| 1 week 3 days ago | Riverbank Run 25K |
Good luck, I'm doing the 25k... and I'm in the Best Shape of My Life (just like all those major leaguers.. lol) Seriously, have fun it'll be a blast.. no rain and no wind!

FTW!! That was great. I'm guessing if we like it, Orange fans and Alum (with good taste) love it! (I really loved the I haven't felt my toes since August of my Freshman year!) |
| 5 weeks 5 days ago | I sadly disagree |
Sadly, the way any team beats Michigan is to turn the game into a grab fest. Michigan is not coached in that style and as pointed out by Gottlieb, Louisville fouled on every shot. There is no way that an official is going to call that, and that style of play is very difficult for Michigan to respond to. |

It's a Miracle! |
| 6 weeks 12 hours ago | You all are more evolved than I am. |
Perhaps I'm a bit older.. been a fan longer than some, and a bit younger, less mature than others. Perhaps it's my make-up. If Michigan had lost by 25 I would have felt fine with the game. We would have been outclassed. But in losing by 6 measly points when there were so many places that it would've/could've been turned it hurts too much. Perhaps I'll remember this run fondly at some point, it's hard for me to know. My first experience was the run in 89 as a Freshman at Michigan. But before that were all the games with Joubert and friends in the mid-80's with the great TV coverage that we actually had back then. Then the runs in 92 and 93 which were fun at the time, but then devolved into pain. So much pain I would bring up the question to my friends. "Knowing that the win in 1989 directly led to the hiring of Steve Fisher, which at least indirectly led to the scandal, would you give up 1989?" Seriously, only now after seeing the program come back can I say, "Nah, 1989 was worth it.... Mostly." I guess what I'm trying to say is that last night hurts way to much to me. Don't mistake my thought, I'm not saying that the team let me down, far from it. Their dedication and energy and joie de vivre is amazing. What hurts is what could have been. I mourn for them and feel badly for them. I feel for Nik and his emotion. I feel for the looks of agony on Trey's face as he got pummled over and over again. I feel for Levert stepping out of bounds having been pushed by Trey as a Louisville player landed on his back. I was sharing this with my 10 year old. It's been 20 years since Michigan "appeared" in a final 4 and 24 since they appeared in one that still counts. I honestly feel that's probably not to far off. (Maybe it's the cynic in me) So I won't get ot share this one with my 11 year old or 12 year old son.. I might get to share it with a 30 year old, while I'm 60 something. It won't be even close. So I mourn for myself as well. Selfishly I'm sure, but there it is. Finally I mourn just a bit for the gong show that is the NCAA. They could and should be so much more, but they aren't. So I mourn for my own stupidity in being drawn in. I wish I could have kept a distance, I wish I could have just thought logically and realized that there will be that team that makes the adjustment and beats/pounds/hacks and grabs the Woverines who are a finese team in a group of WWE Wrestlers that Jim Nantz, et al, call tough ball players. Congrats to Louisville, they were that team. I don't know if this means anything, but if nothing else it's 5 minutes of free therapy. Thanks Brian. |
| 6 weeks 16 hours ago | Perhaps |
What was worse was the solid cross check by Dieng on Spike that was considered a screen. Heck I thought we learned from the Nix foul at the end of the season that the flagrant -1 foul was called when the fouler outweiged the foulee by 100 pounds. We can't even count on that I guess. |
| 6 weeks 16 hours ago | The worst part is... |
That we've become so used to the Big Ten/NCAA thugish style play we accept it just like the officials did. If they had whistled the Cardinals for everything the game would have taken more than 2.5 hours. They didn't so once again Michigan struggled with the physicality. When you can't hang with a team start beating them up. Great adjustment by the Cardinals honestly. Play what's given you. Burke is gone, and frankly I don't blame him. Why not get paid to absorb this kind of punishment. I think Hardaway is gone as well. His "potential" isn't going to be any higher. (Since much of the draft is based on potential seemingly.) I think they should just go all James Caan and play the game with out rules. It might be fairer that way. Blah... enough of this crap back to work. Screw the tournament and screw the NCAA gong show. Thanks team, you gave your all and that's all we could ask for. |
| 6 weeks 5 days ago | I was in school |
I was in school for the last official one as well as both of the redacted appearances. I was a freshman in 1988-89. Is there any better time to expeience this than as a Freshman? I watched the championship game in Frank and Curtis' room on 2nd Hamilton (Home of the Human Pile, don't ask) in Bursley. Then the next day I went out and bought my gear and was part of the quickly assembled band to welcome the team back to Crisler. (As the Basketball band was on the plane and we wanted to welcome the team back as soon as the team arrived at Crisler) For 92 and 93 I was in year 4 and 5 of the education and living in the Bait's houses. I understood that Webber wasn't coming back after the 93 game. It was fun to watch that team, but you knew that it was different, they had changed the game. I didn't know that would be it at the time. 3 final 4's in 5 years can make you a bit jaded. Of course I didn't know that Michigan was on it's way into a pit of despair. Now I'm 42 with a son who is watching the games with me. I made it to a game earlier this season and was blown away by the arena. (So much better than when I was there). Anything that the team gets this weekend will be gravy for me after the last 20 years. I watch this team and am proud that they are representatives of Michigan. I love their work ethic, their attitudes and the coaching staff. This has been a fun run and I believe that there will be more. I believe in Coach Beilein.

