Yay that our rival doesn't get a blue chip O lineman. Will we get him?
Thread created for TdK71 per his posting in the "Mike Martin still kicking OSU Butt" thread.

Honest question, how confident are you that Dodson will flip to OSU?
Everything I have read and been told is that it is more 50/50 than an OSU lock.
January 24th, 2012 at 6:25 PM ^
but I think Dodson winds up at Ohio State. Much better chance than 50/50, IMO. I can't remember which, but Scout's or Rivals' experts are all predicting he goes to OSU, as is 11W's version of Ace.
January 24th, 2012 at 6:41 PM ^
You must be referring to "Deuce"?
January 24th, 2012 at 8:50 PM ^
Badger fans are getting very nervous about possibly losing Dodson to OSU. They already lost JJ Denman to Rutgers today. They're mad because Coach Brett said he'd have his new coaches in place by now and they're not. The old coaches were the contacts to these O linemen.
January 24th, 2012 at 5:17 PM ^
UM fans (hell, myself included) are not above this spin. But do you really think that's the case? OSU wanted him, wanted him, wanted him, wanted him, wanted him [2 weeks pre-signing day], wanted him, wanted him, wanted him, [one week pre-signing day] I HAVE SOURED ON YOU! ?
January 24th, 2012 at 5:22 PM ^
More likely they realized that they didn't have a very good chance with him, and decided to focus their efforts on Dodson.
January 24th, 2012 at 6:55 PM ^
I usually hate when fellow OSU fans play the "OH WE DIDN'T WANT HIM ANYWAY" game, but this is a case where the OSU fanbase wanted him, but the coaching staff didn't. There has been zero contact between OSU and Diamond since his official visit more than a month ago. It's possible that it was a mutual decision, but the recruitment certainly ceased a while ago. So while us fans may have been saying we have wanted him along - it's certainly not what the OSU program was thinking.
I promise, this is the first and last time I play the "We didn't want him anyway" card.

Does Urban notify you each time he contacts a recruit?
January 24th, 2012 at 5:30 PM ^
Srsly Brah?
Ohio soured on Diamond?
He visited Columbus, you know....
(below is the South Campus Gateway in Columbus...beautiful, isn't it? Who could resist relocating to such an attractive community?)
January 24th, 2012 at 6:28 PM ^
Those buildings got torn down in the 90s.
Here's a picture of the Gateway as it looks today:
January 24th, 2012 at 7:02 PM ^
That gave me a chuckle, thanks.
Bill Greene of Scout.com says that OSU has not contacted Diamond since his last official visit (12/09/11). I'm in the camp that thinks Urban decided to shift his focus to flipping the in-state Dodson rather than a fickled Diamond. While I think Urban would love to have Diamond as well, he knows that the class is nearly full and he has to start being more selective. Personally I would like to see him cap off the class with Armani Reeves, Kyle Dodson and Stefon Diggs.
January 25th, 2012 at 1:54 AM ^
then youre in the minority of osu fans. most have been salivating over diamond for months. far more likely urban saw the writing on the wall and stopped recruiting him cause he knew there was no chance and no interest from him...given your needs on the o-line. but keep telling yourselves osu didnt end up wanting him if it makes you feel better.
January 24th, 2012 at 10:50 PM ^
Srsly, Brah. That name is funny. That said, take a look at that picture...do you seriously think that looks better? Jeebus.
January 25th, 2012 at 9:48 AM ^
new buildings look better than old, dilapidated buildings, yes I would agree with that. You hate anything OSU, I get it but W/R/T recruits, I think seeing a brand new area with restaurants, bars and shopping isn't a detraction. I'm pretty sure there aren't any 5* guys out there looking for a cosy kitch area. "Rabble, rabble, I don't like your restaurants and new buildings, I want run down places with some character, like the old days, rabble". -no recruit, ever.

