Hoke should be fired NOW for the way he handled Morris

Submitted by Mr. Yost on

I'm almost in tears with my stomach turned inside out. That was the most disgusting sequence I think I've ever seen. It was a coach who didn't have a CLUE and I pray to God Morris is okay.

He should be fired for wins and losses, yes. But he should be fired NOW for that sequence. I don't trust him with the well-being of the players. How can you look a parent in the eye after that?

That was gross.

The kid was hurt POSSESSIONS before he got drilled and almost fell over. THEN Gardner's helmet comes off and he puts Morris back in!? Call timeout, take a penalty, let someone else take a snap, run out there yourself and hope no one notices...but don't put the kid back in!

What the hell just happened? My God, that poor kid.

Football is a violent sport, I get that...injuries happen. But that was sickening.

Agreed.  I said last week in the thread about how "Hoke should be given a graceful exit" that Hoke is not that great of a person.

He just proved me right.  That was a sick thing for him to do.  He needs to go now. Shane's father should punch him in the mouth for endangering his kid.

That was awful. I just hope Morris realizes those boos were not directed at him, rather Hoke and the handling of that situation. I do absolutely respect Morris for wanting to keep playing, AND going back out. But that was atrocious by Hoke. Terrible judgement.

I was also almost in tears watching him struggle out there. That is probably partially fueled by how depressing this program is right now, but it was hard to watch that Morris sequence. I'm truly surprised how Hoke handled that.

100% agree.  That series made me physically nauseous watch.  To endanger a student athlete so needlessly should be grounds for immediate dismissal.  The kid could barely stand, and had to be held up by his own guys on the sidelines.  And  yet Hoke keeps him in the game.

I started grilling at halftime because, I mean, well you all saw it.

I finished around the same time all this Morris stuff was happening and I got halfway finished with my first brat when "it" happened. I seriously can't eat and feel like I should throw up.

I can't believe a grown man would do that. He should resign or be fired for that.

It didn't catch anyone off guard, Morris was hurt for 3 possessions prior with a foot or leg injury. Hoke should've pulled him when he was hobbling around and could barely move. I mean, why did he leave him in then?

Then he gets hit hard on that leg and he can barely walk...but Hoke leaves him in. THEN the late hit that should've been an ejection? That should've never happened because he shouldn't have been in. Was I the only one watching Morris on that rollout? He could barely move before he got drilled.

After all that, he has to be helped off the field. Beaten up way more than he should've been. He makes it out...and a few plays later when Gardner has to come up for a play due to a dumb rule, Hoke still puts Morris back in.

I'm speechless.

There are only 2 conclusions:

1)  Hoke is such a complete and total moron that he couldn't notice that his QB could barely walk.

2) He's a complete asshole.

Either way, I want him out of Ann Arbor now.   I'm not sure I've ever seen a Michigan coach do anything that unbelievably reckless with a player before.  If I were Shane Morris' dad, if Hoke remained the coach I would have him transfer.

His handling of Morris was disgusting. Shane was limping a long time ago. More evidence he hasn't the slightest of a clue, but even more egregious because this blunder is dealing with the safety and well being of your player.

Aside from the fact you posted this nearly 20 times, I'm glad to hear this from someone who claims to have been a Hoke supporter! Unconscionable, incompetent, oblivious, fill in your own negative descriptors. Grounds for suspension or even dismissal. If only Nuss and the entire offensive staff didn't look equally clueless and culpable. Don't really know what "the process" should be here? Anyone?

Agreed - leaving Shane in with an obvious leg injury and potential concussion was CRIMINAL.  I'm absolutely furious that Hoke in his stubborness put the health of kid in jeopardy.  He needs to go on Monday.

This doesn't make Hoke a "bad" person. Just an incompetent one. And while I generally don't think things are quite as chaotic or clueless as peanut-gallery fans make things out to be, this is one instance where it seems that either Hoke was stubborn because he yanked Gardner, or completely unable to properly manage the situation.

And both of those are reasons he needs to be fired.

And I think we're approaching the threshold where, even in college where coaches are almost never fired midseason, he may need to be fired in midseason.

I know it's somewhat of an overreaction, but I'm not a father. But if I was...I would've choked that fat fucker and dragged him out of the stadium on my way to jail.

You don't do that. This is college football.

Again, wins and losses are just that. And I don't think you fire a coach that's not in a scandal in the middle of the season.

But that's insane.

How can he look any parent in the eye and be the father figure for their son? How can he recruit from this point forward after that?

You have to care for the well-being of your players. The guys he says he loves so much.

What if Shane was concussed and he put him back in the game to take that snap?

But even before then...he was limping and he couldn't move. Why was he in the game?

My respect for Devin Gardner just grew leaps and bounds.  Who knows how much he has been hurting.  Our HC is hell bent on having his QBs killed on the field.