| 12 weeks 4 days ago | Plans |
1. Performing in the Kalamazoo Concert Band concert Saturday. (mgobandgeek). Running, working with my son on his try-out for his elementary school musical, and watching MBB against Illinois. 2. Nope not a backpacker. Running is my thing. Getting ready for the 5/3 25k in May and several 5k's this spring. 3. I've never met another Mgoblogger. 4. Well as a runner I like to save my calories for other stuff like Guiness and fish and chips, so I don't do much on the ol' Grill Cheese Front. Have a great weekend everybody! |
| 12 weeks 4 days ago | Where does Tom Crean fit there? |
Is Tom like 1a? Especially after the rather douchy, "Oh where does winning fit into Player of the Week voting?" Man he comes across like every parent who's whined there kid didn't receive student of the week...

I'm thinking: He's Like Denard, except big! or perhaps he's like Will Campbell except fast! |
| 23 weeks 4 days ago | Disappointed with the Cancellation of the BHBH race |
I'm more disappointed than Brian since I am a runner that started about 3 years ago. I wasn't able to be involved in the race due to scheduling issues but had pretty much set my mind to do it this year. I didn't think I had to worry since it was such a success. However it appears that Brandon is really going to focus on U of M run things. Hopefully he sees that running a race that finishes in the Big House is a good idea. Also hopefully he finds some people to jump in a cold tub in Feb at the Big House. That really doesn't sound fun. |

So I look at the link Brian puts in and the following item is near the top: Northwestern vs Michigan Alltime Series Capsule: Okay... I'm only a Michigan grad, but I look at the trend sentence and I wonder; when is 4/15 more than "one-third"? Perhaps I'm being overly critical, but what? |
| 29 weeks 6 days ago | Also did it in 89 I believe |
I remember rushing the field about that time after clinching the trip to the Rose Bowl. Ran into an old friend of mine who has switched from U of M to the Coast Guard Academy. (Which is why I remember it so well) |