He started his posting career here as @TrustsTressel.
January 24th, 2012 at 5:03 PM ^
Hoping that Blue remembers every kiss begins with Kay. Or we can just go to Jared. I want some jewelry-named recruits
January 24th, 2012 at 5:04 PM ^
Isn't OSU low on spots? Maybe they are confident in Reeves or Dodson for their last spot.
January 24th, 2012 at 6:59 PM ^
Very confident on Dodson (as in, near certainty based on what insiders are saying), but Reeves is still very much up in the air. No feel on him either way - as close to 50/50 as it gets.
In terms of spots, OSU still has plenty due to attrition (already announced publicly, and future transfers that haven't been made public yet). They will accept as many as want to come. If I had to guess, I would say 4 more players - making it a class total of 26 once you figure in Roger Lewis going the JUCO route.
January 24th, 2012 at 5:07 PM ^
Hopefully Diamond goes Blue. (Or is it the Blue Hope Diamond?)
Wouldn't mind seeing Dodgson follow Diamond's lead and also drop OSU!
January 24th, 2012 at 5:35 PM ^
What are the chances that he ends up at msu?
January 24th, 2012 at 5:11 PM ^
Diamond showed little love for OSU, and the same in return. My guess is Urban realized they were longshots for him, and continuing to pursue him was hurting their chances with Dodson.
The bucknuts are confident on Dodson, but I wouldn't be surprised if he went to Wisky.
January 24th, 2012 at 5:12 PM ^
Hope theres corroboration other than devidee's claim that osu cooled on Diamond...he was a notorious troll at EDSBS awhile back...not the most trustworthy source.
January 24th, 2012 at 5:20 PM ^
January 24th, 2012 at 5:27 PM ^
I would be surprised, because we have 5 spots left.
January 24th, 2012 at 5:36 PM ^
any chance one of these OL can play DT?
January 24th, 2012 at 5:23 PM ^
January 24th, 2012 at 5:33 PM ^
I'd like to see a quote from Diamond himself on the situation. He is announcing after NSD so it would not make too much sense for OSU to drop him in hopes of gaining a more favorable position with another OL recruit. They could just wait till after NSD to see where Dodson goes and then decide to drop.
January 24th, 2012 at 5:41 PM ^
I saw it mentioned elsewhere that there is an article somewhere on the internets that he is telling the schools of his decision on 1-31, and announcing publicly on 2-3.
January 24th, 2012 at 5:39 PM ^
Hope we are now i the pole position. In any event, we will not be lining up against this guy in late November for the next 4-5 years.
January 24th, 2012 at 5:42 PM ^
This has probably been posted a dozen times, but Wiscy lost Denman to Rutgers. Wonder how that plays into Diamond's decision (or Dodson's)
January 24th, 2012 at 5:53 PM ^
Bucknuts must be pissed! I'd say he's UM bound!!!
January 24th, 2012 at 6:03 PM ^
Someone is saying on bucknuts that an inside source said that Meyer quit recruiting him because he heard that Diamond is asking for money to play at their school. Hahaha they will go to any length to rationalize on why someone wont play there
January 24th, 2012 at 6:05 PM ^
"dick" what they say disgusts me sometimes.
January 24th, 2012 at 7:03 PM ^
Urban probably misunderstands what "you couldn't pay me enough to go to Ohio" means.
January 24th, 2012 at 10:52 PM ^
They certainly have set the bar on negotiating that amount...
January 25th, 2012 at 1:47 AM ^
thats tough for urban since im pretty sure osu boosters got slapped by the ncaa with a one-year probation from paying players, as has been par for the course for a decade. poor urbie :(
January 25th, 2012 at 9:09 AM ^
that if you go to OSU you get money, free tats, a Charger and cool loaners on occasion just for something different, and then there is the loose and free girls at the tat parlor as well.
So when the recruits find out OSU now has to look clean for a few years while everyone is watching, they are all let down and stuff.
If Diamond was really looking for the Pryor treatment, does anyone believe the seemingly minor, isolated instances or minor malfeasance did not manifest a recruiting advantage for Ohio State during the Tressel era?
All that semi-sarcastically said: Buckeye fans are saying we don't want him, he asked for money is a pretty hilarious concept.
January 24th, 2012 at 5:57 PM ^
I'm betting he ends up at Arkansas.
I think we will finish with the following recruits: Grant, Garnett, Reeves and some guy.
January 24th, 2012 at 6:07 PM ^
RURAL MEYER..that is all
January 24th, 2012 at 6:13 PM ^
247 reporting Chizik is visiting Diamond, so we'll see how this shakes out.
January 24th, 2012 at 6:14 PM ^
PLEASE! I hate the freakin SEC
January 24th, 2012 at 6:14 PM ^
5* OLs eventually make 3*s RBs in to 5* performers.
January 24th, 2012 at 6:16 PM ^
Reject the Buckeye's. So, this is good news for Michigan.
January 24th, 2012 at 6:37 PM ^
Our O-line will be truly a immoveable object with the addition of all the studs Hoke and Co, are bringing in :-)
January 24th, 2012 at 7:50 PM ^
No it will be an unstoppable force
January 24th, 2012 at 7:09 PM ^
Well done Mr. Diamond, well done. You made the same good choice thousands of other fine young men made by saying NO to Ohio State.
January 24th, 2012 at 8:42 PM ^
Great news
January 24th, 2012 at 9:14 PM ^
Sure Urban soured on Diamond. Just like Hoke soured on Dunn and Dantonio soured on every 4 & 5* recruit in the nation.
January 24th, 2012 at 9:56 PM ^
Checking that 247 board makes you really appreciate the general quality of discussion on MGoBlog. The so-called Michigan fans on that site are as obnoxious as the Buckeye fans which is saying a lot.
January 24th, 2012 at 11:05 PM ^
screw o-lie-o we will take all of the manball lineman and then dominate the pathetic defence and cram it right up the gut of their defence.
