I think we beat OSU 27-24. I think PSU leads MSU at halftime and gets me really excited, and that I skip getting postgame stromboli at Stadium Liquor and speed home like a maniac to see the second half on TV. Then the wheels come off for PSU sometime late in the third quarter and MSU cruises to a 10 or 14 point victory, and I am pissed for the rest of the day, both about the result and about the fact that I missed out on stromboli.

I've been nervous about this one for weeks. I keep catching myself checking in on PSU every Saturday and hoping they look terrible. I'll take a win, any win (paired with an OSU win over MSU), no matter how ugly. I just want to see this team have the chance to play against OSU in the Big House with something other than pride on the line. My heart is saying 27-23 Michigan. My head is saying we lose a close one :-(

To be fair, we had the punt return hemmed in and Stribling flat out blew an easy tackle. Hard to put that on Baxter

I went to Michigan @ Indiana in 2010, a game we won 42-35. For those who don't remember, we scored with about 20 seconds left to win, and Denard accounted for almost 500 yards on offense.
After the game, I was standing at the urinal when multiple Indiana fans started talking trash to me about our defense. I zipped it up, gave a quick "scoreboard", and exited the bathroom. One guy was so incensed that he followed me all the way to the gates telling me how badly Michigan sucked, and saying that he was actually an OSU fan (he was wearing an IU jersey), and that he couldn't wait for The Game.
On the walk back to the car, MULTIPLE Indiana fans pulled up next to me in their cars and went off on completely unprovoked, profanity-laced tirades. I'm not entirely sure what pushed them over the edge as they had been so docile during the game, but I'm guessing that coming pretty close to ending a historically long losing streak against us and then coming up short probably had something to do with it.

The ball is smaller and lighter at younger ages and is kicked by smaller and lighter players, so everything is relative. I am not a doctor, but I have coached for 12 years and have never witnessed a single player get a concussion after heading the ball with proper technique. And introducing a new body part 6 or 7 years into a player's career is begging for that player to use improper technique.
|2 weeks 18 hours ago||This is stupid.||
This is stupid. Many header-related concussions occur because players use improper technique, sometimes lowering the head like a charging bull and allowing the ball to strike the crown of their skull. Many young players and even high school players are afraid to head the ball and end up as the nail rather than the hammer. Youth and teen players also often "compress their spring" prematurely by shying away from the ball and tucking their neck back between their shoulders.

Probably low 20s. And it does matter, everyone saying it doesn't is just stung from the heartbreaking loss. Recruiting is the lifeblood of your program and recruits often care whether a team is ranked or not. If it matters to recruits, it matters.

Mexico has beaten the US on US soil exactly twice in this millennium, and one of those games was against a B squad. Casual US fans who don't often interact with Mexican fans might not understand just how cursed El Tri and their fans believe themselves to be when it comes to this rivalry. They truly believe they are the more talented team, but that the refs or some unlucky bounce of the ball or some act of God will ultimately rob them in the end. That sort of mentality affects their confidence in these massive rivalry clashes and this game will be no different.

I think he meant he doesn't want them returned if the ball goes past the LOS (where it can only be returned by the defense, who can also leave it alone and have it blown dead). I seriously doubt they won't allow players to return blocked kicks that stay behind the LOS. That wouldn't make much sense.

Isn't this blog's irreverent sense of humor one of the reasons most of us keep coming here? It's a joke. Brian is not going to torpedo some kid's career prospects. Sheesh, people need to lighten up. I can't believe that the term "cyber bullying" has even found its way into this conversation. What an antiseptic P.C. world we live in.

This obviously sucks for Mike Weber, but we have a running back, and he seems like the kind of guy who will embrace "the team, the team, the team." I'm excited about Karan Higdon.

If this is true, it seems as though the coaching staff will likely ask one of our current DBs to take a redshirt to help mitigate the massive roster dropoff in the secondary that is coming down the road. So, who are the likely candidates?

The Tigers lost Thursday and Friday. Michigan lost last night, the Lions just lost. The 2 two travel soccer teams I coach EACH lost 2 games a piece this weekend, all by 1 goal. So I am currently in the midst of an 0-8 weekend.

I went to elementary school with a guy named Ryan Cook. In 2nd grade, he lied to me and said the Red Wings beat the Penguins 105-101 the night before, and I wrote it in my journal. I still feel stupid for believing him.

I've been a fan all my life, and no amount of losing will ever change that. I'll be there on Saturday to cheer until I lose my voice and to watch my team hoist the Little Brown Jug.
|1 year 22 weeks ago||Klinsmann||
I honestly can't believe people are trying to put the late game collapse on Klinsmann. This isn't American football where a coach calls plays. He's confined to his technical area, and I can guarantee that if he were screaming instructions at the top of his lungs in the waning moments of that game, a person standing 10 feet away couldn't have heard him in that stadium. For all you know, he could have been yelling at Bradley to launch the ball into the corner.

Surprised to see no one has said The Claddagh in Livonia yet. There were easily over 300 for USA-Algeria in 2010 and for Monday's game as well, it was great a great atmosphere. They've got plenty of TVs and a big projection screen if you're lucky enough to get a centrally located seat.

|2 years 1 week ago||Kinda bummed||
Kinda bummed to see this thread has less comments than the offense and coaching threads. People would rather discuss the negative things that happened today than the positive things. The defense has put us in a position to win for the last two weeks and deserves a ton of credit, especially with all the youth we're running out there. They got the ball back with enough time for the offense to put together the game tying drive and delivered the knockout punch in OT. Game ball goes to the D.
|2 years 2 weeks ago||My answer||
My answer to anyone whenever this subject comes up in conversation: I'm glad it happened for the simple fact that the Big Ten got a "re-do" on divisional alignment. Michigan and OSU absolutely HAD to be in the same division. Think about this scenario for a second: say we won last Saturday against MSU, won our next 3, and lost the OSU game, and MSU won out (not an unlikely scenario at all if Saturday had gone differently). MSU would be headed to the Big Ten Championship Game while we sat home due to the fact that they don't play OSU or PSU this year.
There will always be inequities with a divisional setup, but Michigan's protected crossover with OSU would have placed them at a perpetual disadvantage to Sparty, whose protected crossover is with almighty Indiana. The reboot that the Maryland and Rutgers additions have provided will create a clearer path for Michigan to get to the Big 10 title game (many years the winner of the M-OSU game will go) while simultaneously plummeting MSU into irrelevancy (does anyone really believe they'll ever win a division with M, OSU, and PSU standing in the way?). Therefore, I like the Maryland and Rutgers additions.
|2 years 4 weeks ago||Make the spread less... spread||
One subtle but likely effective change would be to bring in the field 2.5 yards on each side, thereby reducing the total width of the field by 5 yards. This keeps all of the on-field goings-on in tact and isn't as obvious to the casual observer, but would decrease the amount of space an offense has to exploit/defense has to cover.