| 33 weeks 4 days ago | For the season |
Gotta go with Hofbräu Oktoberfestbier. I've always enjoyed that one, and it is Oktoberfest Season!
|
| 33 weeks 4 days ago | Great Wife Day |
1. Get up, drink coffee 2. Get in a 8-10 mile run 3. Have breakfast 4. Go to Oktoberfest, (since I'm performing, yes I'm wearing Lederhosen, but hey I get beer, good beer generally) Wife and son come with me. 5. After 4 hours of playing my trumpet, attempt to pull the lipe of of the lead pipe, change someplace and then probably grab a bite to eat. 6. Go home hang with the family and watch some of the late games. 7. Since I don't have a rooting interest in any of them, sleep easily and well. |
| 33 weeks 4 days ago | Nope, Still have to sit out |
Cuz his bell would've have been run(g).... Thanks everybody, you can catch me again at 2, 5 and 9! (sorry couldn't resist) |
| 35 weeks 5 days ago | 1. Number of Players in |
1. Number of Players in Rehab: How does the number of players in rehab after their playing days tie directly to players in trouble? 2. Kicking off Players who took money: Okay, but if they hadn't lied to him about it, wouldn't they have had to be kicked off due to NCAA rules, or at least part of the NCAA's rather nebulous punishment policy. If the NCAA handled punishments for criminal activities (more regularly that is) then I believe this would be a valid point. 3. AFAWK, Clark didn't lie. AFASWK, Clark did steal a laptop. He was caught. The case has been adjudicated. That's what we know. Hoke doesn't owe us more, but I don't owe him the benefit of the doubt that his decision is correct either. (And I'm sure he doesn't care, yet if his caring was what was necessary for posting on Mgoblog, I'm guessing Brian would be working as an engineer someplace) 4. I don't know if Harbaugh was steered out of being a history major or not. We don't have two people agreeing to it, only one as far as I know. In my story, all parties agreed that it happend, from Bo, to Harbaugh, to the police. Therefore I think it's fairly safe to assume it happened. 5. You are right. (re other schools) That is a poor reason to offer for a different punishment. I was wrong. (That doesn't happen often does it) My question at the end of this is this: Do you feel proud of how Brady Hoke has handled this? I don't. Simple as that. That and a 1.06 will get you a pop at McD's. However I want to be proud of the U of M coaches' actions at all times. I'm not stupid enough to believe that the players will be perfect. They weren't perfect back then, and maybe Bo was able to hush things up. Honestly, you're right, I have no proof one way or the other. But in today's world we have proof. In the end, I want the men and women who wear the uniform of my school to have earned the honor to wear it. If they haven't I'd rather not have them wearing that uniform. |
| 35 weeks 5 days ago | Agree with the State's Actions |
I agree with you that the youthful perpetrators act is right. Of course I don't think many of us who feel that the suspension should be longer disagree with you. We just want and expect that the young man would suffer a longer suspension from the team. There are two huge differences there. He's still a member of the team, he's just not an active member. I don't think the should be kicked out of school. He should still have his scholarship, still be able to workout, he just shouldn't be dressing for the game. That's simple. The difference is that being a member of the team is an honor. One shouldn't keep honors when one behaves dishonorably. Does anyone believe that Clark behaved honorably. Disregard his age. 17 is old enough to know better. You even admit you are shamed by your actions. You've become a better person. Does Clark need to be a playing member of the team to be a better person. If that's the case what happens in 4 years? Perhaps he would do better to learn now what thousands of prior college football players have learned, and that's how to be that better person while your just a normal member of society. I agree it's Hoke's decision. Just because it's someone's decision, doesn't mean it's the right decision, or right for me, or even able to be argued as being ethically correct. Ethics is often defined as the collective morals. I'm not sure I belong to the collective that thinks that the honor of playing college football or being part of any extracurricular activity is nearly automatically granted. |
| 35 weeks 5 days ago | I will deal with it |
I have dealt with it. Thanks for the addition to the posting. You're right, we don't know any facts. That is because Ft. Schembechler has been re-instated at least as it relates to dealing with the media. Of course some of that could be accepted in the past because you knew, (see Harbaugh story above) that there would be zero tolerance for this kind of activity. Let me ask those of you old enough to remember when Bo was coach; Do you think he would have put up with this. But perhaps I'm just old and out of touch. So be it. I've dealt with it. While I'm a fan and still proclaim it, I'll be a little quieter now, and when Dantonio or Meyer do something I find a bit questionable ethically I'll just keep the ol' mouth closed and let it go, because I'm sure they're closer to the situation and know how to keep the young men closer to them so they can have a postive effect on the young men. Neg away boys. That's how you deal with it. |
| 35 weeks 6 days ago | I'm Reminded of Bo's Handling of Situations like this |
I remember that Jim Harbaugh was kicked off of the team for showing up on a police report for a party. He was let back on the team after he proved that he was not doing anything wrong and got the AA police to agree to that. (IIRC) I think my problem is that the punishment seems so minimal. It's an honor to play football for Michigan. How many of us on this board would give up a lot if we had the talent to do that and the opportunity. (I didn't have a scintilla of the former, so the latter never came up either.) It may be up to Hoke, but wouldn't a better message be sent by a more stringent suspension? I don't mean to cut the young man at the knees, but I do think something stronger than one game should be done. I guess that makes me a hard hearted person, but I'd rather think it would teach the young man a better lesson if he lost more than one game for doing something like this. |
| 36 weeks 3 days ago | I've not found that |
There have been a few times with issues, but the equipment is better than cable. I paid for my own hard drive and for a one time fee of $40 I have DVR! Tied to the wonderful guide on the Dish box. Color me happy (Maize and blue!) |

Brian, one thing it's not next Friday, it's Friday Sept 21. (No biggie, if someone clicks the link all the correct details are there) |
| 42 weeks 1 day ago | Yeah what he said |
Sitting there watching Casey Wheldon have all day to peruse the field, finish home work and then find one of several open receivers deep down the field made for an unhappy day. Only 2 games worse that I attended... The Miami (YTM) game of 1988, (First football game at the Big House) and the MSU game of 1990. (I know they were both close but the nut punch feeling of both losses still hurts today. |
| 44 weeks 1 day ago | Question |
I live near Hastings, MI and am looking forward to cheering the team as they go through tomorrow. However their projected route takes them through some nasty construction (the kind were the teams could get damaged perhaps) I'm a little worried about the teams, but I'm assuming they know? Go Blue! |
| 1 year 4 days ago | Not if they add in a neutral site game. |
Sorry nothing is impossible. Especially for people involved in setting up playoffs (See the logic in the Big 10 saying that home playoff games aren't needed in the possible Football Playoff) |

After 9/11, Mr. Sugar was stopped by security and asked to give up his cigar cutter. His reply was classic, "What are you afraid I'm going to circumcise a midget?!!!" Great line and classic Bert Sugar. RIP Mr. Sugar. |
