How backed up is I-94 at 10:30am

Submitted by Harbaugh2Kolesar on October 19th, 2021 at 9:57 PM

We are parking at Lucky's Market(Stadium, block east of State) and coming from Westland.  We won't be able to leave until around 10am.  Just wondering how far I-94 is backed up at that time.  I was hoping to take westbound Mich Ave to I-94 and get on US-23 North to Stadium exit and taking that all the way to Lucky's.

Is 94 backed up past 23 at that time?  Would I be better off just taking Michigan Ave through Ypsi and taking Packard out of Ypsi up until Stadium?

Also, thought about taking Ford Rd. all the way to M-14 to US-23 South to Washtenaw/Stadium.

I've got some health issues and being in a car for too long can exacerbate them.  I know, I picked a hell of a time to leave for the game. Lol. But, that's kind of out of my hands and I'm just trying to find a route that minimizes my time in the car.

Thanks all!

Sciatica sucks. I work out and run, use a standing desk, I'm 25, and the day after replacing some bushes I woke up and couldn't stand/sit and my leg was both numb and in a ton of pain. Happened a month ago and still am dealing with the hip pain from it, but it is only 10% of what it originally was.

Very.  I'm from Westland too, here's your route: Michigan Ave west to Ypsi, then pick up Cross, which becomes Packard. Take Packard until it starts to veer north toward Stadium.  Left onto Jewett (appropriate for the day!), park there for free. 20ish minute walk to the stadium from there.

GLV is following two good principles:

* You should always drive around football traffic in Ann Arbor. There's rarely any point in being in a slow-moving parade. The town just isn't that big and it's easy to find less-congested routes that aren't that much longer than the original one.

* If you're able-bodied, you can easily park free and walk (not necessarily far) to the stadium. Position yourself well and you'll have easy traffic on the back end even after spending 20+ minutes walking. Burns Park is a good example.

If you take Ford in anyway, probably don't want to bother with 23. Back roads can do most of the work for you. Some good suggestions here.

Of course, I'm not a great source. I usually came from the west side of town, and I never, ever, ever took major highways or roads.

Romulus resident here (but an Ann Arbor native), so not terribly far away from you.

If you take Ford, then take it all the way to where it meets with Plymouth near its terminus at M-14. Turn onto westbound Plymouth-Ann Arbor, then follow that all the way through Dixboro Village (you'll pass the western terminus of Cherry Hill Road), over US-23 and then to Huron Parkway.

Here's where this gets a bit funky, but bear with me because it has worked for me before, weirdly enough.

Turn south onto Huron Parkway, then right onto Fuller. Follow Fuller all the way to where it turns into Glen, then take Glen south to East Huron (you'll be right at the foot of the Biosciences Building).

Take a left, and East Huron will almost immediately become Washtenaw Avenue. Follow Washtenaw all the way to Brockman Boulevard.

Brockman is residential, so it's a slow, meandering road. You'll cross East Stadium near St. Francis. Keep south-ish on Brockman all the way to Packard, then take a left onto Packard, then an almost immediate right onto Rosewood. More homes, imagine that, eh?

Follow Rosewood to S. Industrial. You should be about 500-ish feet south of what was, until recently, Lucky's Market. It's being converted into something else now.

The Michigan Avenue route probably works a bit better - you could even follow Michigan Avenue all the way to Platt (just a few miles outside of Saline) and then take Platt north to Packard, then left into Packard and pick up Jewett from there too. I've actually done that as well. Anything to avoid I-94 on game days really.

I'm actually a fan of 94 to 23N to Washtenaw.  Right onto Washtenwaw, right to Carpenter, down to Packard, then right and follow it into the neighborhoods north of Stadium.

Two wrongs don't make a right, but 3 rights make a left.

Good luck and Go Blue!

Download Waze

Enter your destination

Enter the time you would like to arrive, or depart

It will tell you how long the back up is on that day at that time, possibly even for football Saturdays. It will at least do it once traffic backs up. It will show you the best route.

Or google maps.  Insert shrug

Enjoy the game

Not sure how it gets put in originally, but once you pass the police points it will ask you if they're still there or not and you just tap yes/no on a quick pop up. I also wouldnt be stopping or paying too much attention to log where they are but Ill always update the information as I pass.

Waze and Google maps use realtime traffic flow information from all their users to determine the fastest route.  This doesn’t require any user input and is the most valuable feature

Waze also allows users to report specific hazards like police or a stalled car. These reports are not used for routing but come in handy when on the road. They are the ones where you also have to wonder if the reporting itself causes a hazard. Waze tries to minimize the interaction and also suggest a passenger do the reporting.

I became a dedicated user of Google Maps when traveling up the I5 for 4 hours.  There are no alternative routes at all normally on I5, it’s just a straight shot, but I accidentally had google maps running at the time. Suddenly in the middle of nowhere, Google Maps suggested an alternative route at the next exit. There was no visible traffic backup ahead but I took it anyway out of curiosity.  After traveling on 3 different country roads with barely any other cars, I was routed back on to I5 about 2 exits north. It turns out there was an accident just south of where I got back on and I could see the traffic was stopped and backed up for miles, I avoided about a 1-2 hour delay and when I got back on I was the only car.

Since then I always have a map program running to avoid backups. Every once in a while I am re-routed.  Waze seems to have slightly faster routes on occasion.

semi-unrelated traffic question:  is geddes open now?  that was my 'back way' but vs. rutgers the road was closed near huron high.  has that problem been fixed?

In the voice of a 16-year-old

"Backed up like yo momma's ass"

In all seriousness, it can get really bad both directions.  Plan on quite a bit of time in traffic.
