Engagement on this site

It is midway through the Memorial Day weekend and the threads on the board are uncontroversial and lightly commented on. They seem bland and narrowly conceived.  This seems like a trend for the past many months.

I am an occasional visitor these days, but I come here for some pithy and weird exchanges and I leave feeling that what was once a funny and lively site is now an empty suit.

I suppose that this is a stupid post, but I really miss the old MGoblog. Also, I am currently (and heavily) sampling my bourbon collection and as a direct result, may just be pathetically missing something that never really existed.

It’s almost like banning XtraMelanin and WolverineDevotee has led the board to become less interactive.

Actions have consequences.

Everyone hates on ace and I did too for awhile

Then I stepped back to think of things from Aces side ( or at least what I imagine to be Aces side)

I don't know anything about the gofundme stuff. I wasn't a part of it

I do know that if I had an audience like Ace had I would absolutely use my social media and mgoblog for that matter to address things that are important to me. Plus its his social media so nobody is making us follow him

I think most of us would do the same thing.

Sorry for the tl;dr

My issue with Ace is not his speaking out.  I generally agree with most of what he says.  My issue with Ace is that he acts unhinged with how he chooses to speak out.  He blocked me and hundreds (thousands maybe?) of people for "liking" certain tweets on twitter.  He actually went thru lists upon lists of people and took the time to do this.  I can't look at MGoBlog's tweets now, which big fucking deal I know, but it's just things like that that are insane to me.

Anyone who holds a differing opinion than him is automatically stupid and/or evil and deserves his wrath, it seems like.  He is petty and angry all the time.  Just a really unpleasant dude.

"Anyone who holds a differing opinion than him is automatically stupid and/or evil and deserves his wrath, it seems like.  He is petty and angry all the time.  Just a really unpleasant dude."

This encapsulates the whole thing.  Any disagreement with Ace, and he labels you for life, banning you from MGoBlog forever.  I don't recall him being this way before the Go Fund Me, or at least not as bad.  But since then he seems entitled, like he has some royal place that can never be removed because of his 'popularity' - as evidenced by the amount of money donated and the wishes for good health and recovery.

He's, apparently, a really good friend of Brian's, so he's not going anywhere.  And that kind of familiarity breeds contempt for others over time.  You can hear it in his attitude on the podcasts...  Poor Seth (who's every bit as good a writer and far more knowledgable about football) defends him all day long, yet Ace treats him like shit when they're on together.

I don't regret donating to the GFM.  I do regret the person he's been becoming, and I won't donate again if it comes to that.  (BTW, I'm not twittering, so I don't care what happens in that cesspool...)

Hate to say it but I've noticed that too. I never talk to anyone IRL about mgoblog so didn't know if it's just me or what. Seth's a champ, though, always upbeat and ready to contribute regardless of anything

There are examples in his post history of people asking him if he's black and him not correcting them and letting them think he is.  He also used/uses his kids skin color to try and lend credibility to his terrible politics.

That's cringey as fuck at least.  Not sure why everyone is so butt hurt about not interacting with someone who is playing those kinds of games.

I didn’t really care if he was black, white, Asian, Hispanic.  I appreciated his Friday night posts and occasional NFL pick’em posts.  I must have missed a lot of his commentary in the Covid threads, as I never saw XM as a controversial guy.  Hope he’s enjoying some red pop this Memorial Day weekend.

It's hard to post because the archive doesn't go back that far and many of his posts were removed.

But I can give you one example. He posted a baseless conspiracy theory in 2016 that multiple cases of attacks on police officers in Dallas (fatal attacks you may remember, including one ambush that killed 5 officers) were actually acts of religious terrorism by a certain minority religion of which, shall we say, he held a very dim view (that is the understatement of the year).

I replied to him something along the lines of "what is this conspiracy nonsense? Did you get this right off Breitbart or some white nationalist site?" and he replied "Why would I be a white nationalist? I have Xtra Melanin." I always thought it was odd because he had similar posts elsewhere but never came right out and said he was black, always danced around with this melanin silliness.

So there you go. That was pretty clearly with intent to mislead.

I would/will agree with you if this were true. Can you share a link to a post where he did that? I admit to not knowing his kids were adopted. And yes, I assumed he was a black man based on their skin color (avatar).

And Yes, I found his stance on certain things (esp law enforcement) more interesting because I thought he was a black man...

But that doesn’t mean he was pretending to be a black man. And maybe he does have a different perspective than most white people having adopted (at least) two black kids. So, there is that.

Regardless, for Ace to say he was masquerading as a black man is 100% bullshit. You don’t meet people IRL if you are trying to pass yourself as a black man! Maybe XM isn’t as caught up in identifying as a “white” vs “black” man because he doesn’t see skin color as an identity.

By all accounts XM was a decent human being. IMO that’s the most important thing.

Forget about whether he supported  moron-Trump or idiot-Biden. Forget about whether he was anti vaccine. There are millions of people kn both of these camps. Some really smart and decent people. Some of whom I k ow personally. I don’t shake my head (or fist) at them - I just shrug my shoulders.

Different strokes, you know!?!?
