I remember watching an utterly dominant (post eligibility) Jerad Ward destryoing it in the CCRB. Dunks, layups, he was scoring at will. I didn't understand why he wasn't in the NBA. Then he started shooting from futher away and it became clearer.

"Pigs" is a pretty good term to associate with an organization that tries to harm the amature eligibility of unsigned draft picks.

If just dad did it after all the protest from mom that one signature could harm their family dynamic for a really long time.
I don't think we have enough information to be talking in this thread about what they should or should not let him do. Obviously people (even under aged) should be able to activly make or at least be involved in the choices that shape their lives, but there are all sorts of reasons that 17 year olds aren't considered legally independant and 18 year olds who are independant can harm themselves doing things they wouldn't have considered years later.

She shouldn't have to defend herself for wanting what she thinks is best for her kid. She may be right or wrong about what IS best, but she obviously cares and is putting in the effort.

Yeah I also hate it when engineering students get paid in the summer commensurate with their engineering skills and I hate it when film students make films in between semesters and get money for their skillsets. THIS SHOULD NOT HAPPEN! The best way they can represent their schools is to be grossly underpaid and suck it up.

It really shows how messed up recruiting is that this post of yours could be seen as hilarious or a horrorifying statement of fact.

I'm getting sick of our athletic department's of 'eat our garbage' attitude. Then they just lie about it when they're called out. Now they're trying to force people to be quiet behind closed doors because they know they're doing the wrong thing but want to do it anyway.
I think what's most dissapointing to me is they've hurt my opinion of them so much that anytime a flame of controversy pops up, I assume they're in the wrong and they did something greed-related before I even hear all the details. My thinking used to be the exact opposite.
I've noticed myself getting less passionate about U of M sports because of this. It really bothers me. When they do something to screw the students or community, it doesn't seem surprising anymore so instead of angry I just feel a little more detached.

I don't know what's worse:
A) The people who think booing and telling players they suck will 'wake them up' and make them magically good again. As if all they were waiting for was: You, the big special guy who paid blabbity blah for a ticket to whip them into shape from the stands.
B) The people who are directly calling or implicitly calling other posters names like "asshole" because they aren't living up to the glorious 'Michigan Standard' which apparently does not say anything about passing around the word asshole like it's candy.
Look it's ok to be frustrated during frustrating time. It's ok to express displeasure or dissagreement with the current situation, or how people are handling the situation. Doing so is a good thing. But adding to the poison is not.
We expect the players and coaches we cheer for to rise above adversity and to figure out workarounds when they don't have all the proper tools. Why can't try to avoid melting to pieces too?
We all want the team to be better and it seems to me the only thing we can do to have any actual impact on that is to be a great community. Great communities attract and nurture talent. The what's happening lately amonst ourselves is helping matters in that regard.

You raise a good point. I'd been thinking GA but I'm sure they'll figure out some way to sock the richer European countries with liscensing fees.
A few other points:
We can't play Michigan State because a Spartan riot would have global ramifications.
All living recruits from all classes will be on unofficial visits (so we better win).
If we lose it will be the students' fault.

The game takes place in a wall-less field dubed "Open Earth Stadium." Stephen Ross purchases all the admissions for a penny a each and "donates" them to the global population population.
Offical attendance over 7 billion, the game makes 70 million plus at the "gate," and the band still isn't invited as a cost-savings measure.

Agreed. A lot of the bashing of the students is equivalent to the stalker girl with the crazy eyes making the "just love me because I need you to love me" argument. If you want to attract people you actually have to attract them. You can't just compel or guilt them.

|24 weeks 1 day ago||I just don't get why we need||
I just don't get why we need to find more and more ways to take student athletics away from the students while simultaniously insulting them for being lazy, or selfish, or whatever. College athletics should not be about treating the actual college people like garbage. Other schools that treat their students poorly in no way justifies treating our students poorly.
This is a University that claims to hold itself to a higher standard claiming to be "the leaders and best." Well, leaders and best don't race to the bottom just because others put together a couple nickels by setting up shop there.
This expediency for currency isn't just an attack on the students, it's an assault on all of us as alumni, because it tarnishes what the University is supposed to stand for. Our athletic department may not be hiding the type of bodies you'd expect to dig up in the SEC, but more and more they're dirtying their hands. We can't high five this behaviou and expect to keep clean ourselves.
|24 weeks 3 days ago||" I'm certain these||
" I'm certain these improvements have, and will continue to draw in bigger and brighter minds and athletes. You get what you pay for. "
The brighter minds part of this argument is ridiculous. Upgrading the indoor track facility, for example, leads to a better track program, but it virtually no bearing on attracting non track academic talent of any kind. If the goal was to attract scientists for example, they'd upgrade lab facilities.
You're giving us an underpants gnome argument:
1. Upgrade athletic campus
3. Scientists, poets, and inventors!
