Heresy: A Deal With The Devil

I understand this is a Michigan sports blog, and as such, I expect to get negged to oblivion, but what if you got to choose:

A. Michigan national championship win this year

B. Detroit Lions Superbowl win this year

Which do you choose? I think I'd have to choose the Lions because of how putrid they've historically been and also, I think it might be celebrated as one of the greatest United States sports championships ever.

Thoughts?

Fuck the NFL, Michigan all the way!

Also, I have an Anchorage Brewing A Deal with the Devil queued up for tomorrow (well two of them a regular and a triple oaked). Go Blue!

Michigan is playing for a national title tomorrow.

The Lions are the 5th or 6th best team in the NFL (at best) and need 4 wins to win the Super Bowl.

Why on Earth would I put all my chips on the Lions?

I'll take Michigan.  The Lions window is still open and easier to rebuild.

Nonetheless, Sam LaPorta just injured his knee - it bent backwards, clearly visible on replay.  He walked off the field, but I can't believe it wasn't damaged in some bad ways.

yeah Michigan all the way. Even if you like both teams the exact same amount. Winning a super bowl is much easier in a league that has a draft and a salary cap as opposed to one where its all about recruiting and the whims of 17 year olds plus a regular season bad loss can sink your season. Now winning a super bowl isn't easy, but it is much, much easier than winning a college national championship. Peak roster years with an NFL caliber QB come around once a generation, the lions team next year will be more or less the same as this year.

This obviously boils down to "who is your favorite team?" This isn't like Michigan has won so many championships isn't time for the Lions to win one. If we win the next five titles you can ask me after that. I mean, my answer will still be Michigan but at least I'd understand the question better.

The Lions don't have to win the Super Bowl to have a successful season. They just won their first division title since 1993. If they win a playoff game, it will be the first one since 1991. If that's all they get, it will still be their best season in three decades. I'll gladly take that.

Whereas with Michigan, I want it all. Now.

GO BLUE!

I'm the biggest Lions fan in the world, and even I wouldn't contemplate such a trade.

A national championship for Michigan, especially given all the BS they've been subjected to this year, would be heavenly.

Michigan hands down!

First, not all of us are Lions fans, I’ve always had my rooting interests in the Bears.

Secondly, count me in the faction who doesn’t really care about the NFL that much but when I do it’s for the Bears.

Third, I’m all about Michigan and I want to see them win above all else!!!

I don't give two shits about the Detroit Lions (I was a Steelers fan back when I cared about Pro Football), so pretty obviously...Michigan.

I think you are incorrectly assuming that most people on here will be Lions fans, which I doubt, while I feel confident in assuming that pretty much everyone (except the few fans of other teams who peruse these boards) is a Michigan fan.

I, too, have random mental diarrhea from time to time. I just try to avoid sharing the gory details with everyone when I do.

As a lifelong casual Lions fan, I could care less what they do at this point. They made the playoffs and won their division.  A playoff win would be cool but not expected.

Michigan win this year because JJ, Blake, etc deserve it.  Lions are at least 1 year away IMO.  This is our best/only chance with UofM as I expect rebuilding and a step back next year.
