Ideas for Harbaugh's Next SEC-Trolling Move

Submitted by BursleyHall82 on

So we got their attention with the satellite camps and the spring-break practices in Florida. Since they're probably going to ban the spring-break practices for next year - and maybe even the satellite camps - what should Harbaugh's next SEC-trolling move be?

Here's my idea: Next spring, we have TWO spring games - one at Michigan Stadium, and one at Sun Life Stadium in Miami, where the Dolphins play (I'm guessing Stephen Ross would go along with this).

I checked the NCAA rulebook, and there's nothing that would prohibit it. They allow you to have three full-contact scrimmages during the spring, and that's it. Most teams use one of those full-contact scrimmages for their spring game. So we use two of those full-contact scrimmages for spring games.

And since they'll ban us from scrimmaging over spring break, we hold the Miami Spring Game on a weekend. The team flies down Friday night, they play the game on Saturday night, and they fly back on Sunday night after spending the day at the beach.

The following weekend, we have the second spring game at Michigan Stadium.

That's my idea. What's yours?

I doubt they actually will ban spring break practices, as many other ncaa sports practice and play during spring break and during midterms and finals, and football already practices and plays during major holidays. If midterms and finals and Christmas and new years aren't "sacred" and off limits to NCAA sports activity, then I have a very very very hard time imagining spring break suddenly becoming the 1 off limits exception for only football. They might throw it out there, and even try, but it's laughable and likely wouldn't stand up if challenged. It'd be a PR nightmare for the NCAA to try.

Just for laughs, here's Michigan Baseball's first 19 games.

  • 2/19-2/21 (4 games) vs Canisius in Port St. Lucie, FL
  • 2/26 against Saint Joseph's in Santa Clara
  • 2/27 at Cal Poly
  • 2/28 at Santa Clara
  • 2/29 at Cal
  • 3/2 at San Jose State
  • 3/3-3/5 at UC Davis
  • 3/10-3/12 (4 games) at Hawaii
  • 3/18-3/20 at Oklahoma State

Piss off, SEC.

Not that I'm defending the SEC, because I'm fine with the spring practices ini Florida, but these games are a part of the Baseball team's regular season. The more apt comparison would be if the baseball team went to Florida during Fall Practice. Back in my college baseball days, we always had a spring trip as part of our regular season, but all of our fall practices were at home.

None of these gimmicks Jim is deploying win games. When your rival beats ya by 4 touchdowns, things better get better in hurry. He needs to focus on winning. Until Michigan can win games against rivals this extra stuff is just silly. Jim is  turning Michigan into a laughing stock.

I had thoughtbthe same thing when the spring break trip was announced. Why not have a "Hoke-style" spring game down in FL, where its still mostly drills, since an actual game could be ugly after just a few practices. You could involve Dolphin Stadium or even a large high school (IMG) and make a BBQ-style recruiting event on the road. Hit up CA and TX in future years and keep the train rolling.

Step 1: poop in paper bag. Step 2: go to Sankey's house with poop bag. Step 3: light bag on fire on front porch, ring bell, run. Old Man Sankey will freak out...

He should start showing up at Michigan baseball and softball games down in SEC country and shine a light on the stupid hypocrisy of the SEC. The SEC likes to stack all the rules in their favor to keep other conferences at a disadvantage.
