's passion…

I love Coach Moore's passion, but JJ's three worst games at QB (and it's not close) have come with Moore as head coach.  Don't know what accounts for it, but three points make a line.

Really wish that last…

Really wish that last interception had stood. Apart from that annoying last touchdown drive, the defense was phenomenal.

You know what, that does…

You know what, that does actually make me feel a lot better.

Gotta believe it would’ve…

Gotta believe it would’ve been a larger margin with Jim on the sideline. 30 straight runs was rough.

Hell of a postgame speech, though, and he got it done in the end.

For how prevalent the …

For how prevalent the "Harbaugh can't win against rivals" argument was for so long, I was surprised to learn that Dantonio had a losing record against him.

I said at the time (as a…

I said at the time (as a teacher who saw first hand how these things were going) that anyone calling for firings during a year where coaches couldn't coach the way they were used to were vastly overreacting.

This should be a fun thread…

This should be a fun thread to look back on in a few years.

...I'm very out of the loop about something.

The Michigan team that beat…

The Michigan team that beat Florida got boatraced by Ohio State a month earlier 13-42. The 2016 team played Florida State in their bowl, where they lost.

Lotta snark in the responses…

Lotta snark in the responses.

If it was an incomplete post by accident, how would Brian know except by a reader pointing it out?

Well. Lots of long explosive…

Well. Lots of long explosive plays, but atrocious stuff inside the 5. Shoulda just scored on the very first play.

Man do I wish AC played in…

Man do I wish AC played in the era of high def TV.  He was so fun to watch.

Offensive line dominant so…

Offensive line dominant so far.  It's nice to have a 3rd and short and not feel dread that there's no way a run will work.  Harbaugh's Wolverines are who Hoke wanted them to be.

Let's appreciate for a moment that Payton Thorne's season last year would have broken Michigan's all-time record for touchdowns in a season.

Until potential turns into production on the field, you can't rank Michigan's QBs above Sparty.

As I recall from…

As I recall from Brandstatter's book, Moeller actually called a shallow hitch- the corner rolled up late on Desmond, so he took off.  That's why Grbac pumps at the beginning of the play- he was expecting to throw much earlier.

Moeller was apparently horrified while the play was happening, but had no complaints after it happened.

If it's a maize-out, can we…

If it's a maize-out, can we get our maize pants back?  The blue ones were fun as an alternate, but I'm not a huge fan of how they started to become our default for our biggest games (Ohio State, Iowa, Georgia all in a row).

Tough crowd.  I laughed.

Tough crowd.  I laughed.

Some of y’all calling for…

Some of y’all calling for Harbaugh to be fired last year, this year, and even during the Ohio State game need your fan cards revoked.

Worth noting that Cade was…

Worth noting that Cade was in the medical tent when JJ went in for THAT play, if it changes how any of you feel about it.

Sure, Ohio State bad and all…

Sure, Ohio State bad and all, but I've always maintained that compared to everything else that goes on in blueblood programs, covering up for your players trading bling for tattoos is pretty small potatoes.

Well, damn.

Well, damn.

74 of those yards and 2 of…

74 of those yards and 2 of those touchdowns were against Rutgers.  A walk-on fullback also had a touchdown against Rutgers that game.  What more people remember is the plays against Ohio State and Iowa that went for 2 yards or no gain.

That being said, he was clearly a force on defense.

Just watched that game again…

Just watched that game again.  Man, Navarre had a cannon.

Hey, let's get a shoutout to…

Hey, let's get a shoutout to the crowd chanting "Ronnie! Ronnie!" after one of his catches.  That made me feel a whole wave of emotions.

That Penn State poster…

That Penn State poster reminds me that I really, REALLY miss our maize pants and I wish we'd bring them back.

On the plus side, if he does…

On the plus side, if he does turn out to suck, now we can just blame it on the voodoo curse.

He’s hoping for the Rams, or…

He’s hoping for the Rams, or so he told me when I ran into him in California.

I’m going to an event in LA tomorrow and received an email:

”Be careful with the weather, dress in extra layers... it may rain.”

The horror!

Michigan could also be fine…

Michigan could also be fine. Rising star OLB coach Al Washington would have been tough to retain this offseason; Washington, like Mattison, is a strong recruiter with deep Ohio ties and in fact was previously the Michigan coach rumored to be considering an OSU job. Mattison's departure instead should clear the way for Michigan to promote Washington up the assistant chain while returning him to his most natural coaching position; Washington was Don Brown's defensive line coach at Boston College and at most of his other stops.

Hoo boy, that aged poorly in a hurry.

Stubborn? Don Brown is the…

Stubborn? Don Brown is the king of adjustments, what are you smoking?

Their offensive gameplan was better than our defensive one, and their offensive playmakers were better than our defensive playmakers.

Offense is lacking…

Offense is lacking explosiveness. Using running backs to grind the opposition down over 4 quarters is well and good, but when you have a pair of 5* receivers in the barn and you have no plan for including them, well...

I laughed, if it makes you…

I laughed, if it makes you feel better. :(

They also don’t make you buy…

They also don’t make you buy the demo kit anymore, so there’s that. No more negative cash flow.

It'd be nice if he could NOT…

It'd be nice if he could NOT retire before we beat him one goddamn time.

I must be the only person…

I must be the only person that wasn't that ruffled by the "we outhit them" comment.  It was his second game with a team that had gone 0-12 the year before, and he was looking for positives.  They ran for almost 300 yards on Michigan's all-world defense, and we barely scraped 100.  So yeah, he emphasized that, even though they lost by 37.

No such silver linings this time around, though.

That is certainly a negative…

That is certainly a negative prediction.  Well done.
